The quality of care was not given as well! We were told my grandmother would get bathed every day and she was reviving baths once a week. She had to move rooms due to an issue with her room and while "they moved her" they broke her chair, her tv, and jewelry ended up missed included two diamonds out of her wedding band. When addressed with a manager, she avoided and wouldn't call back or participate in a conference call with family to get answers. Gifts that were sent there were never delivered, or were offended delivered 5-10 days after arriving. I live out of state and had to fly out there to make sure that the items delivered were delivered correctly. When Walmart orders for her were delivered, they were being opened and items were missing! The "leadership" there is a joke and dips and dodges all responsibility and will not have any conversation if it's the tiny bit uncomfortable. The "people running the place" are all about money and are farming as many elderly people as they can to make as much money as they can! They take no accountability, no ownership, and clearly do not have any leadership or management ability to speak to people, or have actual conversations. This place was horrible and I wouldn't send my worst enemy to this hell hole!

Upon move in, Sunrise literally rolled out a red carpet for my grandparents and cared for them as if they were celebrities throughout the remaining months of their lives. It was a true treat for them, but even more significant to us - the joy that radiated within my grandparents is something we hadn't seen in some time! My grandfather literally referred to the facility as "opulent and extravagant"; he felt like he was on eternal vacation. We chose Sunrise as they had memory care, which would allow my grandparents to stay together as my grandfathers dementia progressed. Unfortunately, my grandparents passed sooner than we anticipated, but in the 5 months we spent with Sunrise we established lasting connections. My family and I will be forever indebted to each of the talented and caring staff that loved my grandparents like family.

The staff went through extraordinary measures to make this happen in 24 hours. Unfortunately and unbeknownst to me she needed much more acute care but wow, everyone at Sunrise went through a huge effort to help my mom and the residents seemed very happy. It's unfortunate there's so few reviews but this is definitely the best place I've seen and I've seen plenty. I cannot recommend more.

When the hospital told us they didn't have an oxygen tank available for her discharge, Thomas came to the rescue and even let us borrow one. The team, including their customer service line, was quick, helpful, and incredibly supportive. I highly recommend this company for their outstanding care and dedication. They have been over charging me since day one. They actually had the nerve to send me a threatening text only 3 days after my first bill was posted. The ultimate finger was given to me today when I tried paying through their EPAY system and my card was declined. I then contacted customer support to update my credit card info. Gave him my CC info and he charged my account for more than was due! This was after telling him I DO NOT want to pay for this charge at this time. I will be contacting my health care provider and insurance company to see what I can do. I may just box their system up and drop it off in Oceanside. They are the WORST healthcare outfit I have dealt with in 58 years! You have been warned.

After serving as my Mom's primary caregiver for 11 years, I spent two years personally checking…read moredozens of local North County senior residential care homes for my 90 year old mother, who suffers from advanced Alzheimer's and Dementia. Most are OK, not great. The larger facilities are too hotel-ish and very costly. A few were terrible. I reported THE MANSE in Vista to the state for elder abuse, and ultimately they were given a only minor warning. Avoid that house of horrors at all costs! After putting Mom's name on a list at Blue Skies I decided to call Lauren back to see if they had an opening. Fortunately for us, she had an opening and so in February of 2014 we moved Mom into their Oceanside facility. They have two large 6 room/bed homes, one in Oceanside and the other in San Marcos. Both are big beautiful homes with lovely yards and gardens. Mom's care there has been wonderful, as Lauren and her staff treat each resident as if they are family, with lots of TLC, activities, and personal care. Staffing levels are plentiful, with a 2-3 staffing contingent for the six residents at each place 24/7. Amazingly, their price in very middle-of-the-road and well worth the services and facilities provided with delicious hot meals 3X daily, and plenty of snacks and drinks. Their loving, caring attitude is priceless! If you are seeking a wonderful home-like "family" atmosphere for an elder loved one, you will not find a nicer, more accommodating place in the area for ANY price. I know this as I checked most of them personally and can attest to this fact. So if you need some help with a loved one getting on in years, or needing help with daily living activities, do yourself a favor and call Lauren and get on their list right away. You will thank yourself as I do every single day. Yes, there is a list but they do have turnover due to the advanced aged of many of their residents.

