This company came out to remove two huge cypress trees because Edison said they were too close to the power lines and they were great. They were responsible, communicative about what was going on, they noticed another tree close by and he said it might get damaged during the tree trimming but he would do his best to save it, and he did! He trimmed my damaged tree and they even cleaned up. They were nice and I even asked the guy to save us a slab of the tree trunk and he did. No complaints at all. read more

This review is for the Sacramento team led by Miguel and contracted by SMUD to take out our giant redwood today. They did a fantastic job. I can't believe how well they all worked together to get it done so quickly. Those guys are fearless and precise. They were also nice and they cleaned up everything better than I anticipated. We didn't need to sweep or blow or anything. This job didn't cost us anything - we just have to get rid of the huge pieces of the trunk that are over 12" wide - probably 50lbs each, so I was prepared to do some cleanup. I feel bad that I have negatives but: 1) We had no idea they were coming today. I happened to be home sick and my husband has a remote call center job where he HAS to be on the phone with no flexibility. Mobray's called 10 minutes before they arrived and just a few minutes before my husband had to be logged on. We had to scramble to move cars and stuff out of the way in the side yard. And we weren't able to forewarn our neighbors about the giant equipment blocking the street or the noise. That wasn't cool. 2) SMUD's arborist told us that our oak trees were fine and needed no trimming, but Mobray's said they were also hired to trim our protected oak tree. Contracted by SMUD to trim away trees from the power lines - fine, you get what you get in these situations so I didn't expect much. What I really didn't expect was to come home to an absolutely butchered scarlet oak tree. I get that they have to remove trees from the lines but they topped the tree by cutting a good six feet straight off the top at a 45 degree angle. And then they told my husband they would remove the tree for free. Who does that? Someone who realizes how badly they screwed up and is trying to get rid of the problem. I'm really hoping my tree doesn't die, I'm really hoping it doesn't grow back in a hideous shape, and of course this is a tree I planted with my mom who passed away last year so it feels extra icky. While accessing the trees in the complex behind us, they damaged a sapling in my backyard and cut down large limbs from our trees without contacting us in any way before, during or after. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! Mowbray's does not even deserve one star. This company came to my house under contract by PGE to trim back some branches near power lines. This crew SEVERELY pruned a 50+ year old Madrone tree that had been professionally trimmed 3 weeks previously. Neighbors at both adjoining properties witnessed the extensive pruning as well; one of the neighbors actually asked the tree trimming crew to stop work. When the PGE foreman and lines crew returned to begin line repair work, they were equally surprised by the extent of pruning and damage to the tree. The crew foreman even suggested I submit a damage claim to PGE (he used the word "butchered"). Our once-gorgeous tree is very damaged. We understand the need for thoughtful pruning, but are horrified by the extreme and shoddy work that was conducted by this company. We will not let them on our property again. read more

There are plenty of bad reviews regarding Mowbray's Tree Service, but I can tell you only good things about the two gentlemen from Mowbray's that came to my door wanting to trim my palm trees because of the power lines. Raymando Galvez and Jose Valdocino, actual workers from Mowbray's, explained everything they needed to do and assured me the palms would look nice when they finished. I was very pleased with the end results. I usually hire others to trim the palm trees and every time I end up cleaning up excess prawns and dates that fall from the palms. These two gentlemen cleaned up after themselves to the point that one would never know they were in the backyard. They also did my neighbors trees and same results. Two of the guys from this company were on my property this morning. They were very rude and I felt like disrespectful at the same time. They trimmed our Cypress trees and went on to trim the tree by our management office and left without saying a word. When they got here they didn't come and check in with me in the office nor when they left did they come to the office and let me know. They were here to trim the trees back from the power lines and didn't finish the job. I have delt with them before, however the guys that I delt with were much more pleasant and professional. They are sub contracted with SMUD to clean up power lines - they dumped all the cut material right in front of my house - blocking all my street parking and my driveway access - sadly I had to actually tell the guys to move the debris cause they were obviously not intelligent enough to realize they had piled it all in front of my house blocking all my parking access. When I asked them to move the debris they said they would get to it shortly and I had to tell him it needs to be done now cause I can't park in my driveway. I have a low threshold for people and businesses who are generally inconsiderate of others, more so when it is because they are blatantly stupid. read more

