I honestly didn't know what to expect. I went with a couple people and we each got a different pizza and tried each other's. All were good solid unique pizzas. The difference maker though is the rosemary focaccia bread appetizer. It's quite simply the best bread I've ever had and it's not even close! It's so soft and fluffy and moist with the perfect amount of rosemary and salt added on top. I'd go just for this reason alone. The ambiance of this place is great. It has very high ceilings and a pair of cool 30 foot tall doors at one end that makes the place feel like a church. It feels like it was a church that was gutted and recreated in this fashion, but they created it with this simple wide open atmosphere. I highly recommend Mozza Pi for anybody looking for a good lunch in Louisville. read more

If you read my other posts, I score 90% on the food. Had I done that, this may have only been a 2-star. We ordered; Thai pizza, Sweet Onion Marmalade pizza, focaccia (snack/appetizer), a side of giardiniera, and a side of olive oil. So, I'll start with the positive. The blue cheese and onion marmalade used on the pizza were good quality. The chicken on the Thai pizza was seasoned well, and the giardiniera was tasty. The pizzas as a whole medley of tastes were simply disappointing. On the Sweet Onion Marmalade, there just was not enough blue cheese or onion marmalade. The andouille sausage was not flavorful, the bourbon cherries were more for "bourbon country" novelty. The cherries did not compliment the pizza as a whole, and I'm not actually sure that there was any rosemary on the pizza. The Thai pizza was "fine." The bites of seasoned meat were nice, but again, as a pizza, there was something missing. I'd say it was "ok," which is not what I'm looking for when I go out to eat. The focaccia was VERY plain. It was good that we ordered the side of olive oil (which had a nice flavor, almost a hint of tomato) because the focaccia by itself would have been a waste. As for the atmosphere, it was very neat; large clock, large chair, a ton of wood features, had a loft, very unique (definitely a plus). Now, there was not a posted menu or any menus to view while in a long lunch-crowd line. Therefore, you hold the line up even longer when it is your time to order because you have to look at the menu at the register. I'm risking my New Haven badge by claiming this on the internet, but: MozzaPi's sweet onion marmalade pizza is the best pizza I've ever had. For what it's worth, my husband disagrees. For him, it's tied for first place with his favorite New Haven pie. Still a huge compliment and not something I ever expected from a pizza place in Kentucky. My first visit was a solo lunch date on my birthday and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I sat outside in MozzaPi's gorgeous garden overlooking their koi pond and treated myself to a pizza while I read my awesome Kindle freebie of the month book (Trespassing by Randi Breeds). The atmosphere and the food were complete perfection and I kept sighing and smiling from sheer happiness. (Until I realized it was time to head back to work and then I was sad.) It was so awesome that I dragged my husband back with me days later to get his input. Luckily he was just as smitten as I was. MozzaPi mills their own flour (check out their adorably punny milling company - LouisMill) and makes everything from scratch. While I've only tried their pizza so far, I'm dying to go back for some of their gorgeous pastries and house roasted coffee. I'm so thrilled to have found this gorgeous hidden gem just minutes from my office and so thankful to have FINALLY found good pizza in this state. I can't say enough great things about this place. I was traveling through Louisville and made a point to stop here based on a recommendation from a friend. The pizza was fantastic, but the service even out shinned that. The owner greeted me and took my order. I inquired about the bread I saw being made in the back and he explained and then showed me they were having a week long class on bread making using their wood fired oven. When my pizza was ready he shared a loaf of focaccia w/ rosemary that is honestly the best I've ever had, period. He also shared with me some everything bagels they had made. Now I limit myself on bread normally, but today I gave myself a pass since everything was so delicious. Make a point to stop in, have a beer and some pizza or one of their many other offerings. What kind of lunatic puts Coconut Curry chicken with cashews and cilantro on a pizza?! And then bourbon cherries & rosemary on another? Weirdo. And they were amazing, best 2 pizzas I think I've ever had. The Thai pizza was the most unique pizza I've ever tried, for sure, and it was perfect. I had seen a few reviews so I looked them up and saw a unique story of ingredients and wanted to give them a try. So glad I did. The pizzas are juuust big enough for an individual with an appetite, but could likely be shared. My wife and I ordered 2 pizzas and left with a few pieces in a box and full bellies. I'm the guy that doesn't usually eat the crust of pizza because I view the crust as simply a means of transportation for the toppings to get to my mouth. But the crust at Mozza Pi is really what brings it all together. You can tell that a ton of care went into 'balancing' flavors with textures and all the fancy stuff that food geniuses know how to do and describe. In my best technical terms, it was 'wicked good.' The setting is beautiful, we spent our lunch looking around at all the details of the building, with just a hint of the smell of the wood-burning oven, which itself is a piece of art. My wife and I are in love with this place, in its unassuming location around the corner from us. Every staff member we've met so far has been very helpful, they seem to enjoy what they do and they clearly aren't new at hearing people rave about their food. The menu is simple and straight-forward, easy to order quickly. A more efficient way of