The management team is easily swayed by the emotional taunts of family members who are thousands of miles away rather than relatives who live with and have cared for their loved one for years. I have written at least 5 reviews for this business over the years, some of them are listed under…read morethe previous name (Emeritus). I always held something back for fear of retaliation. Brookdale is a conniving business. After my father's passing I can speak more candidly, so here I go. I must dilute my description of the executive director because words can not describe her. At first glance she seems inert, but when she is in attack mode she becomes a dragon. Imagine a heinous woman whose gaze is enough to shock a person into a panic with a voice that makes the hairs up and down your spine stick out like razor blades in a defense. Now multiply that by 10 and you can imagine this woman. My father moved to this facility many years ago and signed a contract that had annual cost increases fixed at 5% and a maximum care level that was within his budget. He bought his monthly fee down by paying a large up-front fee with the intention to live the rest of his like there. More on that to come... Over the years we have had a personal caregiver onsite at least every other day and have witnessed how the residents are treated and the way that they do business. During this time I have seen so many unprofessional things happen to list including: lack of respect for a patient's dignity, failure to comply with HIPPA rules, organized attempts to falsify investigations by the health department, staff losing his medical directive forms, and other devious tricks. Never in my wildest dreams could I anticipate all of the challenges we had to endure, but their final act was reprehensible. On May 26, the day my father passed, the executive staff called my brother and told him that my father had died of choking, a horrible end which caused grief for our family. We eventually found out that they made up the story and that he passed peacefully and quickly after talking to the nurse on duty. I can not imagine any reason that they would fabricate such an awful story which caused pain on so many levels. After a few years of living at this facility my dad began packing on weight. We asked them to feed him a 2,000 calorie diet but they said that they offer residents a variety of food and they must make their own choices. The menu includes high calorie options like Denver Omelettes for breakfast, huge lunches complete with dessert and another full meal with dessert at dinner to people who are unable to manage their lives. I finally had his physician write up a prescription for a healthy diet but he still kept packing on pounds and there was nothing that I could do to get them to control his caloric intake. One of the numerous incidences that our family calls poopy pants occurred a few years ago. When our caregiver showed up and he was sitting in a pile of his own filth. She requested that they change his clothes and discovered that they had merely changed the outer layer of clothing and left his soiled underwear on. Another similar incident occurred on a Sunday after he soiled himself and our caregiver requested a change of clothes and a shower. The caregivers flat out refused to bathe him stating that he can only be bathed on pre-scheduled days and he would just have to wait in his feces. I made a huge "stink" about this incident and asked for documentation. They flat out refused to document this in their records and essentially gave the employee a vague form to sign stating that respect for people's dignity was important. I was tasked with keeping a large stock of gloves, towelettes, and personal hygiene items. The alternative is to buy these items at a huge markup from Brookdale, they like to make a profit on every item people use. Brookdale charges for medication management and will only buy them at Vitas, a company that sells blister packs of medication and does not accept insurance. They refuse to order medications through insurance so be prepared to pay street prices. We submitted some complaints to the health department but learned that they get advance notice when a visit is imminent. The entire staff has a procedure to go through everyone's rooms and all common areas and cleanup all of the things that are not allowed which I think should be illegal. They also gave me a stack of another patient's confidential medical records one time violating HIPPA laws. After Brookdale took over the Emeritus facility they completely changed the business model and the personal care rates nearly tripled from what we signed up for. My father was being released from a three month stint in the hospital and being transferred to a hospice program onsite. The wicked executive director threatened to kick my father out of his death bed if we did not sign a new contract agreeing to an excessive new fee structure. That woman has a heart of stone and cares much more for her performance statistics than the well being of her patients. If you are in the market for elder care I hope that you read my review and find a better place for your loved one.
