This is a boutique style hotel by a main line hotel (Marriott) and from first glance, they seemed to have hit their target market nicely. This is clearly aimed at millennials and caters to how they live and interact. First, the check in is at a bar, and they offer you a free house drink when you arrive. The lobby has free games, pool, pinball etc and lots of communal areas. The decor is quite neat and the elevator is set up to take selfies- interesting. The rooms items are very comfortable and tastefully decorated. There is an actual working guitar and record player in the room. My room has vinyl from Miles Davis and James Brown, which is really neat. As a business traveler, I look for a couple of things: comfortable bed, work space, ironing board and hangars. The bed is great, the room is clean and a good work space. They have removed the ironing board and made a communal ironing room- not for my taste. There isn't a closet or dresser, instead you are given pegs on a wall with a couple of hangars. Lastly, they use community soap, meaning one big bottle that stays between stays versus mini bottles. I person alt hate this in the shower unless I know they have been sanitized- and these do not show that. The room doesn't have a clock and the TV has about 5 channels, but it appears you can stream to the TV from your device. The lighting is nice and adequate and the bathroom is above expectations. Trendy and fun place to stay near Arizona State University. This boutique hotel by Marriott is super cute and located in a prime location to the University. Parking is an up charge per night and the lot was full on Friday and Saturday night. We were told to park in the CVS parking lot which shares a lot with Moxy. Not an issue given the rest of campus requires parking permits and visitor parking is usually off the beaten path of where you are headed. The staff is unbelievable! We stayed during the pandemic and lots of modifications were enforced to keep everyone safe. Everything we asked for we were given...with a smile. The staff truly makes you feel important and a priority. I gave this hotel a 5star for that very reason. The room is super chic and beds were comfortable. They had full bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the showers. Nothing different than any other hotel but the people make the experience all the better. This hotel has lots of activities to keep you entertained inside and outside. An outdoor pool, arcade games, a Pool and Foosball table, corn hole, ping pong to giant jengas. This was literally the worst experience I have ever had while traveling. I was with my two young children, and had a queen bed with a pull out sofa. I called the front desk to request additional bedding for the pullout, as it was just a bare mattress. I put the kids to sleep on the bed, and waited. After an hour, I called down again. I tried sleeping at the foot of the bed, but there wasn't enough room. I tried to sleep on the bare mattress on the pullout sofa (yuck), using a towel as a blanket. Finally, around 12:30 AM, four hours later, someone delivered bedding. All they brought was a sheet. I was too tired and delirious and angry to put any thoughts together and ask for a blanket and a pillow. I don't understand how this kind of service is possible. I spoke with several different people. I was never rude to the staff, but did politely let them know I had been waiting for hours. read more

Bad reviews are from grumpy old people that need all kinds of drawers and closet space and want the sheets changed multiple times for their stay. Just enjoy the minimalist design, the fun lobby/bar/check in desk and the video games. Beat that all the Karens and Randys stay away from this place so we can enjoy it without them. Was this hotel perfect? NO! Did I love this hotel anyway? YES! Would I stay here again? ABSOLUTELY! If you are looking for a traditional hotel room and cannot fathom anything other than said standard hotel room, you may want to move on to a different hotel... Here's what's different: - The rooms - No carpeting but I loved this as it felt super clean to me. - No closet or drawers, there are pegs on the wall with some hangers. I personally never use the closet or drawers in hotels (unless, like on this trip, I have to hang up a dress or something else "special") - No individual toiletries which, again, I love because I hate the waste and the temptation for me to take stuff I'll never use at home. Also, I loved the liquid hand soap. The one thing I hate about hotels is washing my hands with bar soap - No clocks in the room but let's be serious for a second... who doesn't use their phone as their alarm nowadays? And I'm sure if you really needed one, they could provide one for you. You'd be surprised as to what you can get by just asking - Checking in is at the bar. But guess what? You'll get a free cocktail (that was actually quite tasty) - Large