Worst behaved employees I have seen. Watched them start a fight with the maintenance technician that was fixing my patio light. They started whistling and yelling that he needed to stop helping me and move all the cars in the parking lot for them. The worst Palm Tree trimming I have ever seen. On Saturday, May 2nd, 2020, "Mowbray's Tree Service," a San Bernardino based company, shaved the street side only of many palm trees along the Southside of Country Club Drive between Portola Avenue and El Dorado Drive. When I asked a representative what on earth they were doing, I was told that they had been hired by Southern California Edison to trim the palm trees that may be near their lines. The reason only one side is trimmed is what SCE is requesting. I've lived here for over Fifty years and have never seen a worse job done. They have butchered and damaged the city's trees. The City of Palm Desert has guidelines in place for the trimming of palm trees; why were they being completely ignored in this case, please? It is so hideously ugly that if Mowbray's can't be trusted to do this job properly perhaps the trees should just be removed. Who would be responsible for this, please? Thank you. These guys will tell you that they are from SCE when they are not. They'll cut down trees that don't need to be cut so that they can bill SCE for their service. If you let them on your property once they will return over and over no matter how many times you tell them not to. If they tell you you need tree service for fire prevention tell them to go away and then call another tree trimmer read more

Big company. I have used them a few times to cut trees around my property. They know what they are doing and have a lot of experience trimming all kinds of trees. I would say you can probably get the work done cheaper with someone else but I have never regretted having someone I trust (as well as licensed and insured) do the work. read more

We were quoted to trim two trees and one bush after Hector came to inspect the job. We specifically requested that the branches be trimmed away from the roof line which was acknowledged during the inspection. When they came out to do the job, they said they only quoted to trim some of the branches from the tree line and wanted an additional $100 to remove the entire fire hazard. The quote also included clean-up and haul-away, but they left an enormous amount of debris in the driveway. When we called them back, they said they wanted another $50.00 to clean-up the driveway. Maybe this company was low bid, but SMUD needs to pay attention to the reviews of Mowbray Tree Service. This morning I regret letting them into my back yard. They hacked away at my trees with apparently dull equipment without a thought to proper tree trimming methods. They made an ugly unnecessary mess out of one side of an old oak tree and dropped heavy limbs on small trees next to the large tree. When I tried to talk with them about maintaining the integrity of my old trees, the language barrier was insurmountable. I called SMUD customer service and spoke with a very nice representative named Hector. He was sympathetic but I basically got nowhere. Everyone who could do something about the hacking going on in my backyard was "in a meeting" (yeah, really? That excuse is an old one.) I was offered a call-back which is pretty useless because the damage is already done. At the price of our SMUD service, I expect they will not hire people who butcher trees. By the time you realize what they have done, they're packed up and gone. They totally messed up my tree and they don't care. They cut back 1/3 of the entire tree leaving it bare. I'm so pissed I can't see straight. I WILL NEVER GIVE THEM PERMISSION TO CUT MY TREES AGAIN. Don't give them access. They will mess up your trees and tell you total BS. They get 0 stars from me. I was referred to Mowbray from Lasher Crane and Tree Removal Service, which my neighbor had successfully used recently. Rick Mowbray came December 29, 2022 to give estimate on 18 tree toppings, and shape 2 trees for $1900. Said he would be here 12-31-22 at 8 a.m. to do job. He did not show, and at 8:30 I called him. He said he did not have my phone number, but was going to stop and postpone job til January 7, 2023. I unhappily agreed. Then January 1, 2023 a large limb fell off our maple tree which luckily missed our house & I called Rick again to come check tree out. He came Monday 1-2-23, and cut back most of tree, which was bee infested. They had to purchase bee suits. Said would be back Wednesday 1-4-23 to completely remove tree. They left 2 ladders behind on my property. Wednesday, Rick cancelled due to Ontario job. He said they will be back Saturday, 1-7-23. Again, unhappy I agreed. Then on January 6, 2023, Rick cancelled for Saturday, due to rains causing emergency work in northern CA. I finally just cancelled with him, and contacted another Tree Care instead. They did an awesome job and came January 6th and finished the job January 7th! Rick's crew broke a cap on my fence and a spigot on my back wall. Rick tries to be a nice person, but is very unorganized and becomes irate if you argue with him. I would not recommend this company at all. Everything has to be on his terms, even including when they pick up their ladders and billing me $900. I got a wake up call this morning at 7 a.m. that they would be here in 20 minutes to get their 2 ladders and give the bill! Good riddance! As for the bee suits, they are a tree service and should have already had suits, which the other tree company carries! I gave them 1 star for dealing with the bees. read more