getting water would be welcome as you may wait behind a few people 'in line' to refill water cups, seriously that's the only thing I can find that isn't perfect. I had reserved feelings about this place. Thought it would be a little pretentious given the area. This place is full on legit!!! I ordered take out for Friday evening. They were a bit backed up, but were super nice about everything and the food was utterly fantastic! Great texture, flavor, and one of the best pizzas I've had in an absolute long time. Don't screw around, order the damn cookies too. You will not regret it. They were freaking awesome! This is my new favorite and we will definitely be back. Two good friends of mine assured me that there's finally a contender against Blue Dog in Louisville. I was a little confused if a pizza place is fully comparable with a bakery (though I understand that pizza is baking AND that Blue Dog and Red Hog offer pizza) but upon arriving realized that aside from some delicious pizza, Mozza Pi has a lot of other things going on. ( For started they have a CSB (Community Support Bakery), they grind and sell their own grits, cookie mix, and other mill related products, they also have great muffins, scones, and cookies- all whole grain and made by house milled grains. The owner built the gorgeous barn-like wonderland the restaurant calls home. While I'm still a Blue Dog fan, I certainly believe this town is big enough for two stellar projects. I don't really want to go into too many details about the food. Our tastes all vary--but I will say the pizza crusts were perfectly chewy and stretchy with a slight tang and lovely flavor. The ingredients in everything are thoughtfully selected and executed with care. Out of everything we sampled (three pizzas, two cookies, two breakfast sandwiches, a side salad, a muffin, and a scone) I would say the breakfast sandwich with burrata was the weakest as I found it a little bland. However, one of my mates really raved about it-- so the most important thing to me is that it's clear that the work done here is intentional and careful and sooo delicious. I freaked about the cookies and perfectly smoked grits so much I purchased mixes to take home. Aside from the food, this simple but gorgeous space just feels so good. Sun shines through the windows and the high ceilings are made less daunting by large novelty chairs and a fantasy grandfather clock. The family runs the place and feeling in the air is just good. COVID Carry-Out Edition We placed an online order for a prescribed time. Drove out to MozzaPi and once parked called inside. We were told that they would cook our order; 3 pizza's, a sausage, a pepperoni and a cheese with a chocolate chip cookie. About 7 minutes later a piping hot order was out to the car and we were on our way. Surprised that worker was not donned in any protective gear. We drove over to Tom Sawyer park and had a picnic lunch on a beautiful sunny Sunday. MozzaPi makes our pizza snob list as a top 3, eat-in, carry-out or whatever else way of getting it. Before the pandemic we ate here regularly- their dining room is gorgeous, however it is currently closed for indoor dining. They have a nice picnic area set up or outdoor dining though with a a walk up window for ordering and food pickup. They are very clean and conscientious about sanitizing. Their pizzas are delicious, the pestolini is my favorite and my husband loves their famous pizza as well as the caramelized onion pizza. They have a rosemary focaccia bread which is like a little pillow of heavenly goodness. They also offer a corn cookie which is amazing and my husband loves their chocolate chip option as well. My family gave my partner and I a gift card to this little unsuspecting gem a few weeks ago. We like to make our own pizza and have been searching for our favorite pizza spot, and I think we may have found it! A cozy place for a casual, but delicious bite. But we quickly found a table and ordered a pizza brunch. Our food showed up in just a few minutes. Holy pizza crust! It tastes more like a focaccia bun than a floppy piece of nondescript bread. I thought about it a lot and discussed how good it was with my husband over that two year period. It was the most delicious pizza I had ever had -- and very different from anything I had ever had. I have always been told that pizza is about the crust and never about the toppings, I never believed that until now. Pizza, from here on out, is something different too me. As it is something I would enjoy while watching a game, this place makes me believe that pizza could be a nice night out. I was greeted by this big, beautiful, brick building. my first thought when I pulled in was, am I even in the right place? This doesn't seem like a pizza spot. but when I walked up to the doors and walked in, I could smell the pizza, the crust, baking in the giant over sitting in the middle of the open kitchen. Not to mention everyone was dressed so casually and lose, super comforting and inviting. As I got to the counter, I found a menu and quickly glanced over it, I love how it was so short and simple. Walking to the register and passing a couple of sweets of course made me give in, but I asked the nice lady that was taking my order what she liked, she suggested a lovely choice the I thought matched great with the side salad and corn cookie I chose on my way up. But after I ordered I noticed that severed brews! So, I got one of the local IPA's I recognized right off the bat. So now with a pizza on the way a beer in one hand and a cookie in the other I start searching for a seat, and with it being a place you seat yourself that had a couple of inviting couches I was stoked to have such a comfortable spot since I came alone. Once I got seated, I took a minute to notice the place from the inside, and somethings that truly stood out to me were the lights. They hung about the registers, big, artistic, attention grabbing lights. on the other side of the room was this massive clock, standing