Located in downtown Joliet, this is a Greek restaurant conveniently located near the parking garages. There's also a parking lot next to here for closer spots. It's in an old bank. It's cool to see the vintage interior designs. We went in the evening and it was pretty quiet. The staff were extremely friendly. I appreciate that they take a couple of minutes to engage with you in conversation. We got an "appetizer" that was a shot of alcohol. I believe it was called an Aperitif drink. The server said it's a tradition before you start a meal and helps encourage your appetite. It was good. I ordered the lamb burger and fries. It was delcious. It was cooked perfectly with a lot of flavor. I was full after that meal. I had no room for dessert! The prices were reasonable, too. It's a sophisticated yet informal type of restaurant if that makes sense. I don't visit Joliet often, but I would come back and try something else off of the menu. read more

We dined at Mousa before seeing a show at the Rialto. We have been to this location before when it was a steakhouse. The ambience is wonderful. There's a long bar when you first walk in and the dining room is past that. They have a small parking lot in back of the restaurant and the restaurant is right by a large parking garage so there's plenty of parking. Monica was our server and she was friendly and provided good service. The young man who filled our water glasses and cleared our dishes, was on top of everything as well. We were given a complimentary shot of ouzo before starting our meal. It's a licorice tasting alcohol. My husband ordered a glass of Greek wine as well. My husband and I ordered small plates and shared everything. We started with the saganaki, which was served with a plate of pita triangles. It was a very generous size of cheese, but unfortunately it wasn't flamed at the table so it wasn't melty or gooey or sizzling hot. It was warm, but disappointing not to have that wonderful melting cheese. I've never been to a Greek restaurant where they didn't flame the cheese at the table and then douse the flames with fresh lemon. Next, we had the grilled octopus. Again, a very generous portion, and it was presented beautifully. However, as you got into the thicker portion of the octopus, it was very chewy. I had to leave some on the plate after spitting it out because it was rubbery and I couldn't chew through it. At this point in our meal, my husband ordered a second glass of wine which didn't show up until the very end of our dining experience. Monica apologizing for the long wait when it appeared saying there was a new bartender. We also ordered the lamb meatballs. Home run on this small plate. Four small meatballs served on a bed of tzatziki sauce, which is a yogurt cucumber sauce. The meatballs were very flavorful and the creamy sauce added something special to each bite. Since my husband's wine did not show up until we were done with our small plates, we decided to add a dessert while he drank his wine. The Italian lemon cake we ordered for dessert was fabulous. It's a light yellow cake filled with lemon cream and dusted with powdered sugar. Very good! I ordered a cappuccino to go along with dessert, but Monica came back saying that they couldn't make it because they were out of milk. How does a restaurant not have milk in their refrigerator? The restaurant just opened for business at the dinner hour so it wasn't like they were opened all day and ran out. Mousa is popular, every table was filled and the reviews from others are good. We came here because of the good reviews. Maybe it was just an off night for us, but the chewy octopus, not flaming the cheese at the table so it's sizzling hot and melting, and not having any milk on hand for a cappuccino two hours after opening your doors won't bring us back. It's too bad because it's a half a block away from the Rialto and so convenient. I can't recommend this restaurant, but give it a try because others have rated it highly. Cozy, modern bar/restaurant with delicious greek food. We sat at the bar and the server/bartender was friendly but she was spent most of her time talking to the other patrons at the bar and we were left waiting around for service. She also did not know information about certain drinks on the menu that we inquired about. Despite that and the hummus, the seafood aegean grill plate was fresh, tender pieces of seafood and the chicken dish we also got were delicious and well made. Service was great as soon as we walked into the door. It seemed a little dead for Friday night. First of all, they have fun craft cocktails. (They also have a decent size wine and soft drink list). I had the Hebe and it was tasty. Menu had a great variety. I had the lamb meatballs entree. The meatballs were great. The red sauce they were served on was only ok. It is originally offered with rice, but I opted for the Greek potatoes. They were only ok. I had a bite of my fiance's fries with the feta. Those were tasty!! Service was 5/5. Drove into Joliet for a concert at The Forge. Had an hour to kill so chose this place because it was the nearest option that was still open. I didn't know this would be such a serendipitous choice. This was some of the best food i've had in a long time. The lamb patties were grilled to perfection and beautifully accompanied by rice. My partner got the gyro platter and it was such a delight to have such superb, fresh and moist meat. Everything was seasoned well. Even the fries were carefully created. Even more impressively, all this food came out quickly. The high-end ambiance definitely elevated the meal, yet I felt the prices were very fair for the amount and quality and food we got. We recently visited Crete and were missing Greek cuisine. I heard about this restaurant in Joliet so I was excited to try it. When we walked in , I immediately recognized that I had been here before at least 15 yrs ago under a different name. We were greeted with smiles and warmth and the ambience was beautiful. It's a perfect place to get dressed up for a special occasions or just dress casual. Everything we tried on the menu was delicious and the presentation was fabulous. Was served cold food, super chewy calamari, and overall a lack of excitement and effort at Mousa on a Saturday night. We ordered Moussaka and a Gyro plate with the upgrade for Greek Fries. The Moussaka was not good, and not at all warm or hot. It felt like they had a frozen pan of this from Costco, and cut out a portion and heated it up in the microwave. For a Greek restaurant, I would think they would have a spit where they slice the Gyro from, I don't think that is the case. The gyro meat was ok, but again it looked and tasted like pre-bought gyro meat you would get from a warehouse club and just heated it up. Finally the other disappointment was the greek frys. Usually they are mixed in a bowl with some olive oil, seasoning, and feta. These were fry's with a few chunks of feta. The whole meal just seemed lazy, and right out of the freezer into the microwave. Will not be going back to Mousa. read more

Always great service and fantastic food! If you like Greek food, you'll love Mousa! We've loved everything we've tried but our favorite is the salmon and green beans. I've never had green beans that were so delicious. I'm a sucker for anything vintage but this place has lots of character, including the original stained glass windows and gates from the vault of the bank next door. Say hi to Sophia! Four of us went to Mousa prior to a show at the Rialto. We had hummus, bacon wrapped dates, calamari, shrimp and two kinds of paella. All of the food was delicious. Our server, Naomi, was very polite and extremely knowledgeable about menu options for food and drinks. We appreciated her suggestions, and found them to be spot on! Chef Bobby seated us and introduced himself and indicated that we should speak to him if anything wasn't just right, and he would take care of it! He came around later and asked how our meal was. We arrived just as they opened for business and we're not able to get seated, so make reservations in advance especially on a Saturday. The environment is clean and lively,very welcoming. We did manage to get seats at the bar. The service was prompt and efficient. My wife ordered the chicken kabobs and was pleased with the meal. I ordered the lamb chops and was very pleasantly surprised by what I got. I anticipated a a small plate with a couple of chops but got a large plate heaping high with beautifully grilled lamb chops and a delightful side of well seasoned Greek rice. the worst experience on Mother's Day! don't waste your time or money. we ordered 2 dirty martinis. straight vodka with moldy olives. we had to ask for bread and butter . server came with a 2 inch what I would call a hockey puck!!! I ordered the shrimp. the crostini was also hockey pucks!!! totally inedible! talked to owner. she said they were changing the menu entirely on Thursday. I told her we may come back but are leaving. the server came out one last time to inform us the owner was making us octopus!!!!! wth we don't eat and asked for nothing. left and went elsewhere !!!! don't bother with this place.
