Very nice open and clean market. Seemed to have done specially higher end items. A bit expensive but that's to be expected.

We're camping and came in for some goodies to cook over our campfire. We asked if they had any pre made kebabs and they didn't but immediately offered to make us some on the spot. Good in a pinch. You don't have much of a choice of grocery stores when you're in the Ouray/Ridgeway area. The prices are X2 of what you're used to paying. I sure hope that they offer a resident discount and just sticking it to us tourists. Otherwise I have no idea how the locals can survive on these prices. The store itself is the basics with a small produce area. Like I said, it's good in a pinch. I highly recommend doing your large shopping in Montrose and then use this place for small things here and there. The tough part for me is that I do support local business when I can. When in need of a market, Mountain Market Stores in Ridgeway came in handy on many an occasion. I found everything I needed. even things I did not need. The prices may be a little high, but that is the cost of doing business in the high country. I found the grocer selection excellent, if a little snobbish and elitist. The staff were a fun bunch to talk with. Mountain people are fun! I know because I am one. My people yo! The dazed customers fondling the fruits and vegetables made me shake my head and laugh out loud. This is a great place to go to get everything you need, especially if one is cooking on a campfire or cooking in general. We stopped in to this grocery with one mission in mind: purchase a light and healthy lunch to fuel us down the road. For starters, a very fitting and pretty exterior given the surroundings. I would agree with the other reviews that this is like a mini Whole Foods minus the creative deli items (womp womp). We did, however, find a roast beef sandwich on rye bread, local drinkable yogurt by Maple Creamery, zucchini, and potato salad from the deli. I would probably give this business 5 stars if the deli options expanded to include lighter options like quoinoa and salads with greens at the core. Good for: people who spell Ridgway like this: Ridgeway. Vegetarians who don't mind spending $6 on a tiny bunch of kale or $1-3 per cucumber (the owners change the price of items depending on their mood) Bubbly water. Really ugly greeting cards. Dying flowers. $22 almond butter. Bad for: budgets, meat eaters, single parents, last minute meal plans (it's cheaper to go out for dinner) You can absolutely count on spending $50 per full grocery bag. If you can, shop at Duckett's. The produce is not nearly as high quality BUT they do have a better variety and the prices are definitely cheaper and they have a fantastic meat selection. The staff is great so my review is based strictly on prices. I live between Ridgway & Ouray. Ouray has a full grocery store but the selection is larger at Mountain Market (MM) but so are their prices. In Ouray, the oat bread I like is $3.50 which is 49 cents cheaper than the major grocery store in Montrose. At Mountain Market, the same loaf is $4.99 or another multigrain at $5.99. Some basic FOOD CLUB brand 48 oz. ice cream at #Ducketts in Ouray & store brand at Mountain Market is $5.99 : OUCH! The 24 oz or larger tub of organic yogurt I like is $3.99 at Ducketts & $5.99 at what the locals call " #MountainMarkup ". There're many other things I've priced between the 2 & Mountain Market is ALWAYS more,usually 25% more but up to 200% more (Chili Powder $1.99 compared to $3.99) & small items + produce. Refrigerated pie crust in a box to unfold is $3.99 at Ducketts & $5.99 at Mountian Market in Ridgway). Ducketts was out so when we went to Christmas Eve in Ridgway, I went to MM & decided NOT to buy (made my own with 100% butter for $1.50). If I need something while in Ridgway, I go to #FamilyDollar where working people can afford bread, lunch meat, chips, cookies, milk & spices or canned goods. In winter, except on weekends, I cannot go to Montrose 27 miles away & get back before night,having to risk frozen roads/mule deer. I can do major shopping in Montrose every couple of weeks & when I need fresh meat, bacon, syrup & produce, I have no problem getting basics at #Ducketts & even a cup of soup or popsicles. I'd rather do without than pay the exorbitant prices at Mountain Market. We have Telluride type friends who don't know or care what food costs so they are happy with the items available & don't care that the prices are 25% to 200% above Ducketts. I'm not comparing MM to major grocery stores in Montrose(Safeway/City Market) because independents & small town grocers have higher overhead. But it's interesting that the oat bread is 49 cents cheaper at Ducketts in Ouray than City Market in Montrose so clearly there are items even rural, grocery stores can take less profit on IF they choose. Everybody knows to get your gasoline & necessities BEFORE driving to Telluride. The grocery store in Mountain Village Ski Area is also run by the same folks. My friend from TX moved to Telluride for his wife's good job w/ benefits but still works in Ouray. He buys their essentials : MIlk, Diapers, Bread, Produce, Eggs, Cereal & Dairy at Ducketts at lunch or after work & keeps them in the truck in an ice chest to save $25 a week from the Telluride Mountain Village Grocery which apparently charges even more than its Ridgway store. So if you are flying in to stay at your $4 million dollar Telluride Home or your $700K condo, you won't mind prices at Mountain Market because you are all about convenience getting to the slopes. The store is clean, staff friendly & you can get organic produce & dairy items plus dried Red Currants. But, if you drive off the highway to save 8 cents a gallon on gas & are fine with just Raisins instead of Currants,then you might not enjoy the prices at MM. It's great to have the store nearby in a snow storm like we've been having this Winter Break & I find the convenience worth SOME higher costs but when I get can get most everything at Ducketts in Ouray(10 Minute drive to either Ducketts or Ridgway's Mountain Market) for $1.50 less than the $4.99 or $5.99 price (not the same as cost) at Mountain Market for the same driving time, then it's a no-brainer. It's fine if someone ONLY eats organic (I'd like to but cannot afford the whole organic route) & has the coin to do so but for most of the working or even retired folks, Mountain Market's prices are just too expensive even on non-organic basics like bread, cake mixes ($1.50 to $2.00 more each at Mountain Market), milk, etc. If you can get a roasted whole chicken in Montrose for $6.99 & a pizza ready to bake for the same, people change their menu when the same item is $9.99 or more at Mountain Market. Maybe MM doesn't want the business of working class families or just judges people who cannot easily afford an extra $1 or $2 on every food item (more on prepared Deli food) . My husband was a medical professional & made a good income. We saved money for him to retire here & watch our money to NOT have to go back to work. I could buy their over priced food if I wanted but why?!? I have the option to splurge & disregard prices but many families don't. The money they overpay to MM means some other part of the budget is squeezed out which is doubly rough in the holidays. I want business owners to make a good living for the investment & risk, but MM prices are so out of line for even rural independent grocers, in some states their prices might legally actionable as gouging under real estate tenant agreements. Stay away from the deli. Waaaay overpriced. $8 for a heat lamp breakfast burrito??? Food that looks half way enticing actually tastes awful. That goes double for the all-show-no-go bakery items they have. It may look like a donut but it doesnt taste like one. Grocery prices are also hugely overinflated. Get ready to spend $7 fox a small box of cereal... You are better off shopping at Family Dollar across town and eating at the Conoco station. Staff is very friendly though! read more

