Arvin answered our removal and pre roof prep questions. The onsite crew was polite and courteous the entire time on site. There was a sudden shower hiccup while installing the new shingles but they followed up and handled it. A longer shingle warranty was chosen and shingled product photos the project mgr took upon finished inspection...speak for them selves, I noted 2 areas where they added extra edge flashing that wasn't in the contract, but no charge. They quoted 3 old layers removal but there was an old 4th layer underneath. That added removal and dump charge weight was detailed & noted. The fellas at Goodvan's do good service work and follow up. I will be referring them for future roofing work.

I went to check and make sure that everything was completed as promised and noticed that the flashing around the chimney did not look good. My husband called Kurt who took a while to return his call and told my husband that he did not get the pictures we sent. Kurt told my husband that they don't include masonary flashing in the quote even though the quote says flashing is included and does not say that masonary (chimney) flashing is excluded. My husband was then referred to the owner. The owner confirmed that the masonary flashing is not included but said they would fix it. He also mentioned that myself or my mother had referred to the house as a tear down and that my mother would likely only live in the house for another 5 years at most. We showed the pictures to another roofing company that confirmed the roof would leak the way the flashing was left. Someone came by and did some work on the roof, they did not let my mother know they were there. They came by more then once to complete the work but it still did not seem to be done as well as we felt it should be. The solar panel installation was halted. I contacted several roofing companies to get assessments on the issue and obtain estimates. It turns out one side of the roof did not have adequate venting and moisture was being absorbed by the plywood. I met with several roofing company representatives and each provided their suggested way to address the issue...and the estimated costs were all over the map. But when I met with the Absolute Roof Solutions sales representative...I knew I had found the right company. They explained what the issue was, how they would address it and the next steps. They followed with a quote and then a follow up conversation with the Project Manager. They picked a date that was to be rain free. The crew showed up on time and they went about their work. (See updated addendum at the bottom) Earlier this year, I was the victim of a serious security breach involving Cooper Roofing's email system. As a result, I received fraudulent payment instructions that appeared to come from them. Based on the information available, the breach likely resulted from weak protection measures and inadequate cybersecurity training, although I can't be certain -- Cooper's declined to provide the details I requested to properly assess the situation. The breach went undetected for weeks until I brought it to their attention. Beyond that incident, my experience overall was extremely poor. Despite confusion around the payment instructions, the project manager assured me that work would begin on a specific date, so I moved my wife and small child out of the house in anticipation. But without any warning, no work was ever started. My wife was also treated rudely on the phone when we tried to clarify what had happened with the missing deposit, which added unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation. After the breach, Cooper's remained evasive and never called to offer an apology or explanation for what had happened. In my personal opinion, this company demonstrated a lack of professionalism, poor communication, and a concerning approach to customer service and data security. Based on my experience, I would not recommend them. ADDENDUM: For clarity, the Provincial Court of British Columbia (Small Claims) heard the full evidence on March 11, 2026 and ruled 100% in my favour. The Adjudicator's exact conclusion was: "Because the fraud originated from the Defendant's emails being compromised, the Defendant is responsible to pay the Claimant the amount of the loss." Judgment was awarded for the full $8,435.83 (principal + costs) with immediate payment ordered. The court did not accept the timeline or "warning signs" argument presented by Cooper Roofing. Payment of the remaining balance is still outstanding and enforcement proceedings are now underway. The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner also substantiated my complaint, finding that Cooper Roofing failed to implement reasonable security measures, including MFA and employee training."