lobby/bar/games area. There's ample seating and plenty of games to choose from. Was so excited to visit my little sister for her 21st birthday, was recommended the moxy by friends. Unfortunately the staff made us extremely uncomfortable. Absolutely no greeting when we sat at the bar to get dinner. Once we finally ordered, bartender was silent when she gave us our food and when we ask for anything extra she didn't respond just walked off to go get what we asked for. We tried to keep our spirits up but when we came back after our first night out we realized pull out bed didn't have any sheets or blankets on the mattress .when we called down to let the front know , we were told that they will not get us linens because it's a self service hotel that there should be some in the stash room. After finding no sheets in there we called back to again ask. Then I was told that we were calling way to late at night for something like this and no one was on staff to help. I explained how ridiculous that was, Since it's not my fault the room wasn't prepared properly. Then I was threatened by the front desk to have the cops called on me and hung up on. ( I swear this is a real story lol ) shorty after we got a call back with an apology and sheets we waiting in the lobby for us. After an eventful night I checked out the balcony of our room. Nice view of the pool however the balcony was covered in bird poop. I'll leave pictures below. So gross. The manager was notified the next day and she was very sweet and listened to our concerns however nothing was done to accommodate us for the treatment the night before ,or to get rid of the poop of our balcony. all in all I spent about $800 for three nights. Paid 618.00 for 2 nights.. 1st we get there to see it's 12.00 a day to park, get to our room that we asked for a fridge on 3 different conversions and NEVER GOT...Get in after flying all day ready for bed, no fridge, went to shower that clearly wasn't clean with hair on the shower wall and floor. IN FRONT OF TOILET WAS STILL SPOTS FROM URINE IN FRONT OF OUR TOILET so it was clear no one had cleaned it..Then after climbing in bed found an earing THAT WAS NO MINE in the bed and that tells me sheets were not changed.. Possibly the worst place I've ever stayed at. Upon checking in I was given a hard time right off the bat because the front desk clerk, some tall blonde guy, hassled me about not having my credit card on hand. He was extremely rude and it seemed to be such a problem for him that I had to call to get the info for him and he made it very well known. Secondly, I had my service dog in with me and we had an extremely long flight and they decided to put us on the bottom floor, which means that every 30 minutes somebody was walking by my room, which was extremely unsettling for my dog and I. Not only did we not get any sleep that night because of the foot traffic right outside our door, but at some point around 1 AM I got up to use the restroom and found a MASSIVE cockroach in the crawling all over the shower. After I went to the front desk at 7 AM, I told him what happened and they suggested to get the room cleaned and sprayed with a pesticide I told them not to do that because I had an animal with me and I don't think that's safe for although the man assured me that "it's human and pet safe!" Sorry to burst your bubble I don't think that's gonna kill a cockroach then. I asked to switch rooms. I was extremely polite and very patient, I left at seven came back at 12 my room still had not been cleaned nor was there any mention from the front desk woman if I was getting moved or not. I asked the front desk woman she seemed to not care at all. Told me she'd get the cleaning people in right away, so I went outside took a nap by the pool. Woke up about 2 pm and my room still had not been cleaned. And the cockroach was still waddling around happily in the bathroom. I packed my things and left, they have since refused to give me my first night booking fee back. So now I have to post about this, all in all, I would never stay here regardless it's run by a bunch of college kids who have no idea what they're doing. Recently stayed for one night. The vibe is cool, the common areas are fun. The bathroom was gorgeous and was stocked with above average soap and conditioner for a hotel. The tv was great. Lighting was fun and funky. But oh my goodness the bed and pillows were horrible. I couldn't get comfortable for the life of me. Spent my entire night tossing and turning. About halfway through the night I chose to forego the pillows entirely and just slept flat on the mattress. Woke up with neck pain that lasted two days. I've never ever experienced a pillow so awful. Stayed at the MOXY for one night because we had an early morning flight and it was only $97 a night. I didn't expect much so I was pleasantly surprised by our overall experience! Perks: -Free parking -Free cocktail upon room check-in