Decent shave and haircut, but pricey ($70) for what it is. I know I'm from out of town and not a regular, but there was really no attempt at making conversation. Very different than the barbershop experience I was used to from living in Boston (Razors there gives you better cuts and service for $30). It's even more pricey than the salon stylist I go to in Los Angeles. However, I was in a bind, and there was no wait for a walk-in, so that was definitely a plus. I get my haircut there every few weeks (over 2 years now.) Most customers are regulars. Some regulars don't even live in Chicago, making a point of working a stop into their business trip and telling Peter "see you in a few months!" Most customers are professionals. Standards are high across the team. I normally go to Cesar, who works Saturday/Sunday. He has decades of experience and knows how to cheer me up with a magic trick or story. I never have to remind him of my style; he just knows. He can get the same cut for me using scissors, clippers, and even using a razor. The atmosphere is always low key, which is great after a long week of work. If I want to chat, they'll keep me entertained with stories of local folks or pictures of family. If I'm tired, I fall asleep in the chair and wake up to a great haircut. Haircut is flat price (even when I'm long overdo,) and Cesar keeps working at it until it's perfect. tl;dr BEST. BARBERSHOP. EVER. With the craziness of the Winter holidays, I ran out of time to get a touch-up done for New Years. Next thing I know, I'm flying from Philly to party with friends in Chicago. Mr. Barber to the rescue. Called and they were able to fit me into their already packed schedule. Peter greeted me and offered some wine while Cesar was finishing up his last client. Peter couldn't be more warm and jovial. He has a wink unlike anyone else I've ever met...instantly it was as if we've been friends since childhood. Yes, I will trust this guy holding a razor to my neck, and by extension I will trust Cesar. Now, I'm kicking myself for writing this review nearly two months later because the details aren't as clear as they were just then (maybe wine played a factor too) but what I do know for sure is THIS WAS THE BEST BARBERSHOP EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. Cesar took his time both with the shave making sure not a single place was overlooked. Especially the spots where other barbers often cut corners. He went over the troublesome spot multiple times in different directions to ensure it was as smooth as possible. I lost count of how many heated towels were used, but put a gun to my head I want to say it was twelve. The haircut was just as precise, with Cesar asking what I normally get, and making sure he understood what I wanted. Couldn't be any happier with the results. One it was all over Peter invited me to stay a bit and have another glass of wine. It was great enjoying the company of Peter and Cesar, and I cannot wait to visit them again the next time life takes me to Chicago. read more

Probably the best barbershop in Chicago. Peter will not only give you an amazing haircut, he'll offer you a cup of coffee and conversation as well. As a Detroit Red Wings fan this is, THE place to get a haircut. Peter will cut your hair, tell you stories and show you pictures of his times hanging out with the Wings and the Russian 5. I am just in from Los Angeles for the weekend and needed to get cleaned up for a business meeting the next day. Walked in on a Sunday early afternoon. No wait (but I'd call first to check). It is hard to capture in words the level of expertise and skill Peter brings to the table. From the conversation and service I suspected he used to be a surgeon, scientist, or a nuclear physicist in his past life. Or perhaps a pro-hockey player. Anyway, you won't find a better haircut, bear-trim, eyebrow trim anywhere, I am certain. Peter is no BS. Reasonable price. Warm cream neck shave, straight razor, old-school master. If you are in the right frame of mind, you will leave feeling like you just went to see the man on the mountain. And as he says, "he will make you handsome". I suppose he can't work miracles if you're ready for the scrap heap, but if you want your best hope, Peter's your man.
