Not sure what was in that space before. Now if they find a replacement for Romano's Macaroni Grill, El Paseo Simi will be in really good shape as a local shopping / dining plaza. Still love their landscaping and water features. So many shopping centers these days seem to cheap out on design / décor items, so I like to celebrate those that keep it visually interesting. Due to the late / prolonged Spring season, there are scads of brightly blooming trumpet vines all over the accent columns along the perimeter of the property. They are visible to passers by on Tapo Canyon Road and Alamo Street. Though it was on the cool side, with the center's landscaping, it was very pleasant to sit outside to enjoy our pizza at The Slice House last night as the sun was slowly sinking in the west. I could hear one of the water features splashing away nearby, which added to the peace of the moment. I'm a fan of visiting the businesses in this plaza due to the attention to its design and landscaping/hardscaping décor.

My four-year-old son and I visited the store to celebrate his birthday, a tradition we have enjoyed every year since his first birthday. What should have been a joyful surprise became one of the most disappointing customer service experiences I have ever had. When we entered the store, the first sales associate asked when my son's birthday was. I explained that his birthday was June 29 and that we were still within a month of his birthday. She responded, "As long as it's in the month of July." I explained that it was within the past month, and she immediately told me that was not allowed and that I would have to pay full price for the birthday bear. I politely asked, "You can't just honor it?" She walked away to speak with someone I presume was the manager. When she returned, she told me they would honor the $4 birthday bear, gestured toward the eligible bears, turned around, and walked away. She never came back. My four-year-old son stood there waiting, excited for what was supposed to be a birthday surprise. We were left standing without any assistance until another sales associate finished helping another customer. I finally had to ask, "So, is someone going to help us?" The second associate looked confused, looked around for the first employee, and then stepped in to help us. I want to recognize that this second associate was exceptional. She immediately made my son feel special by giving him a birthday badge and enthusiastically celebrating his birthday. The associate who stuffed his bear was also warm, patient, and kind. Their professionalism helped salvage part of the experience, and I am grateful for the care they showed my son. By that point, the excitement surrounding the birthday bear had disappeared. I no longer wanted to continue discussing the promotion after the way we had been treated. Instead, I let my son choose a full-price Chase bear because I wanted to preserve what remained of his birthday celebration. As we were finishing our visit, the original sales associate returned and asked the other employee whether she had collected our name and email "for the birthday bear," despite clearly seeing that my son had selected a full-price Chase bear instead. She continued questioning the other employee while glaring at us. Her demeanor throughout our visit was hostile, dismissive, and unwelcoming. I left the store feeling embarrassed, humiliated, and deeply saddened. What troubles me most is that I watched other families receive warm, attentive, and courteous service while my family was treated differently from the moment we entered the store. Based on the totality of this interaction, I believe we were subjected to discriminatory treatment. While I cannot know the employee's personal motivations, I know how my family was treated, and it stood in stark contrast to the treatment other customers received. As a Black mother, I should not have to wonder whether my race influenced the level of respect and service my son and I received during what should have been a joyful milestone. This annual Build-A-Bear visit is more than a shopping trip. It is one of our family's birthday traditions. Since my son's first birthday, we have celebrated by making his birthday bear together. Those memories are incredibly special to us. This year, one employee's conduct overshadowed what should have been another cherished memory. I am requesting the following: A thorough investigation into this incident, including interviews with the employees who worked that day and a review of any available surveillance footage. Appropriate accountability for the employee whose conduct resulted in this experience. A written apology from Build-A-Bear acknowledging the way my family was treated. Confirmation of the steps Build-A-Bear will take to reinforce its commitment to equitable, respectful customer service for every guest. I chose Build-A-Bear because your company represents joy, inclusion, and creating lasting memories for children. My son deserved to feel celebrated on his birthday. Instead, he witnessed his mother being dismissed and ignored during what should have been a happy occasion. I hope Build-A-Bear will take this complaint seriously and respond in a manner that reflects the values your company publicly embraces. This shopping center on Tapo off Cochran sprawls for several blocks. Though I've only been into…read morethe Walmart Neighborhood Market and Jo-Ann's, I've noticed that the parking lot looks clean, and they have some basic landscaping to soften the overall space. The first time we came by, it was springtime, so the nearby hills sported a coat of green grasses. Not being as familiar with this side of town, I was pleasantly surprised to see the scenic backdrop as an aspect of shopping here. There's at least one restaurant here that I want to try, and I do come back to Jo-Ann's, so I won't be a stranger to this local plaza. Guess I'll have to pay attention to what else is here, too.

The Westfield Topanga mall actually has a huge indoor mall and an outside village area with another…read more50 shops or so. It is beautiful and has a lot of upscale stores, two food courts, and lots of specialty stores as well. It has a Nordstrom and Macy's. I believe the Neiman Marcus store closed. They feature places like Balenciaga, Prada, Gucci, and Boss, and have shops like Honey Birdette and Laderach chocolates. The mall is really beautiful with a lot of indoor lighting and is mostly two levels, but has a movie theater on a third level. We did not make it to the village across the street, but it is supposed to be really nice as well. This is a top mall in SoCal and worth checking out even if you just want to get some exercise and shop. We ate at the massis kabob for lunch. Great gyros plates. I believe the main food court is being renovated and some of the eateries closed, but like I mentioned earlier they added an additional food court. Very impressive mall. 5 star mall all the way.

The shopping mall used to have an extension called The Village at Westfield Topanga, but it was sold to Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke in 2023 and is no longer affiliated with Westfield. [Parking]: Free parking at the shopping mall with no time restrictions, but the parking lot near AMC (facing Victory Blvd) was completely packed on Saturday afternoon. It is best to park in the parking structure facing Owensmouth Ave for a better parking experience. [Retails]: This is a really nice Westfield mall that caters to all visitors. The mall has a luxury collection with brands like Burberry, Gucci, Cartier, Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton, Prada, Dior, and Celine. For those who are interested in modern collectibles, there are stores like Pop Mart, Qtoy, Sanrio, Miniso, LEGO, and Cash Cards Unlimited (a trading card store) to check out. The mall also has more practical beauty and clothing retailers such as Sephora and UNIQLO. Other anchor stores include Nordstrom, Target, and Macy's. [Topanga Social]: Westfield Topanga renovated the old Sears space into a new food hall called Topanga Social in 2023 and a new AMC Theatre in 2022. There are about 50% vacant food stalls as of July 2026, but this is also where visitors can find pop-up experiences such as The Loop (currently collaborating with Crunchyroll on a free immersive anime exhibit), JINYA Ramen Bar, Wanderlust Creamery, and Red Door Escape Room. There are TVs and tables where visitors can sit and watch sports games, but the TVs are muted. [Dining Terrace]: Dining Terrace is one of those classic food courts you would find in any mall and is located on the second level. While I was not surprised to see Panda Express, Genghis Khan BBQ Grill, and Chipotle, it was interesting to find food stalls like IJ Sushi Burrito that sells sushi burrito and poke bowl. [Other notes]: Neiman Marcus was closed earlier this year at this location due to the bankruptcy of its parent company. Cheesecake Factory and Chubby Cattle are also located at this mall. [Conclusion]: I am a big fan of this Westfield mall and can easily see myself revisiting this mall whenever I am in the San Fernando Valley area.

They have a nice variety of shops that were fun to peruse. There tons of parking here so it should never be an issue. This shopping center does seem pretty quiet, I think the main traffic here is the 24 hour Fitness gym and Alberstons.
