I used to do Ashtanga and Iyengar yoga many…read moreyears ago with another studio, and have recently decided to take it up again due to the health benefits, and also as it clears my mind. The style I attend is Hatha, and the classes are different every time as the teacher adapts the classes to those who are attending. You do not do a set routine each time, and personally I find this more interesting because I like to have it mixed up a bit. The thing I love about yoga is that it is about your body and your personal limits, there is nothing more satisfying than feeling your body click into place more each time you attempt a pose than last time you tried it. Sharon is very encouraging as a teacher, and calm, she respects the limits of every class member and makes everyone feel good about what they can do. She leans more towards the spiritual side but there is no chanting, which is fine by me. Each class will have as many as two or three meditative periods, and I find that at the end I feel very light and experience a wonderful sense of calm and wellbeing. I often find that if I practice yoga for any period of time my core strength improves markedly, and I have better posture and can breathe easier. All this and leaving class each Tuesday night as if I have just had a relaxing full body massage for only $16 a session, is certainly a bargain in my book.

What a lovely little place to soak up the sun & enjoy some guilt-free treats!…read more Inception is tucked away in a house on Young St, pretty much right opposite the Showground. So handy for me, considering if I want a health fix, I usually have to go to King William Rd. The front part of the house is a gym & yoga studio which is laid out to look inviting & non-intimidating, complete with a massge room. There are yoga, meditation & bootcamps (but called HappyCamp!) on every day with a pretty good timetable - will definitely need to check out a class sometime! The back of the building is a cafe with a small serving area & indoor as well as outdoor seating. It's one of those places that has used a mish mash of furniture, making it feel cosy & inviting (that's the second time I've used that word in this review - are you getting the idea?). The menu is dedicated to health with delicious sounding breakfasts & a cabinet full of healthy slices, wraps, salads & more. The drinks menu is long too with a great range of smoothies & juices. I opted for the Tofu Scramble & green smoothie- delish! Service was friendly & fast - the guy who served us offered to show us through the gym area as well, so they are clearly trying to build up the fitness side of the business. This will be the perfect spot for me to grab lunch, especially over summer. And I love that they open early (7am) so I now have a new 'breakfast on the run' option for when I'm running late for work!

Leanne, who runs the yoga studio and teaches most of the classes is an amazing yogi. She can demonstrate alignment of muscles on her body so accurately it is like having a moving version of Grays Anatomy in front of you. She is one of the finest proponents of Iyengar Yoga in Adelaide and that is no mean feat. For those of you "in the know" it takes major discipline, with years and years of daily practice to attain this level of flexibility and knowledge. Mind you, Leanne is a little on the OCD side, which I think you almost have to be as an Iyengar yoga teacher: All the props are black, as are the mats, with contrasting white walls; the studio itself screams discipline and order. It is also the only studio where you have to wipe down your mats with wet ones after ( which isn't a bad idea really). Everything has its place and it is spotless The students here are serious about their yoga but enjoy a get together after for a spot of herbal tea. Leanne guides her students with a firm but gentle approach. If you are a yoga devotee and enjoy the more spiritual aspects of yoga you may be disappointed: Here there is no chanting, pranayam or even a namaste at the end of class which is unusual: If there was I would certainly give it five stars instead of four. This Studio can be hard to find as it is set back from the road and tucked away upstairs. All in all an excellent strong physical yoga studio without any of the spiritual offerings.

'Tis a crude generalisation to say that only women do yoga. Which is why I won't say it. Nor do I…read morebelieve it. But I know that I most certainly don't do yoga, and that milady does. I've been exercising a lot recently (as I've hit the age where it starts getting a bit tricky to keep in shape), and I wanted to put my increased fitness to the test. Maybe this was the wrong place to do it. Milady hasn't been going here for very long, and though I like to join her in her yoga sessions every now and again, I'd never been to Body in Mind before. It is hardcore. They broke me. I would've done ANYTHING they asked me. I was comPLETEly broke in. I lost my will. I became like an animal. So, for me, it wasn't such a hot experience. But I think if you're really into yoga, you'd appreciate the discipline and talent of the teacher. Just be careful. Roof.

Bikram Yoga... I love it and hate it at the same time. It is the most torturous but fantastic form…read moreof yoga I have ever tried and I highly recommend it to everyone to try. Bikram Yoga is a form of hot yoga, and it goes by that name for good reason. Most people can hardly bear to sit in 40 degree heat let along perform yoga poses in it for one and a half hours. If you can make it through, you will feel so good, not because you had the mental strength to stick with it to the end, but because all the stress you carried during the day in your mind, muscles and bones will be gone. It is a great feeling, but the reward does not come without the effort of bearing the heat. Because they are the place to go to in Adelaide for hot yoga, they aren't the cheapest place to go to per session. However, if you are new and trying it out for the first time, I believe that give you the first week free, so you can come for any and all the classes for that first week, which gives you ample time to decide if it is for you. To go, it's best to wear clothing that is easy to move around in, lets heat through but is secure enough that your bits and pieces don't start falling out while doing the poses during the session. Yoga mats are provided but I recommend getting your own if you plan to go often (its just more hygienic), and you can buy them for cheap in places like Kmart or Big W. Also, it is uber important that you bring a full bottle of room temperature water so you can stay hydrated. You will sweat, and you will sweat alot. They have classes everyday and showers for those who may want to freshen up before heading out to dinner or heading to work if you make it for an early morning session. Highly recommended for anyone who is up for a challenge and wants to really experience one of the best forms of yoga I have ever tried.

If you go at a popular time, you're going to have to shuffle around a bit to find a direct line of sight to the instructor, so minus another star. Finally, while I understand the argument that yoga is an important part of an active athlete's lifestyle, I wasn't totally digging how this place made me feel (hot and sweaty and dying to walk out). Ugh, the inconvenience of bringing your own yoga mats and towel, or buying it there. Minus another star. However, the two ladies behind the counter answered all my questions really well, so I felt (kinda) welcomed. Add one star. What does it all add up to? A generous 3 stars. (One of my friends regularly does yoga to help her relax at the end of a stressful week, so I decided to tried this a couple of times. Yoga certainly does loosen my whole body up! Maybe it's one of those activities where the more you do it, the better it gets?)

I've been going to Your World Fitness since it opened its doors last year…read more It gets an A+++ for appearance. It has to be one of the most glamorous places in SA to go to the gym, complete with chandeliers and works of art adorning the walls. The place is massive and the facilities are state of the art - you never need to fight for a space to exercise. The class times are a bit awkward and don't really suit city workers, who I'd assume would be their biggest clients - so I'd recommend checking that out before you join. I'm hopeful that as they grow they will have more classes (especially yoga!) available. The biggest downfall is parking - unfortunately they have no designated parking and the car park across the road closes at 7pm which doesn't help those of us wanting to train after work. Street parking is the way to go but often difficult - unless you are doing a 6am class. Overall, a great gym and can't wait to see how it improves as time goes by!

We have been incorporating a few crossfit exercises into my training and he has been able to make the training specific to my strenghth building needs that compliments my other activities. The gym boasts lots of great activities such as pilates, gravity yoga and pole conditioning. There is even a cafe on the ground floor with a wide selection of goodies for gym junkies. And if you have children, there are childcare facilities too. I haven't had a problem with carparking before or after hours either.
