I've been doing yoga for almost 10 years and I've been a member at 24/hr Fitness, -ugly, nasty gym... and finally I found the right fit at Movement Studio. The space, the people, the location and the vibe are all in line with what I look for in an ideal workout experience. Yoga and pilates classes for all skill levels with comfortable and welcoming instructors and students alike is the big draw for me. I started with morning yoga classes where I was most comfortable and then added Elizabeth's 'Pure Sculpt' to my regime, -which is a mixture of mat pilates and ballet barre techniques. I've been seeing such great results and love my yoga teacher Rie so much I decided to try her Pole classes out as well. I'm pretty shy and had no interest, but my girlfriend encouraged me to go to a class with her and it wasn't what I expected. Rie is really fun and positive and immediately makes everyone feel comfortable. It's a very good workout for an individual and also very empowering for the group. We warm up with mat exercises and stretching, Rie choreographs dance routines and pole tricks to suit our level, sometimes she brings fun tutus and accessories to play with and even took us platform heel shopping. =) Libby's 'Candlelight Kundalini ' yoga is more about mind and soul, connecting to your body through meditation, while still providing a solid workout. I have yet to try Carolina Cerisola's burlesque class. I hear they dress up with boas and gloves and you learn a whole dance routine, how fun! read more

While I prefer kickboxing for exercise, I've taken a few yoga classes at Movement Studio and it's definitely something you won't find elsewhere in LA. The space is immaculate, closer to a million dollar home from a modern design magazine then a workout space. The roof deck is a great bonus. It's a very welcoming environment, even for men. Before signing up at a big gym you should at least check out Movement Studio. It really is impressive. read more

UPDATE: unfortunately, my free membership already expired & i was disappointed that i couldn't make use of it, since on their schedule, they don't have that many classes, esp. for the class i was looking fwd to taking: pole. sometimes, they'll cancel it last minute w/o a notice, til you actually log onto their site -_- elizabeth, the owner, was kind enough to comp my last free pole class, tho it was already past the month-free membership. to be honest, pole w/ rie's cool for BEGINNERS; was looking for something more fun & challenging. major con: PRICE! read more

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place. Elizabeth is such an amazing instructor. She has a banging bod which makes me think, "When I grow up, I wanna look like that nice lady." Then I suddenly realize I am a grown up, and I should stop drifting off in the middle of my sessions and deepen my abs. Seriously, though nothin but good things to say about this place. This is a great place for people who want to get away from the predictable and mundane fitness studios that are scattered throughout LA. Not only is there a great variety of fun classes with great teachers, the studio itself is beautiful and unexpected. You will wish it was your house! I bought a 3-class package from Daily Candy, and I chose to use them on Pure E-Sculpt with Elizabeth, Yoga with Rie, and Burlesque Rendezvous with Lauren. I enjoyed them all! Elizabeth and Rie were both really helpful in addressing my back pain, and tailored their classes to suit the needs of everyone in the class. I love teachers who can think on their feet. Because the studio space is small, the class sizes are small, allowing the teachers to give me individual attention. They gave me tips on how to alleviate the pain by correcting my posture in various poses. I felt noticeably better after their classes. I was nervous about Lauren's dance class because I look like an ostrich when I try to dance, but it was a lot of fun and a great workout. She took us through a solid warm-up that really worked my muscles, then choreographed a routine for us to do together. The routine was simple enough for an uncoordinated person like me to follow, and yet it was fun and sultry. I had a great time, even though I didn't know anyone there. Elizabeth, the owner, is a sweet person who cares about every detail of her studio and the people that she shares it with. This is definitely a place you'll want to come back to. read more

I am addicted to Movement Studio LA. I live in walking distance to several yoga studios and gyms, but I would rather make the sometimes 40 minute drive to Movement. I have been to two different yoga classes at this studio and I love them both. I finally look forward to a work out because of Movement and the amazing instructors. read more