close to the ceiling, towering higher than anything else. Now I can not forget the stuff hanging on the wall, now I won't give away all the good parts because you have to go see them yourself. But as soon as I got situated and looked around for a moment my salad was out and headed my way. And not too far behind it was the pie (honestly came out in great amount of time for how busy they were). Now going into the food. Its hard to complain here, the salad was a great size for being a side, the taste was fantastic, with every bite I just wanted more and more of the fresh cheese and the dressing drizzled over the top. I can honestly say that I was sad that salad was gone when I finished it, then the one thing that could have made me happier was sitting Infront of me the pizza was so visually pleasing, great personal size, with no settled grease sitting on the top. Now I was concerned at first, spinach and ricotta might not have been my first choice, but I have been wrong before and I was wrong this time. The crust was beautiful, the bottom was cooked just like the top, perfectly browned. Much like its partner, the salad, this pie got better with each slice, each time I was done I wanted more and when I was done, I wanted another. It never folded or flopped over it stayed crispy and warm the whole time I was eating. Finally, we have dessert, this corn cookie, something I have never had or even heard of to me fair. What a great change of pace to the traditional cookie, it was sweet but not too sweet, and it had such a nice texture, holding itself together until you bite then it becomes perfectly chewy and soft. I'm sure you can already guess but when I finished it, I wanted another. Okay, so here comes the hard part. If there was anything, I could complain about it would be the ineffective use of space. From the outside the place looks massive, so I of course imagined a larger dining area, but the tables were very close to each other and I could since people being a tad too close. The bathrooms also seemed a little cramped, although they had a urinal and a toilet, it seemed like they could have done a little better with the space that they have and create a more comfortable dining area for guests. Now these really are not complaints more just things I could help but notice. The service was good but looked like the girls working the register and serving the food and cleaning and grabbing this and that from here and there seemed like they had quite the responsibility to uphold. Lastly, I loved the couch, it was such a good touch to the whole place, but the coffee table they with it had a beautiful rock display on it, but it was so big that it was hard to find the room to set all my food down with me. If they downsized that piece where that didn't feel so clustered, that would be something I think would be helpful too more people than they realize. The pizza crust was perfect-not too thin and perfectly charred. The toppings worked so well together and had a little kick. All I have to say is WOW! I have heard so many wonderful things about MozzaPi and I wanted to check it out. When I arrived I didn't realize they were closed. I should have checked their hours of operation but I didn't. I noticed on the door that they close at two on Saturday's. My family and I arrived at 2:10 so when we walked in and noticed people still in there I figured they may have extended their hours. I spoke with the manager Kevin and he told me that they were indeed closed but he said they could put in a few pizzas for us. I thought that was super nice that he was willing to stay open to serve us. He went over the menu with me but I decided to choose something simple like a cheese pizza. We received our pizza in like 10 min. And it was sooo good! My kids liked it and they are very picky about their pizza. When I went to pay, he was preparing a bag of treats for us to take to go. He said they prepare their cookies and sweets daily and wanted to give us something to try. Again... great customer service! I will definitely go back to try more menu items. An architecturally magnificent hidden gem in anchorage. The interior decor and vaulted ceiling was very cool, and the cashier/ barista was very friendly, especially for 7am. I Dropped by one morning on my way to work and grabbed a delicious bacon cheddar chive scone and a coffee. The scone was like none I have ever had. Scones can tend to be dry, crumbly, and bland, but not this one. It was perfectly crisp on the exterior with a buttery richness, moist and flavorful inside. The bacon flavor was just right and not too overpowering of the chive accent. I've yet to try their weekend brunch but this was definitely a nice change of scenery from the typical donut, bagel, or breakfast sandwich. read more

My office is down the street on LaGrange Road. I happened to pass by MozzaPi during lunch time and noticed the crowd. There is no sign at the restaurant, if not the crowd, I wouldn't notice it at all. I ended up going there with my group of 10 for Sunday brunch. We were worry about getting too crowded for Sunday brunch. But since it's raining, the restaurant wasn't as busy as expected. Once you walk in, it's like walking into the story book of Alice in the Wonderland. The over-sized chairs, light bulbs and decor were amazing. The staff were so friendly. We ordered all of their pizza to share. My favorite is Thai Pizza, which is not like typical pizza. The bean sprouts gives some extra crunchiness to the pizza. However, you have to eat it quick, or the bottom of the pizza will get soggy from the sauce (tastes like fish sauce). We also ordered the Meatball Sub. The Ciabatta was so soft inside, but crispy outside. They offered bread baking class, which is quite pricey. But if you want to make some good bread, this is the right place. They also offer CSB (Community Supported Bakery), which you can pick up a loaf of different style artisan bread each week. We will definitely go back for their pastry and pizza. read more
