ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS: this area, along with the Highlands, keeps rockin' with really great dog friendly activities. Part of the Monmouth County Park System, Mount Mitchell Scenic Overlook is the highest elevation point between southern Maine to the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico. That's pretty incredible and offers stunning views of Sandy Hook, the Atlantic ocean, and NYC skyline and surrounding NY cities. It is such a special spot and also includes a beautiful 9/11 memorial. Please be respectful when you are exploring the property with your dog.

Isn't this the highest point on the East Coast? Or is it just NJ? Anyway, it's a great view of Sandy Hook and the New York City skyline. This is a really nice tribute to those that fell on 9/11/01. The monument there is a grim reminder of that.

What can you say about this place? I found this place by accident in the late 90s. It was just a cool spot to eat lunch and look at the NY City skyline. It has become so much more. Mount Mitchell is the location of Monmouth County's 9/11 Memorial. Whoever designed this nailed it. The walkway is a timeline, the statue base is a pentagon, the names of those residents lost are engraved in the side. It is stunning. There is also a small memorial at the base of the flagpole for those lost in the hostage crisis during the Carter administration. It's not all somber reflection. You can see the NY skyline, the Statue of Liberty, Sandy Hook. It's a beautiful spot. There is even a playground off to the side to let the little ones burn off some energy. If you're in the area, stop by. You'll never forget it.

LOVE is an understatement for this. I had no idea this overlook existed until on a whim I was looking for an adventure. I will say on a clear day you would have 100% better view but I was still able to see the NYC skyline! The views are endless and so peaceful and serene. It's a quick drive from Red Bank, NJ and located in Central New Jersey! I am hoping to go back when it's warmer out.

On our way back from Sandy Hook we stopped here so we could see the Hook from the other side. Clear day beautiful view of NYC skyline. Very nice area to sit, relax and admire the view. Several benches. They have coin operated viewers to use if you don't have your own binoculars. There is a 911 memorial.

I was in the area visiting the Twin Lights Historic Site and found this attraction nearby. I figure it was only a few minutes away so I decided to give it a go. The landscaping was beautiful. Excellent views from way high up. The 9/11 memorial is beautiful though. I spent about 10-15 minutes there and thats about it. Don't make this a destination, I would recommend it only if you are in the area.

Mt. Mitchill Park is one of the the highest points along the New Jersey Shore. It looks across the bay into Staten Island, Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. It is a million dollar view for sure. A new feature of the park is a 9-11 memorial that contains the names of all the Monmouth County residents that lost there lives on 9/11/2007. They are all listed by towns. It is a very moving experience to walk around the base and read the names. Mt. Mitchill Scenic Overlook is a small park and will not hold your interest for more than an hour but you will be glad you stopped by.

Breathtaking!

I love this location. It is beautiful and well kept. The view is stunning. This place simply must be visited if you are in the area. There are not many in NJ like this.

Cool spot to go to - could be fewer tree branches blocking the view - but hood to check out if in the area

It's beautiful, although small. The view is amazing and the grounds are spectacular to walk through. There's a 9/11 tribute too.

It was also a dream to get to travel there with my close friends and for them to see Italy for the first time! Our trip was curated so thoughtfully by Anthony. The food, the wine, the places we stayed, and the people we met along the way were all wonderful. From wine tasting in Tuscany, to the private tour of the winery itself, to hiking in Elba, to spontaneously going to the Montefalco festival (we were lucky that we happened to be nearby the weekend of the festival!!)... I experienced a whole new Italy I'd never seen before, new culinary styles, new wine varietals and exquisite scenery. Anthony has a joy and passion for Italy and travel and as his guests, we felt that joy throughout the entire trip. 5-stars for sure :)

However, he had made sure to create an itinerary that had a perfect blend of activity, relaxation and exploration and managed to split us off if needed. Honestly, I was a little apprehensive because I wasn't sure what the service Sojourn provided was for, but Anthony ensures that you are not stressed about a single thing throughout your journey. He had driven us to each of our destination points safely and had also booked us for local experiences that we would never have otherwise found. Between the private wine tours, once-in-a-lifetime dinners, and the freedom to explore everything else with no worries, it was truly a perfect vacation. Thanks Anthony!

Starting area was sparse as far as vendors, food, coffee. We all felt we could have done this ride on our own for free. The value was terrible for the cost. We have done many rides with various organizations and you got much more bang for your buck. BNY needs to tighten up the start process and offer more if they are going to continue to charge these very high rates.

Twin Lights is a bike ride organized by Bike New York, who are perhaps best known for the 5-boro…read morebike tour. It takes place annually in September and covers an area near Sandy Hook. I did the 30-mile route, which went past some shore areas and was mostly the roads around Middletown. To see the shore, you would need to do the 15 mile ride. A few people from our group did that as a little bonus after the ride. The other ride lengths are (I think) 45 mi, 60 mi, and 100 mi. I went with some people from a Meetup biking group, some of whom I had biked with a few times over the summer. It was a good way to cap off a couple of months of riding. I would not advise just going on one of these rides cold, as some people do. I hadn't ridden 30 miles before, but I had done around mid 20s a few times. In the immediate few weeks before the ride, I dropped off to 7-14 mile rides, just once or twice a week (due to being busy, not for training purposes). I thought that 30 miles might be a challenge for me, but it was fine. I think as long as you keep riding *some*, you maintain your abilities. In addition, the energy of the event itself gives you a boost (though, I still wouldn't ride too much out of your range). Lots of bikers are around at all times, and plenty of signs. It's kind of like how when you're walking in New York, you don't realize how far you've walked because there's so many buildings and things to see. More checkpoints = less perception of distance or fatigue. Oh and there are SNACKS-- I brought my own, but they had bagels and juice, etc at the start as well as two rest stops with PBJ's, cookies, bananas, etc. The second station on my route had a chocolate fondue fountain. It's kind of social, or could be- people hanging out for a few minutes at these stops. They also had a "finish festival" which was a band playing in a gazebo and some picnic tables. There is time to hang out before the ride as well. I think they could probably do one or two other things to make it more social and facilitate interactions. But they've put some really good pieces in place, by setting up that environment. This was my first ride, so I didn't realize there would be people taking pictures for you. Several days after the ride, you get an email with a link to a photographer's website where you can search for yourself by your bib number. I just did the ride to see what this type of thing is all about. It's a fun thing to do with some biking friends and to celebrate your hobby, at whatever fitness level you've achieved.