This is a GIRL'S WORKOUT!!!! Finding Elizabeth and following her to her own studio has it has changed my life!! I don't like gyms. I don't like loud music. I don't like sweaty spaces with testosterone and adrenaline wafting through the air. I think men love this stuff and that I why Movement is so different. I look forward to going to such a clean, beautiful, airy, boutique studio and taking her e-pure sculpt class. I think her method is perfect for a woman who doesn't really like working out, but wants a long, lean, sculpted dancer's body. You realize that you don't have to do a million crazy reps to have a tone body, you just have to move the right muscles. I had not worked out in a VERY long time, was completely out of shape and a little nervous about starting a class. I decided to try Movement Studio LA because it's close to my apartment and they have a great unlimited first month plan. I've been going to classes for about 3 weeks now and I love them all! The instructors are all incredibly positive and down-to-earth and there is such a great variety of classes, from pilates to yoga to pole dance to hula hoop!...never a dull class. The space is clean and bright and the classes are always small and individualized. I've never felt out of place and am steadily building my strength and toning and I feel great! My introduction to the studio began when I signed up for the After 8 burlesque series, a fun group of classes that really inspires you to strut your stuff in a comfortable and enouraging atmosphere. I loved it so much I returned for several series and can't wait until I have the time to do it again! This past May, I was looking for an ideal place to have my birthday party. After considering several Hollywood hot-spots, hotels and other venues, Movement Studio LA remained at the top of my list. The studio has a very inviting, open design that is perfect for bringing people together. It's classy and comfortable - a modern, luxurious space complete with a spectacular rooftop deck with 360 degree views. Elizabeth and her team went to great lengths to customize a party that met my personal needs and budget. It was truly such a memorable event for both me and my guests. The owner and all instructors are the BEST! There is free 2-hour parking on the nearby side streets on the weekend and metered-parking on the weekdays. I completely agree with the review above. This studio reminds me of a New York loft. It's beautiful and airy and has a great vibe. Elizabeth Ordway is the owner and she is amazing. I have worked out with her for many years, even before she opened her own studio. She has gotten me back into great shape after both of my babies. I dare say I look better now than before. If I could give Movement Studio six stars, I would. I just moved to LA and this place has been a godsend. Its more than a place I go to work out, it is a gorgeous space filled with wonderful, supportive people (both the staff and the students). It has literally been like a sanctuary to me while I've been struggling to figure out where I fit in in this town. Every time I'm there I think to myself how blessed I am to be able to work out in such a beautiful place with such great people. The approach to working out here is more tailored and holistic than I have found anywhere else, and a variety of different classes are offered so that there really is something for everyone. I have taken yoga classes with two of their instructors and would recommend them both. They were challenging, I felt like I was really working hard, but not so much so that I couldn't keep up. Elizabeth's Pure Sculpt class is my favorite. She uses a combination of mat based Pilates and ballet barre moves to really work your muscles but without having to strain hard. I'm always a little bit sore the next day in those hard to reach spots you want to be a little sore after a workout (butt, hamstrings, lower abs). Then there's the pole dancing. I never thought I'd be the type to try it, but I've been going consistently for the past few weeks and I just love it. I'm hooked! Its so much fun, gets you in touch with your sensual feminine side, and works out your upper body like crazy! I'd highly suggest Movement Studio to anyone who wants to get in shape in a great environment and wants to feel like their workouts are a treat instead of a chore. read more

I started going to Movement Studio earlier this year. I enrolled in the After 8 Burlesque series with Carolina and Sascha. I love this class! It's so much fun to play around and dance without having to be judged. Carolina and Sascha are amazing dancers. The owner, Elizabeth is also very pleasant. I drive a good distance to take this class. love this place, instructors are friendly and have personality, classes can be as easy or challenging as your body needs, and because of small class size, lots of individual attention is given. have been taking yoga, pole, barre sculpt classes there for over a year now and have seen a change in the shape of my body. the space itself is a trendy condo space,with hardwood floors, beautiful clean bathrooms and a rooftop deck. ideal for private parties. I did a private party during the holiday season last year, and my girlfriends loved it. elizabeth got us treats and snacks, and even hauled a christmas tree up the stairs and into the main room for a festive feel. will definitey be booking another holiday party there this year! read more