which is at the bar -Free video games in lobby (Galaga + Bubble Bobble for the win!) -Free wi-fi -24/7 food available for purchase at bar area -Right next door to CVS and food joints right across the street -Close walk or drive to lots of awesome eateries -Only 10 minutes from airport Possible cons depending on your expectations: -Rooms have no closet -No irons in room, but a communal ironing room on each floor -Feels like a college dorm You really can't beat the price and we were really stoked because our room was very clean and it had everything we needed! First impression was unfortunately bad...we made reservation for a 2 bed hotel room. Checked in and our room was a 1 bed with a pull out couch...the gentlemen was not very helpful in getting us the correct room. The pull out bed mattress was stained with what looked like pee stains or possibly vomit. Super uncomfortable! We ended up staying with that room for the 1st night. Next morning my husband goes to get help to switch our room and still the same person was not very helpful. They said we would get a call midday when it was ready. 5pm came around NO CALL. New check in person was at the counter and she was VERY HELPFUL! Right away apologized and helped us get a new room in minutes! New room was good but there was bird poop All over the patio so we could not enjoy it. For the price of the hotel I was expecting better service and CLEAN but it is what it is. We stayed for two nights at the MOXY. The hotel was clean and beds we're comfortable. The location was good for us. It had A mid modern feel totally geared for millennials or families. Lots of games set up for playing in lobby area. Rooms had no coffee pots, ice buckets , microwave or refrigerator and no dresser to put closes. You can get a bucket of ice at the bar for the room. I had medicine that needed to be chilled so we had to keep going down to bar for more ice as it melted quickly. The rooms have no closet just pegs across entire wall to hang clothes onto, four hangers were in room. Kids we're running the halls late at night and knocking on people's doors, but that wasn't hotels fault. read more

This is a cool hotel with a fun, young vibe to it. The lobby is connected to the bar and there's a lot of lounge areas to chill, drink, or just work on your computer. They also have entertainment for all ages: billiards, pinball machines, arcade games, etc. The room was very clean and modern. Though I would've liked a microwave or mini fridge in the room, everything else was superb. I slept so well during my stay. And the swimming pool outside is a definite plus. The staff are super nice and seem like fellow college students like myself! They called in a free uber for my travel to and from the Sky Harbor Airport! On my last day, I had accidentally left my wallet in the men's restroom near the lobby. I didn't realize it until I made it to the airport, but the staff quickly got an uber for me to come back, grab the wallet, then uber me back to make my flight! All complimentary! Living out of a suitcase isn't easy. I've had more than my share of "miss my bed" moments as a traveling professional. The Moxy immediately felt like home to me. In fact...it felt like what I would like my home to feel like. I missed the front desk because it's actually a bar. First thought, "WOW..." Ambiance, decor, VIBES. "Tee" at the front desk welcomed me as did happy hour, a charcuterie spread, pin ball machines and am instructed "sip and paint" class. Then there was my room!!! Dim lighting, a LOVESAC (just like the one I have at home) , ample outlet/usb options, and even a real acoustic guitar. It's clear the property is a bit older but subtle nuances to the up-fit makes it modern. I should have heeded my own advice, but the long term stay rate was decent and location perfect. This place used to be a Four Points by Sheraton, I assume a pretty run down at that; until someone decided to dress up this pig and make it a "hip" place. I was in and out during the week, otherwise I would have moved out of this crap hole! Again,as I stated earlier: still a Platinum member and still no respect here. Again I am not looking for royal treatment, but maybe you change the sheets ONCE while I stay here over a week? Yep, the housekeeping service is basically just making your bed, they don't change sheets until a new guest checks in (I hope). I tip, so maybe they are jaded by the typical kids that stay here and trash the rooms with no $ for the staff, nevertheless I still got crappy housekeeping. I won't beat this dead horse, but the hot water showers. dirty sheets and throw in the wild screaming in the lobby, loud hallways and the traffic noise: I will not stay here again if it was free! read more