In all honesty if you'd asked me last Thursday (after the job was done) how I felt this wouldn't have been a 5 star review. Working for SMUD they were taking down a 60-70 foot eucalyptus tree in our backyard and it was tough work. From the beginning they were very polite (and apologetic when it took longer to complete the job) and I appreciated how much effort they put into it. Unfortunately after the job was done I realized they had left pieces that were just to large and difficult to deal with and I wasn't sure I could get them hauled away. I was definitely frustrated and expressed it in a complaint. The next day - rather than blowing me off they come out to check and apologized when they realized how large the detritus was. Monday they came out and carved it all up into MUCH more manageable pieces AND they were kind enough to do a great job cleaning up after - despite my protestations that it wasn't necessary. So I appreciate this company and the hard work they did - it may not have been awesome initially but they made good on it in the end and I really appreciated that. I believe in giving people a chance and if they make a mistake, so long as they fix it, they are good in my book. And Mowbray Tree Service did that. I would recommend them to anyone as a stand up company. read more

They have cut down perfectly healthy beautiful trees in our neighborhood that are nowhere near any power lines under the guise of "safety" just so they can get paid by SoCal Edison. This company did tree work on a major road within my neighborhood without proper signage signaling road closures - for multiple days. I left a message with the company and sent an email via their contact form to alert them of the problem several days ago, and I have not received a response. Due to the road closures, I was not able to access my house for 15+ minutes (and I had my sick, screaming infant in the car). If the company had appropriate signs indicating the road closures, major traffic hold ups could have been avoided. Do not hire this company due to their terrible customer service alone. read more

They were hired by PG&E to cut trees near the power lines. They also cut my cable line at the time. I was home when it happened, I told the workers about it right when it happened but they denied it. Xfinity came and verified it was in fact cut and they'll have to run a new line. I also called Jamie, who was in charge of the project, right when it happened and he didn't bother to return the call (though he was very responsive when he wanted me to agree to let them cut the trees). I see from the reviews there are others who had the same experience. Long story short, I will never let them on my property again. Terrible company. read more

They worked on a broken tree branch that was on the powerlines. No consideration for the yard. They needless broke a path light, moved items (and did not put them back), damaged multiple plants and left large branches in the bushes. Generally left a giant mess. Unresponsive and unreliable. PG&E contracted this company to remove a pine tree from my house to prevent growing branches from reaching the power lines. On Thursday, 2 people came to my house to look at the tree and said they would do the service on Friday at 1 pm. I waited for them on Friday but no show no courtesy call. However, we got the phone number of one of them and called to ask if they were coming and he said: "plan changed we'll come on Monday but we don't know when". Again, today is Monday and we've heard nothing from them until 2 pm. I called the guy and he said he does not know anything and gave me the company name saying I should call the company. I got on the internet searching for the company number and called them but no response. Fortunately, I found these helpful Yelp comments and I will definitely not let these guys set foot on my property again. We just moved into the house and now I understand why the pine tree looks so ugly & half dying. It was trimmed by PG&E's order in the past. I am so sorry for those who had bad experiences with this company and thank you for spreading the word. FYI, one of the guys told my husband that PG&E paid them $10K (yes, ten thousand dollars) to remove the pine tree. He told us because we ask how much it costs to trim 3 other trees in the yard together said it is $5K and that PG&E paid them $10K for pine tree removal. read more

This company, Mowbray tree service was subcontracted by Davey's tree service in Placerville to remove a dead Ponderosa Pine in my neighbor's yard. They dropped the tree...(150 ft. ) in 75. Ft. Sections which crossed my driveway, dropped the power and cable lines and smashed my concrete driveway in half. Took forever to find out who they were, but eventually was able to locate them. They hire (from what I can see) illegals who speak very little English. The manager...Steve has still not stepped up to take care of our damages. This happened March 21st. I've been advised by Davey tree service that they will consider not using this company any longer, I certainly hope. But in the meantime, if you need ANY tree work whatsoever, better to use someone else. Just look at all the bad yelp reviews. I am posting a couple pics of what they did. They cut one of our tree last year no permission and then gave wood to our neighbors which was probably about $200 then today once again working around the property seem they just like to talk about people even though we can hear them and understand the language they don't seem to care, even the traffic control people with them have attitude and give looks . Need to teach them to be thankful they have a job and be more professional and if they don't like their job just quit. I would not recommend them to assist you at your home. Called them at the end of the day to find out what was going on and there response was, "there not there, there supposed to be and let me research this." Never received any follow up call.
