Quilt Patch Fabrics, Stallings, NC: great once, then ruined my quilt and never made it right…read more
I've used Quilt Patch Fabrics at 1017 Stallings Road in Stallings, North Carolina, twice. The first time, around October 2025, they quilted my project beautifully and trimmed it to exactly an eighth of an inch of batting without touching the quilt top. I left thrilled, which is why I went back.
The second time, I brought in a Tilda Merry Christmas quilt I had pieced from 1,050 hand-cut pieces, made while I was recovering from a devastating personal loss. It was not just a quilt to me. I chose the trim option on their longarm service form, which reads "Trim my quilt along edge of quilt top." It does not say they will cut into the top. I trusted that, along with the shop's 30 years of experience and the great result I'd gotten before.
I got a call that my quilt was ready, and I was so excited. After a very hard week, I was sure having it back would lift my spirits. When I picked it up on Friday, August 7, 2026, the edges looked wrong, and I said so. Staff took the quilt from my hands to photograph it, then folded it into the bag with the edges hidden and had me out the door within moments. At home, I unfolded it and found a quarter inch had been cut off all the way around, taking the seam allowance I needed to attach my binding. After the week I'd had, it made everything so much worse. My photos show the trimmed edge and the strips they cut off, which include slivers of my border fabric.
I brought the quilt back the next day, Saturday, August 8, 2026, showed them how upset I was, and asked for a refund on the quilting. One saleswoman patted my hand and told me to calm down. Others told me it was just a quilt and no one would notice. I asked to speak with the owner, who agreed with her staff. I was told they had changed their policy and now trim quilts down to a one-inch border. But my quilt was designed to have a one-inch border after the binding was attached, and that depends on the seam allowance they cut off.
The owner told me her partner wasn't there that day, that she would need to speak with her, and that she would let me know on Monday. Nothing happened on Monday. In the more than two months since, I have received no call, no message, and no email from the shop.
I gave them time to do the right thing. To me, it was not "just a quilt," and I felt dismissed and patronized.
For a shop that teaches classes and knows exactly what a quarter inch means in quilting, this was a painful and avoidable mistake, made worse by how it was handled. I cried for two days, and I still cry whenever I look at it. I haven't been able to finish it, and I haven't been able to touch it since.
I'm not asking anyone to take my word for it. My photos and the shop's own form are attached. The quilting itself may be lovely, but I will never use this shop again, for quilting, fabric, or notions.