Doing a road trip can be difficult with a dog and cat. We had finally arrived in Phoenix and had to stay the night in a hotel because we could not get the apartment keys till the next day. I called on Tuesday night to inquire about the pet fee. Instantly when I called I was out on hold for 5 minutes. When he returned I asked the price he said he did not know it. Said it was between 50 and 100 dollars. When I told him I needed to know he said he would have to ask his manager who is at home. He was very short and sounded frustrated and bothered. The MOXY Phoenix Tempe is a themed hotel that represents what middle-aged executives think Millennials want in a hotel. Overall, it was a nice place to stay despite some designed quirks. Most of the oddities were innocuous. The hotel was well decorated, clean, and modern, so I give it an easy four star rating. If the price was right, I'd stay here again, but probably would pick another Marriott property next time. So here are the oddities in bullet points: - When I arrived and entered the lobby, employees were playing pool. They greated me as a new guest and resumed their pool game. It seemed nice, but its fake when you're a paying guest; - You check in at a bar. You get a free cocktail, which I think is a win; - Checking in takes a long time. I don't like that, but the staff member had to explain how my room had a record player and guitar, but no ironing board. She also challenged me to try to beat her score on an arcade game in the corner. It's a nice welcome, but when I check in to a hotel after a long travel day less is more: I just want to get to my room; - As I walked to my room, an employee pushing a cleaning cart, was wearing ostentatiously enormous plastic sun glasses in the dark lit room. I thought this was over the top; - In the elevator, on the wall was a selfie board--for the elevator ride, mind you. It had all sorts of gag masks and props for selfies with the hash tag for the hotel. Very contrived; - At the end of the day, I went to the lobby bar to get a night cap. There were about 12 employees hanging out making forced conversation with the patrons. It's just too much. It wasn't the natural bar conversation that happens at a bar. So there are my thoughts on the strange, but luxurious stay I had at MOXY. The room was great, despite the lack of iron. Parking is free. Tempe is great. We stayed here for the weekend as a staycation for my birthday! We started at the bar and I met Melani, our bartender, she is the SWEETEST!!! She made me a drink called the "Moxy" I HIGHLY recommend it!!!! The room was beautiful, clean and comfy! Very modern and had almost a bohemian feel which I LOVE . The whole feel of the hotel was just so much fun. Great location with lots of things surrounding it so you don't have to stay in. I loved the pool and cabanas! Eh, be careful. Not a family spot. Walked in after a 7 hour drive only to be completely ignored by the tattoed front desk clerk who spent her time talking to a friend on the phone instead. Eventually a nice British gent showed up and helped us check in, thank god. After getting keys we were directed round to the back lot to load our bags in. While loading in we were accosted by a tweeker trying to get us to let him in the hotel (maybe to make a drug run, maybe just to party with friends inside). I first thought we were about to be robbed, though, so it all turned out ok. Sketchy as hell in that poorly lit back alley lot. In any case the rooms are basic but ok, think motel 6 decorated by your goth teenage daughter. Warehouse rave party vibe. Square toilets. Faux cast iron. Black lights. No traditional hotel amenities. After a long night of travel we missed our connection due to flight delays. American Airlines gave us a flight voucher for the Moxy. Immediately upon arriving we were greeted by friendly and welcoming staff. The vibe in the lobby is ultra hip. Would love to come back or stay in another Moxy when we get a chance. We were in the guitar room with a love sac and an actual playable guitar. Rooms were clean, quiet and the bed was comfortable. Would highly recommend this hotel and plan on trying to stay at another Moxy in the future. read more

There was a huge cockroach that came into my room on the morning of my graduation (roughly the side of 3 fingers) and ran onto me when I was using the toilet. I asked for someone from the front to take care of it and they only removed the cockroach. I was disgusted because if you see a cockroach during the day, there must be others crawling around. I had to call again and ask to be moved room. I was moved rooms and they apologized and offered to comp our breakfast. This was okay, but now 2 weeks and 3 calls later they charged me for this breakfast they should have taken care of. I was pretty excited to stay at this Moxy location after staying at the Milan Airport location, and I got a great rate on Hotwire. The lobby is great, and definitely a nice place to hang out with friends. But a lot of customer service issues came up during the visit that made it a very frustrating stay. I checked in on a Saturday and