This owner is a scam, $3.99 for fun size nerds. When confronted, he said it was a king size, it's cool. We can get 4/5 at Vons. His jokes aren't funny, he rushed me and behind me was a client wanting a particular alcohol, he said "if you don't buy the best I'm gonna kick you out", it wasn't funny. He was either on drugs or drunk. Him and his fake teeth can kick rocks. read more

I'm kicking myself for going into mountaintop liquor today I knew they had a reputation for being expensive but it's incredible that they would charge me $30 for a bottle of premixed margaritas that cost me $10 at a grocery store. I would expect maybe would be twice as much as the grocery store but not three times. I really don't like stores that do not mark their items with prices I feel that this is very unfair to the customer to constantly ask the clerk how Much this or that item costs. Painfully expensive really crappy that they rip off people like there's no wonder they only have two stars should've Chatfield before I went in today stay away bring your own booze up to the mountain or go someplace else. read more

The mark ups are scary high here, it's important to not go here. There are possibly a few things in here you can't find at Village Mkt across the street, Fairway, Shell or Pine Cove Market -- but you can live without those things because you may be charged double or more than what the other stores in town charge & the other stores in town already are marked up for being on a mountain. read more

Bought a 6pack here yesterday, it was 2 years out of date! (See pic attached) I brought it right back and they refused to refund me, pointing to a hand written sign saying it was illegal to refund for alcohol. Well I'm pretty sure it's illegal to sell out of date products. They offered to exchange it for a cheaper 6pack, but wouldn't pay me the difference, but if I chose a more expensive 6pack I had to pay the difference. Such a con. Stay away from these crooks. Pre-mixed Margarita Mix + Tank Top + Sun = Fun and Sun Burn Went camping in Idyllwild last week... well our city dogs decided that hiking was NOT on their things to do list. We decided to hit the local beverage establishment and just relax with drinks at our camp site. The place is a bit of a dive and the prices are a little steep, but they have what you need and the next town is like 30 minutes away. No prices marked on any of the beer. Need to ask for a price for each type. First one I asked about was a six pack that usually sells for $8-10 at other stores but was $14 here. Tried purchasing something here two weeks prior but there was a line to the back of the store and the one person working didn't seem to care enough to get behind the counter and ring people up. Wow! These guys are really dishonest. They had a 5-year aged tequila that they were selling in a black heart shaped bottle. We'd seen the bottle only once before and we enjoy collecting rare Mexican tequilas and bottles. The guy sold us the bottle for $300 with $50 off. When we got it home we realized the seal had been cracked open and probably emptied of the original tequila. And, then we saw the bottle retail online for $140. Double rooked! I guess small towns have their crooked businesses too. Such a drag. Go find your weekend beverages elsewhere. read more

Is there a ZERO rating? I rarely, if ever, leave a bad rating, but Mountain Top Liquor certainly deserves one. I stopped by on 8-29-16 to grab a couple bottles of Yellow Tail wine (the small ones - 750ml) and a bottle of water. The gal rang me up for $35.00. She told me there was no error in the price. Indeed, a $4-$8 bottle of wine was going for $15.00 at Mountain Top Liquor. I thought she might have been taking advantage of tourists, but was told by a local merchant that they treat everyone the same, so my hat's off to them for that. If you need a bottle of wine or some beer, walk across the street to the general store, or check out the supermarket. read more

This is a wonderful store if you like exotic spirits. So many great beers, wines and mixers. There is a lovely mini humidor room that makes the whole place smell delicious. Imagine a tiny version of a Beverages & More. Expect to pay enormously high prices for EVERYTHING. I went in for some moderately priced Cabernet. There's swill, then you jump to $14.99, and then, THE SKY'S THE LIMIT! $$$$$ There were three staff members there: 1. A seasoned woman with a patterned kerchief on who's countenance made me wonder if someone just force-fed her a bowl of diarrhea? 2. A 20-something man slouched behind the counter who apparently expended all his energy applying copious amounts of hair gel. 3. A medium-aged cashier that was moderately helpful. Unconscionable behavior during a power outage. I went into this store during a power outage that lasted for more than a day because of the high winds. Do not go here. The prices of their alcohol is outrageous. A bottle I can get in the desert for like $8.00 is $17.00 here. They cater to tourists and they make you pay! Better bet go across the street to Idyllwild Village Market. It's still not cheap but much less than Mountain Top. read more

BEWARE! We come up to Idyllwild Pine Cove 4 or 5 times a month. Went in just to see and check prices. Wow, this place is outlandish and a true rip-off to locals and visitors. There is a bottle of wine we like and we get it in the Coachella Valley for anywhere from $6.49-$7.99. That same bottle was $18.99 at Mountain Top almost triple in price. As well looked at all there hard alcohol and most where anywhere from $10-$30 more than what you pay elsewhere. What I discovered is the gas stations outside of town one in Pine Cove and the other south offer smaller selections but much better prices for wine and spirits. Will never return! read more

I liked this place. went here each night I was in town for something or another. Wine, booze, popcorn, etc. It is the only place open past 8 pm or so, and also has actual booze instead of all the beer and wine licenses up there, so it's a bit of a hang out. read more
