This alpine hut is in one of the most picturesque and dramatic alpine settings you can imagine…read more The 2 hour hike to get to the hut was one of the most beautiful hikes we have ever been on--waterfalls everywhere, green, lush foliage along steep cliffs overlooking the town of Grindelwald below, groups of black and white sheep grazing on the mountainsides, four peaks of over 4000 meters looming above you... when you get close to the hut, you then have a gigantic glacier that appears to be moving down the mountain right to you. It's indescribably in words. The nice Swiss couple who run the hut are very helpful and maintain a very orderly and clean atmosphere (observe the rules!). Dorm-type room was simple but cozy--bring a sleeping bag liner sheet. Dinner was delicious, too. Highly recommend! If you are fit, love to hike, like be away from it all (no Wifi here) and love amazing mountain scenery, this is the place for you.

Five Stars is in the context of a traditional Swiss German Restaurant…read more Ambiance, a 10. The place is frozen in the late 1800's with a few updates like an exposed knob and tube electrical system, at least for the dining room lighting. The wait staff are dressed in traditional Haut Valais garb but unlike many places where the outfits seem too theatrical, here they just seem to naturally blend with the place and the aromas of traditional Swiss fare wafting from the kitchen and every table. If you have never eaten a Swiss rösti you must have it here because it is perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious. Once tried you will have your rösti benchmark from which to criticize all others. The meat dishes we ordered, veal, sliced cured local ham, calf's liver, were all delicious with a clean taste that told of locally raised stock. We were driving back to the Goppenstien from Zurich Airport with some tired travelers so we didn't stay for desert but what I saw looked like another trip to Reichenbach would soon be necessary.

We felt at home. The owners live upstairs. Hot water & heating were not problems. Things were modern but had character. Food was very good - a great variety of Swiss breakfast items. The location is very very close to the train station, center of town & the bus - none more than a few minutes walk & a 30 second sprint if you wanted to run. Stepping out from here, you have great views. Putting it all together, we would stay here again. It was quiet as well but not far from the hustle & bustle, given it is just off the main street. The 2 rooms upstairs have a shared bathroom, so be sure you know what you are getting.

After a moderate mountainside hike from Mürren we followed the signs, little yellow ones that mimic the Swiss hiking signs, to Pension. As soon as you step into the back patio you are blown away at the setting. For us (mid-September) the plants were lush, the sun was shinning, and the temps were perfect - all made for an incredible time. Find yourself a little table and grab a brew from the bar inside (which in-and-of itself was fantastically old school tavern/inn). If you're hungry they have brats and kraut served outside. Wonderful! Order a beer, pay in cash (trust me, it just feels more fun), and enjoy a beer in the perfect spot in Jungfraur region.

The b&b is located about a 10 minute walk from the Murren train station. Additionally, there is a Coop grocery store right across the street, which was super convenient! The rooms were spacious and the beds were comfortable! There is a sink in the room, which is nice, and shared bathrooms outside. The bathrooms, room, and dining area were all exceptionally clean. Lastly, the view from the room is just surreal! Then there is Denise, the lovely owner of the b&b. Denise was fluent in English (originally from England) which made communications a breeze. She set up an absolutely beautiful complimentary breakfast each morning with fresh baked bread, cheese, hard boiled eggs and other pastries/fruit. She is also extremely knowledgeable regarding the area and recommended an absolutely gorgeous hike for us to do on our first day that I didn't come across in my research I did beforehand. She also recommended that we take the opportunity to hike down from the Schilthorn back to Murren, and we were so so glad we did. Overall, the b&b itself was already exceptional, but Denise really put it over the top and helped us take full advantage of the few days we spent in Murren. I can't recommend this place enough!

The breakfast buffet was genuinely excellent and was easily the best part of the stay. Unfortunately, that's where the compliments end. The staff were about as warm and comforting as a splinter under a toenail. Every interaction felt like we were inconveniencing them simply by being guests. Hospitality should make you feel welcome; here, it felt like they couldn't wait for us to leave. As for Wengen itself, it's undeniably beautiful. The mountain scenery is spectacular. But beneath the postcard views is an overcrowded, overpriced destination packed with tourists. After experiencing it firsthand, I don't understand the hype. Between the inflated prices and the lackluster service, it's simply not a place I'd spend my money on again. The scenery earns five stars. The overall experience does not. I won't be returning.

The bus stops right in front of the hostel, and very convenient. They mark any food in the fridge & pantry left over by guests who already checked out with a free sticker so that current and new arrivals can have them if they wish. A pretty good deal, minimizing waste, and helping out current guests. Having fully equipped kitchen was great. The only downside is if you have roommates who are not neat and/or respectful. I think this is a great choice if you're looking for a budget accommodation and don't mind the hostel environment. Having 4 people so you can book out a whole room though was definitely helpful for us since you never know who you'll get, and we didn't want to deal with that coin toss. PROS - Extremely friendly and helpful staff. We had a very large group checking in, split across multiple rooms, and with people checking out at different times. But the staff was more than happy to assist us! - Plenty of lockers to store your belongings. We were able to do so while waiting for our check-in since we arrived a few hours earlier than our check-in time. - Lockers available inside each room too for you to lock your things up if you're sharing a room with strangers - Lots of common area space including ping pong tables, kitchen and dining area, laundry, breakfast area (with complimentary breakfast), patios, and a kids room. - Comfortable beds with an outlet and shelf even for the top bunk - Close to a bus stop and within walking distance of the train station CONS - Only 4 washers and dryers so you may have to wait like we did when trying to do laundry late at night. Quite a few people weren't the best about taking their clothes out on time either. - Shower situation wasn't the best. There was a flimsy shower curtain, but as soon as you turned the shower on, it would blow inwards and stick to you the entire time. Because of this it didn't do a great job keeping water in either so the floor would get pretty wet. - We came in July and the room was very warm even at night. We did try keeping our window open but since there was no screen, we were worried about bugs and only kept it open a crack. Overall, could use some minor improvements but I think that's the hostel experience. Great for travelers on a budget!

Enough that I think I have a pretty good barometer for what is genuinely five-star and what is just marketed that way. Victoria Jungfrau in Interlaken is the real thing. What stood out wasn't one flashy moment. It was the consistency and attention to detail from every single member of staff I interacted with. That kind of alignment doesn't happen by accident. It reflects culture and leadership. There's something here that feels like old-school European excellence in hospitality. Service that is confident, calm, precise, and not overly theatrical. It feels intentional. Lara at reception was excellent. Professional, efficient, and warm without being overdone. Check-in was smooth and polished, but never stiff. Chantal at concierge was exceptional. She noticed me every time I walked into the hotel. Not occasionally. Every time. She remembered what she had arranged, followed up naturally, and clearly paid attention. That level of detail is rare, even at top-tier properties. It made a difference. I genuinely felt that she wanted my experience in Interlaken to be great, not just adequate. In a world where many luxury hotels rely on branding and design to carry the experience, Victoria Jungfrau delivers through people. That's harder to manufacture. And it shows.
