I have been making ongoing harassment complaints about Tony Morales, the porter onsite, since 2022, and none of these complaints have been documented anywhere outside my personal file. Tony approaches my car any time he thinks no one is looking, and my car gets more damage in this parking lot than when I lived in West Oakland, or Potrero Hill. Keep all your communication with Sequoia Equities in writing. Start organizing those emails with an Index and summaries, because you will want to be organized when you file complaints with BBB, FTC, and DRE. Residents are not this company's clients; investors are. Residents have no value to the staff of this company, and they will treat you that way. Their job is the real estate and investors. The residents might as well be fertilizer. $30,000 a year in rent is not worth following DRE rules to this organization. But sure, the real estate is in the best condition it's been in for years. Another thing: Renewing your lease. They have an automated system that asks you to renew your lease without viewing the new lease, by just clicking a button in your resident portal. In California they cannot force you to sign a new lease, but three people from this organization pressured me to sign a new lease that would not have been in my best interest. By the way, they sent me this "rent renewal" the day after I complained to their staff. Bypass the drama and go straight the regulatory agencies to avoid retaliation.

I would strongly caution anyone considering living at this apartment complex. My experience here…read morewas extremely frustrating, unprofessional, and honestly felt dishonest from start to finish. The management and office staff were incredibly difficult to deal with and consistently avoided accountability. One of the biggest issues was the security deposit. They advertise it as a "refundable deposit," but then tack on a so-called "nonrefundable cleaning fee" regardless of whether you leave the apartment spotless or clean it yourself. I specifically asked THREE separate times for a copy of the rental agreement or documentation that clearly stated this policy, and they refused to provide it every single time. That alone says a lot. Maintenance issues were another nightmare. My washer and dryer were broken for THREE MONTHS, and despite multiple requests and follow-ups, management offered no urgency, no temporary solution, no compensation, and barely any communication. For an apartment complex charging the amount they do, that level of neglect is unacceptable. What bothered me even more was how they handled serious property issues. I personally have video evidence of staff painting over what appeared to be mold stains instead of properly addressing the problem. Covering up potential mold with paint instead of professionally treating it is irresponsible and concerning, especially for tenants' health and safety. Overall, the staff and management came across as disorganized, dismissive, and more focused on keeping tenants' money than actually helping residents. Communication was poor, promises were rarely followed through on, and every issue became unnecessarily difficult. I rarely leave negative reviews, but people deserve to know what they may be walking into before signing a lease here. Save yourself the stress, document EVERYTHING, and think twice before renting from this complex.

He was a true treasure to this company and it is so sad to see him go. Also not very happy that our rent has gone up $100+ from last year. Not sure what is going on but I hope they don't raise it too much by the time we renew our lease again because $2600 is A LOT for a 1 bedroom apartment already.

Hello There, I just…read morewanted to share how incredibly positive my experience was while living at Martinez Hillside Apartments. My apartment itself felt like a perfect little home, with a great view looking outside my windows. One of the biggest attractions for me, and something I deeply valued, was that it's a 55+ senior living community. It really fosters such a wonderful, friendly, and peaceful environment that just felt right. And I absolutely have to give a special mention to Franklin, the manager! He is just so professional and genuinely dedicated. You can tell he takes immense pride in ensuring the entire property is always sparkling clean and meticulously cared for. He consistently goes above and beyond to make sure every single apartment looks fantastic and that the grounds are kept in top-notch condition. Beyond the aesthetics, what truly gave me peace of mind was the sense of security. I always felt completely safe and comfortable, especially at night, knowing I was secure behind locked doors. That feeling of safety really contributed to a truly stress-free and enjoyable living situation. All in all, it was a truly happy chapter, and I genuinely loved my time there! Thank you! Katherine M

This review is long overdue, and I truly hope people take the time to read it…read more My husband and I moved here in December, and to this day we still pinch ourselves because of the difference living here has made in our lives. We literally look at each other every day with big smiles and say, "We love our new home." Before this, we lived in Pleasant Hill and spent a LOT of time searching for a bigger apartment that was still within a reasonable price range. It honestly felt discouraging at times--either the management was unresponsive, rude, or the places just didn't feel right. Then we found this place... and we truly couldn't believe it. First of all, Angela, the manager, is AH-MAAAZING!! --we literally call her our angel. From the very beginning, she was so warm, helpful, and easy to work with during the tour and application process. But what really makes her stand out is how much she genuinely cares--not just about the property, but about the people who live here. That kind of management is rare. And I don't say that lightly. At our previous place, we dealt with extremely poor and neglectful management--so much so that it actually put our safety at risk. And at other properties we toured, the managers were so rude that it made us think, "Is this what it would be like dealing with you regularly?" Hard pass. Living here has been the complete opposite. If you're someone who values peace and quiet, friendly neighbors who actually say hello back, a dependable maintenance team, and a manager you can truly count on--this is your place. It's a drama-free, respectful community, and that makes all the difference. I promise you, you won't regret it. OH! Btw, the apartments do look like exactly like the photos online.
