This is a wonderful theater. The prices are great and their people are all outstanding, especially Ryan, at the counter.

Been here many times, bar tenders especially have been great. I've interacted with two of them and they've both been very friendly and have gone out of their way, even making custom drinks when they're out of what I wanted originally. Great experience. Food is good, not amazing or anything, but it adds to the experience for sure. From a business perspective, that's your money maker- yet someone forgot to tell the owners that the slow, lazy, disinterested woman behind the bar is terrible. No idea what the negative reviews are about. This is the best theater in the whole Metro area. It makes AMC look silly. The quality is far above any other theater. It's clean, staff is friendly, no extra charge for online ordering, the online food ordering app is amazing, the cleanliness is second to none, the seats are comfortable, and the projectors and screens are top-notch. Great for families. Anyone who complains about this place doesn't understand the whole theater scene in the area. This is by far the best movie theater around. read more

This is one of my favorite movie theaters now. Why? Not super crowded. Full restaurant menu that you can order from your seat. The servers are really friendly. Spacious theatres. I went here twice recently to see Avengers Inifinity War and both times I was impressed. The theatre is clean and there is a lot of space in between rows. The menu was changed about five weeks ago and I have to say it's better than before. I ordered the game day platter from the new menu and it was great. It came with wings, sliders, and cheese fries. The only thing lacking over here is reclining seats. Otherwise it's top-notch. read more

It's a decent theater. Wouldn't say it's like 5 star quality but for the service and able to have space between neighbors is nice. The Mac and cheese was surprisingly delish. I had put the ribs on the side cause I couldn't substitute for another protein. The MTX to view action movies is always the better options esp choosing your own seats. They have 3-D options here too! Food is comparable to most bar joints. Not the best but not the worst. It's nice options for alcohol and some bar food snacks. Can't wait to go on Tuesdays to watch basic movies. read more

Comfortable chairs but the chair, which is a recliner, is broken...so doesn't recline all the way. Also, some theatre seats are heated, some not so don't expect it. 2nd time here and the tables and seat arms had crumbs, goey stuff on it as shown in pics. Didn't take pics of crumbs as I had to sit. And also, nice that there are servers, but carrying on fun convos next to someone trying to watch the movie is not good. ....still looking for a good theatre that's dark, has good sound and no one bothering you.. My husband and I love going to the movies and we pick here over other theaters in the area even though it's more pricey. Food is always good, but yes a little overpriced. Wish we could use military discount some way through the app, but understandable. The one thing that always bothers me when we go is when we go to show our tickets. Sometimes it's at the counter to scan and sometimes it's at the little podium in front of theatre 1 to scan. And almost every time we choose wrong. Either make a sign on where to show our tickets or be consistent and just pick 1 spot. Gets annoying when they tell you every time "oh actually go scan over there". read more

Decided to see a movie and what better way the a meal with your movie. NOPE! They aren't serving food anymore and they don't tell you that when you order tickets. We arrived and unpleasantly surprised by this because we drove almost an hour because we wanted to eat and watch a movie instead of eating after the movie. We went to the bar for drinks. Great experience every time we go. Drinks are well done and food is good enough. They change the menu up which I like and have ample items to choose Great for families and for me is the new movie experience. Gone are the popcorn, nacho, hotdog, Candy only movie theaters. Just an update; I've been back to MT twice now and am fairly happy with the experience. Great seats, the drinks are big and I can order the soda water and lime I so enjoy, and the popcorn can be had layered with butter. We've been abstaining from the food, so I've got nothing to complain about. :) read more

Pros: Wonderful experience, great service nice seating. Friendly waiters very accommodating. Not too loud. Booze! Cons: They just changed their menus and not for the better. They have taken off my favorites such as the fried artichokes and replaced them with mozzarella sticks... (No offense to anyone who likes cheese sticks) I like them too but, I like my artichokes and I'm a little bitter. Not only that! MT took off the fish tacos which WERE nice and fresh. I would venture to say that most items that were once fresh and healthy are now gross and greasy. So, if into subpar food; That's cool enjoy. I guess management thinks their customers are too lowbrow to understand good comestibles. Crappy food is now a substitute in order for MT to make more money. Maybe? My wife and I decided to give Movie Tavern a try this weekend (5/31/19) because we were already on the Northshore running errands. In hindsight, I wish we would've just kept on going right across the lake. Parking: The parking lot, located behind the theatre, is a bit of a mess and very poorly lit at night. There is ample space, but it is also poorly marked and in combination with the lighting situation could use some improvement. Ticketing/Admission: This is really the only reason I gave 2-stars instead of 1 (other than the fact that the screen worked). The front house staff were generally friendly and we were able to walk right in and be seated in under 2 minutes. Dining/Movie Experience: Yikes! We booked seats in the top row, "H" I believe, and the view was fine. The seats themselves however are extremely uncomfortable. The cushions are worn and not soft or supportive. We opened the menu to select a drink and I noticed in red bold letters, "Ask about our craft beer selection!". I asked our waiter and he replied, "Uh, we don't really have any." So that was a bust. My wife got a glass of wine which was fine, not memorable. My wife and I both eat a plant based diet and try to stay away from overly fried/unhealthy dining options. That being said, the menu was already extremely restricted. As a previous reviewer mentioned, the majority of the menu is fried/gluten so if you are looking for anything above Applebee's quality food, look elsewhere. My wife went with a shrimp quesadilla which she did not finish. She said the shrimp were questionably cooked and it just tasted like a blob of cheap cheese. I went with the Baja Veggie Burger and side salad based on the description on the menu. The burger was inedible, I had two bites and had to push it away. Sour cream poured out the sides of a stale brioche bun, and the lukewarm at best veggie patty lie tasteless under a kraft single melted on top. Overall: For $45 + Price of Tickets, I was expecting much more. Avoid this place if at all possible. read more