This used to be the best little store 30 years ago. Now it is a pretentious hobby for someone. The locals call it Mountain Markup and rightly so. We ran out of coffee and I dropped in to pick some up. Decided on the Folgers which 12oz was about $7.50. The Donut Shop coffee was about $12.99 for 12oz. Crazy. I will shop at Duckets in Ouray instead. The prices are reasonable for a small store and its got character and charm. read more

Rip Off! I get that you can expect to pay higher prices in the middle of no where, that's not what this is about. I got a bunch of items from the deli, basically paid 50 bucks for sandwiches and salads. When I got the beet salad it was literally all juice, I paid ten bucks for beet juice! Wtf!!! The sandwich vegetables were old and going bad!!! Skip the crappy deli and go to the gas station! This store overcharges for most things. On top of that, the prices marked on the shelf often are different than the price that rings up on the register, with the register price being more (so be careful). When I have pointed out the price discrepancy, the cashier does not appear to care, and simply says something like "oh, the price on the shelf must be wrong". No effort to try to correct the price. If there was any competition in this town, I would never visit this overprices market again. Here hoping someone like City Market comes in. read more

It is expensive but for the remote area, between gas and what they must have to toss I understand. We stocked up for not only our campsite, but for the road. I saw a gentleman stocking the shelves and asked him where the beer section was. He paused briefly and said to me in a very smug tone "It's down the street". I would not shop here ever again. The store manager "Denean" is rude and insluted me for not being able to find something. The prices are very high too. The food in the Deli was horrible. My partner had the ribs that were supposedly smoked out front in the smoker. They were dry, overcooked, and had what tasted like a gebereic sauce on them. I had chicken that I was told was fresh out of the oven same thing burnt and dry. We decided to be fair and give it one last try the next morning for breakfast. I had a breakfast sandwich that tasted like it had been made a day or two before and the egg seemed like it was baked. My partner went with the bacon buritto and no luck. Burnt potatoes and eggs and tons of grease seeping through. When I told the manager she said if you don't like the food there are other options in town. So for the next 5 days there we took her advise. That was the most helpful thing she said. read more
