Pretty solid gym overall, but there are definitely some things that could be improved. The biggest…read moreissue for me is the layout. It's basically one large open space where everything is mixed together--treadmills, weightlifting, and machines all in the same area. There are a couple of smaller rooms off to the side, but for the most part, about 95% of the gym is just one big open room with equipment stacked everywhere. It can honestly feel a little overwhelming. When you look around, it feels like a zoo at times with a huge number of people bouncing from one machine to the next. That said, I didn't really have an issue waiting for machines, even when it was busy--it's just crowded almost all the time. On the positive side, they do offer a lot of amenities: a pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, and showers. I used the steam room and showers, which were nice, but keep in mind you need to bring your own towel and your own lock for the wall lockers. A day pass is $10, which isn't bad at all for what you get. Parking was pretty easy, and they also have a protein bar along with premade healthy meals available for purchase, which is convenient. Overall, it's a decent facility with good amenities and value, but the constant crowd and open layout make it feel more chaotic than relaxing.

After moving closer to the Nees location, we started coming here regularly and were honestly shocked by the difference. Compared to the other locations, this one feels neglected. Especially during the summer, it is so uncomfortably hot inside. With temperatures being 105+ degrees lately, the A/C should absolutely be running, fans should be going, and it should not feel as muggy and stuffy as it does. The other locations don't feel this way at all. On top of that, there are times it smells unpleasant and overall just looks like it's not cleaned or maintained to the same standard. I have noticed a cleaning crew more recently, which is appreciated, but for a private gym (especially one that has won "Best Fitness Center" four years in a row) I expected much better, particularly when the other locations are so nice and well-kept. This Nees location doesn't even compare. That being said, there are definitely positives. I love the equipment selection, it's never overcrowded, and the trainers/staff have always been very friendly and helpful. I just wish this location received the same level of care as the others because it has so much potential.

And I can't forget how kind the girl working the ActiveMeals counter was with answering my questions (on 8/17/23). She made the recommendation, then the smoothie, then turned my world upside down! (Don't get jelly, wifey.) The smoothie was delicious. But I forgot you're here because of the gym review, so read on fitness freaks. The front desk staff is nice and attentive. They have plenty of GB3 trainers working with individuals, as well as housekeeping staff keeping this joint clean. The space is quite a bit smaller than I remember from our previous visits 8 years ago. But to be honest, it just looks like they've utilized there provided space more efficiently, which is NOT a good thing. Being spatially aware of my surroundings, I set myself up near the straight and curled weighted barbells so as to provide space for those who need to grab their weight and for those to pass me and the person doing seared cable rows in front of me. Out of proper consideration, people were avoiding passing in both directions. I could have taken the barbell elsewhere, but those spaces were occupied by motormouths and other fitness folk. Another example of this was at the flat bench press. It is positioned painfully close to the decline row machine that, 1) the guy using that was courteous enough to move his bag but providing him little foot room, and 2) when he sets the leverage bar handles back to rest, the handles stick out with just enough space between them and the end of the barbell from my setup of less then 14 inches. Sure I can pass, or GE can, or I change my weight from an awkward extension, making me concerned that a less capable or older feller trying to put 45s on could likely injure themselves. I did opt to share my machine with a trainer training a person looking to improve their health, so that's always a positive experience. The machines are in average shape, but they are lacking wipe, paper towel, and sanitizer stations (compared to other GB3s and other gyms.) This would put my review of this gym at 2.4 out of 5 stars. What brings it up to the 3 stars is the smoothie experience at ActiveMeals. $8 price withstanding, they saved this GB3 location from a negative review.