Just went back to the Movie Tavern last night. In my earlier review I remarked on how it's a great place to watch a movie but the food is terrible. The manager replied to my review asking me to contact him and I did but then I never heard from him again. On this visit we ordered popcorn and drinks which were fine, the same popcorn as any theater. Our server was polite and quick. This time the lights stayed on when the movie started for a couple of minutes! The rest of my group didn't even realize the movie had started. Then someone got a clue and turned off the lights. My nephew wanted a milkshake and later ordered fries. My son handed a fry to me and one bite made me sorry. I needed a gulp of my drink to get that taste out of my mouth. How do you ruin French Fries? So I stand by my first review. Watch movies there (hopefully they'll turn the lights down at the right time) but don't order food there. read more

We have been back countless times since the pandemic and been really impressed with the management. Roland has taken care of any hiccups we have had with showtimes, tickets, accommodating groups, etc and is very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The theatres have been very clean and the food comes out hot and on time. We love the Family Film Series and the $5 Tuesdays deals and I am so happy to get to share my love of cinema with my little ones in a theatre that really accommodates the unique needs of families. I really had hoped to see improvement in the food at Movie Tavern- but no such luck. Even now that we are able to return to the movies after Covid, we usually have to choose to eat before or after the movie. Come on MT! It wouldn't take much to improve in this area- there is nowhere to go but up! read more

I always arrive at least 30 minutes before the movie starts so I get my meal before it or when it starts. Last night it took an hour and ten minutes which really ruin the movie for me because I was thinking the whole time where's my food. We were one of the first to arrive and the whole theater got their food before us. When it did arrive it was cold like it was sitting out. This same thing happen two weeks before under the same circumstances. If I go back to the theater I will eat before the movie and just get popcorn. Oh, and the popcorn was so salty last it was inedible. Had to wait 15 minutes for someone to came back then another 15 to bring a new bucket. Maybe I won't get that either. Also witness a double booking of seats which was I had never seen before. Two groups in d people booked the same set of seats for the same movie time. Not sure how that happen via it's booked on the computer. The movie was sold out so the second set of people had to leave. read more

Well this was my favorite place to watch a movie but I not so sure anymore. Theater was dirty, I asked for a damp cloth to clean the armrests with and was told "no problem", well I never got the cloth. What should have been done was the server should have cleaned the armrests himself. They forgot to turn off the lights when the movie started. They didn't turn them back on at the end of the movie. They were out of what was needed to make one of there signature shakes. They were out of large popcorn tubs. The men's room hadn't been moped all day, counters hadn't been wiped either. The seats are getting flat and hard, my buns were sore after sitting for my movie. And finally the Chinese chicken salad, a good portion of the lettuce was wilted and some of the chicken was not cooked all the way. My wife had to use her phone flashlight to finish her meal. When your eating in the dark you have to trust the food on your plate, not sure if I can at this location. I might give it one more try but I am not happy. read more

They are sacrificing people's experience so they can make more money having more seats. Also, their $5 Tuesday deal is a lie because then you have to pay $3.50 for an online 'processing' fee. Large theaters with limited seating. Very nice spacious seats with an attached tray on a swivel. TIP: reserve your seats online ahead of time but don't choose the first two rows or you will have a headache from being too close. You can order food and alcoholic beverages. A waiter is available during the entirety of the movie. The menu is rather large with yummy selections. read more

The concept is great. The reality is...not. I once ate at a movie theater in North Carolina that served their own specialty pizza plus there was a brewery upstairs. Specialty pizza and craft beer? Winning combo. It was pretty damn awesome. I went here knowing it wouldn't as good as that place in North Carolina, but still hoped it'd be alright. It just wasn't. The service was very, very, very slow. The food was very, very, very blah. The idea of eating during a show is awesome whether it's grilled cheese on the couch while watching a TV or snacks while watching a game. In my mind, the Movie Tavern is the greatest thing to happen to movies since the day I turned 17 and could watch R rated movies. In the real world they don't quite live up to the hype, but it is still a solid experience. The Good Seats - The seats at this theater are ballerific. They are huge theater chairs that are actually comfortable. Each chair has a table for food and drinks and a call button for the server. There is also plenty of leg room if you happen to be a giant. This leg room is also perfect for a small child to dance, spin and generally behave like a lunatic. If you're lucky a neighboring kid will give you a hearty laugh when he tells his parent your kid is cwazy, but I digress. Stretch out as much as you like. Theater - This theater has been upgraded to have all the modern technology. The viewing experience is quite good. The OK Food - As many others have mentioned, the food is mediocre. The types of food are what you'd expect in many chain restaurants, but the taste just wasn't there. I ordered a sampler platter of appetizers and found some of the items to be overcooked and others just downright bland. Food is reasonably priced, but like most theaters, drinks can get very expensive. Service - Service struggled despite the theater being only half full. Our server was pretty slow and showed up with food and the check at very inopportune times. I realize that is probably hard to gauge, but there should be some better system of paying. Maybe they could figure some way to keep a card on file or have you pay before the movie actually begins. If you like the concept of dining and watching a movie, this theater will fit that need. read more
