When they quote you they give you a respectful range of pricing and are honest with you about the risks of each choice. At my house they completely replaced my A/C and if there are any issues they come the next day and are super flexible with your schedule. For me they did multiple things beyond what was asked including installing a water pump with a safety switch a power receptacle and more mainly Tom. their front office people especially Mari is super attentive to your needs and work a schedule. I couldn't be happier.

The rep who returned our call said that the company would not do an on-site inspection. Instead, she told us that they first do a telephone interview to see what we could afford. Seriously? Discussing our finances with some stranger before their tech even does an inspection? I told the rep that we had already set up some other on-site visits with other companies to find out what our options are in terms of what tanks & fittings would be appropriate and what prices these options could cost in terms of parts, labor and transport. The we would decide what works for us. Trying to figure out much $$$ they can get front is a Big Red Flag.

I had a 3 zone heat pump system installed by this company at a cost of $24,000. One unit I suspect was refurbished because it fell apart weeks after the install and they had to order parts for it.....allegedly a new unit? A unit in my attic two months later began to spew condensation where it filled the pan, the unit never shut off and began to drip through my ceiling, but luckily I caught it quickly. They had failed to insulate about a two foot section of copper leading to the condensation. For the install they had removed large sections of insulation and never bother to place the insulation back. On top of the aforementioned, there were other issues (Want a WiFi controlled thermostat? Another $800...yes...hundreds). After a while they became a little condescending because they were tiring of my complaints. A 24k system and I had no right to keep "badgering" them. The install was finally correctly finished in late spring (they started in Jan), here I am a little over a year later, in a heatwave (90-95 degrees) and I had to shut down the main unit in the living room because of a pretty bad condensation problem. I have to wait 12 days for service. There are scores of Heating/AC companies in New York State, and this is the "gang that couldn't shoot straight". Don't believe me? Go ahead and hire them and spend your hard earned dollars. You will regret it. Any positive reviews are probably paid reviews because this company plain and simply sucks. They are not worth the 1 star I had no choice but to select.

My wife and I bought a house built in 1960, which had been improved over the years in various ways…read morethat apparently made sense to the owner at the time. It was drafty, and had no air conditioning. I wanted to take advantage of NYSERDA's home energy improvement loan, and ideally get the air conditioning installed as well, all at the same time. I also wanted to be as energy efficient as possible, so I was looking for a company with experience in ductless mini-split units. Since we hadn't moved in yet, Joseph made us his priority, so things got done quickly. His team insulated all the exterior walls, added insulation to the roof, air sealed the house, installed a radon removal system in the basement, and installed 5 ductless mini split units. And as I've now learned is normal for an older house, several other things had to be done to allow the things we actually wanted done to be done, like relocating the service drop coming into the house, replacing the fuse box, and so on. They also did some minor things like replace the truly scary electrical connection going to the dishwasher, install a fire-rated door to the garage, and deal with some plumbing issues. The men doing the work were all very professional, and were very good about cleaning up after themselves at the end of each day. They got there in the morning when they said they would, and were very careful about not leaving doors or anything open where my cat could escape. And when I had to go to work and no one could be there at times, I had no concerns leaving them at the house by themselves. Joseph stopped by several times through the process to make sure things were going well. He seems intent on getting things done right, and not cutting corners. When we had an issue with one of the upstairs air handlers making a very loud whistling noise, several people came back and installed an extra return to reduce the noise dramatically. I have no qualms about recommending Malcarne Contracting to people I know, and I'll certainly be hiring them again for any other work that needs to be done.