found out there was no guitar in my room. I came down and chatted with the staff, and I was promised they'd put one in my room while I was out to dinner. I returned late night to find that it wasn't done, and the staff could not find a working guitar. After sitting in the lobby for 15 minutes, they brought me a guitar with a broken string. It wasn't a huge deal, but it was frustrating to have to ask 3 times for something. When I pulled in that Saturday night, there was no parking available. The front desk staff then told me that there was a party and they wouldn't be staying overnight. That didn't help me as I was trying to park for the night, so I was told to park on a red curb where it was technically illegal for me to park. I'm glad my car wasn't towed, but had there been a fire I'm sure my car would have been liberally moved by firefighters. That's two strikes against MOXY. They could have warned me about this earlier at check-in and I would have just Ubered to dinner. The third strike came on my last day. I had arranged a 4pm late check-out as I was up until 7am the night before for work. Just after noon the front desk called and woke me up asking me if I was checking out. The front desk staff hadn't seen the note on my account, so my sleep was ruined and I tried in vein to go back to bed. Then housekeeping knocked on my door as I was about to fall back asleep and asked me the same question. The staff clearly doesn't know how to communicate with each other or the front desk would have immediately called the housekeeping manager to tell them I had a late check out. They should have had this on their daily report in the first place as I checked TWICE the day before about my 4pm late check out. I addressed all of this with the hotel manager, who apologized for this and the earlier issues. He actually said he'd refund my entire stay, which I said wasn't necessary. Weeks later, there is no refund on my card that he insisted he'd get done. Just another thing that was told to me about getting done and did not. I love the property and the amenities provided in the lobby, but they have a LONG way to go for customer service. They should be ashamed to be part of the Marriott brand with the way they kept dropping the ball during my stay. read more

Came here for a drink before our comedy show. Very cute, chic typical boutique hotel. Interior is very modern w an eclectic selection of art pieces n light fixtures. And the lobby is connected to the bar! How cute!! And they even have old school video arcade game Pac-man and two pinball machines w a foosball table n a pool table. Super fun! As soon as I sat at the bar, I saw on the menu, what I usually order, a glass of prosecco. As soon as I ordered this, our server informed me that the menu is outdated n they no longer carry prosecco so if I want something different? I opted for a glass of champagne. The bar didn't have any champagne glasses so they gave it to me in a rocks glass. So far, not a big deal. As soon as I drank the champagne, it was warm. Ok no one wants to drink warm champagne n I told our server. She said she would switch it out for me n the reason it's warm is not due to the champagne (that's been in the fridge) but cuz of the cups. Her and another server iced the cups to make the cup colder. I appreciated all the efforts but I felt like the bar should have been prepared better. Then my husband asks for a crown n coke n the bar didn't carry crown either. Perhaps I came by at a bad time but I wasn't too impressed w their bar. When you call the main number (go ahead, do it now) you know something's weird about this place. It's a super contrived 'millenial' offering but they're just trying SO hard and missing. From the pool table with every cue / stick broken, to the record library with missing discs, to the broken pinball machines and arcade machines - before you get past the lobby - you know something is awry. They're really trying hard to attract the younger crowd but I don't think the stuffy execs at Marriott know that the younger crowd wants a decent hotel experience not just kitschy decor and too many cheesy quotes and Instagram selfie reminders everywhere. The rooms are minimalist. No closet, no safe, that's all good. But I don't know how many people want to play on the provided guitar on the wall or listen to records on the record players you can borrow. Need a fridge? Borrow that too. Blocked toilet? Borrow a plunger (yeah, my toilet was blocked (nothing crazy here, just apparently a very sensitive toilet system) and overnight there was no staff to resolve it. They bought me a plunger and wished me luck) They have a strange communal ironing room which I doubt anyone would feel comfortable actually using called the 'stash' where you can also borrow a coffee maker (there were 3 available on my floor of 45 or so rooms) or grab more towels. Staffed by very young folks - all super nice but not really 'seasoned' in the hospitality industry - a stuffy old white guy's attempt to attract the younger crowd. A total whiff. Positives - two free drinks at the bar when you check in. Beds are comfortable and it's fairly quiet on the 2nd floor and up. The light blocking shutters on the windows are pretty good. The automatic bed underlighting is good for having a pitch black room but still being able to get up in the night. WiFi was pretty good even if it drops every now and then Negatives - creepy vibe, too many broken amenities, relies too much on 'borrowing' convenient items, food choices extremely limited, no free breakfast. Trying way too hard to be something the brand is not. If you need a place to sleep ('crash', as they say in the main number) I guess it would suffice. Fun decor and vibes. The check-in process was a new experience because it is not your typical front desk, it's a fun bar. BUT they are great at communicating via email as to where and how to check in, so it wasn't a surprise. The free drink upon check in was SO yummy! Clean rooms, friendly staff, good food for room service. The only issue for me was the low water pressure in the shower. (Yes, I understand, trying to conserve water) I'd stay here again. Moxy--the opposite of cool. I came to the Moxy with a desire to have fun and enjoy the "cool factor" this hotel attempted to portray. I left disappointed. Despite their effort to appear vibrant, this hotel is tired. It is mostly clean, but feels dirty and worn out. The focus on the bar as the hot spot of activity (from check-in to drinks and food) made it work poorly in general. And, although I enjoyed aspects of my room, it was missing the elements they advertised to set it apart. An empty guitar hook was affixed to the wall-lame. An empty table sat where a record player was supposed to be-super lame. A worn love sack sat in a dark corner-comfortable but the corner was so dark it felt stupid to sit in it--like a punishment.. So, I guess the hotel delivered on one of the three "cool" room items it advertised. But 33% is still a failing grade. Overall, I had a feeling of disappointment at this hotel, like I would hope mother Marriot would feel after little Moxy came home from school with an "F" in "Hotel Management." Maybe Moxy could get some tutoring and actually try. Maybe Moxy could spend less time making selfies trying to look cool and actually BE cool. Maybe....... And, this brings me to my last point--who was in charge? I saw no indication of a manager or person "in-charge" at the hotel. This became a particular problem when the hotel hosted a Chamber of Commerce event, which filled the parking lot well beyond capacity, leaving no spaces available for guests. After coming back from dinner and hoping to relax, I circled the building multiple times trying to park and actually use my room--no luck. I stopped at the entry way and went inside hoping to get some help from staff--no luck. So, instead of enjoying the room I paid for, I drove around town aimlessly waiting for the Chamber of Commerce mixer that overtook the entire lobby, parking lot, and bar, to end. There Moxy goes again trying to be cool. But trying to throw a party and failing is not cool. I have a new rule now. Instead of saying something is "lame, " I am just going to say: "that is Moxy." Anyone who used this hotel would certainly understand and just shake their head with disappoint. read more

Given it's spring training in AZ, hotels are very inflated and the variety is slim. I chose this hotel because it fits within my companies approved price range ($200 or less) so I shouldn't complain too much. But, I almost feel it's my duty to warn society. DO NOT STAY HERE! The hallways consist of stained carpet and smells, lots of smells. The rooms come complimentary with a lingering odor as well; entering this property is kind of like stench roulette. Best part is, you can't open the window more than 3"; the mildew esq A/C unit is your last hope. I could go on and on. The borderline scary sounds at all hours of the night, housekeeping staff that looks like a prison crew, crummy food, etc. On the bright side, the showers (minus the mildew in tile grout) are snazzy and a relaxing experience. Dear Marriott, Dump this property from your portfolio! read more

Stayed at The Moxy 8 nights ( 4 separate visits) in the last few months. Super fun hotel with a great loby that has a pool table, foosball table, a few arcade games and board games, plus a bar and loung area! Good sized rooms and a large heated pool with a great pool area with a ping pong table, cabana type seating and lounge chairs. Beds were comfy and staff has always been super nice and helpful. Very accommodating to things like extra pillows and blankets when needed. Big roomy showers and good sized rooms. Very convenient for visiting asu and lots of places to eat within walking distance. Already planning my next visit! read more
