    Great hiking
    Ben D.

Stayed at Mt Lemmon Lodge after riding my bike up the mountain. Staff was very friendly and the rooms are plush and very comfortable. One should be aware of a few things before staying there in my opinion. There are zero amenities on top of the mountain and I mean zero. There is a general store and a cookie shop and that's it. The restaurant in the hotel serves mostly sandwiches and wraps. On the night I stayed there. I called ahead and confirmed the restaurant would be open until 7 PM. Upon arrival at five I was informed the restaurant was about to close so I was able to head over after checking in and grab a sandwich before they closed for the night. Other customers weren't so lucky and tried to find some food in the area with no luck and ended up driving the hour back down to Tucson to get dinner. I feel like the hotel could at least have a cooler or essentials area with some food options to heat in the room like every other hotel I stay at has. Microwave meals, ramen etc would be great for someone who just hiked for the day... next time I visit I will bring my own food to re-heat. All that being said, they have an amazing patio and the nearby hiking trails are world class!!! I have already re-booked and look forward to another stay at the Lodge.

Retreat from the heat! Less than an hour away from Tucson, a scenic winding road going through six ecological zones from desert to towering pines, brings you to Summerhaven and a true "Crown of The Catalinas" Mt. Lemmon Lodge. It's open for business and waiting to welcome you! Polished, rustic elegance describes the lodge, reminiscent of a Swiss chalet, or a ski lodge in Colorado, yet the vibe is comfortable, charming and upbeat as is the awesome staff; all of them friendly, knowledgeable, ready to help visitors have the best possible experience while there. Hungry after a day of hiking, or biking the many trails on the mountain or perhaps bird watching or fishing? Inside the Lodge, Beyond Bread has a great variety of absolutely delicious offerings and a large covered deck, open to the great outdoors Here for a stay? All rooms are Alpine-Styled, individually decorated, beautifully appointed, spotless and have balconies. We stayed here for our 49th wedding anniversary. Sipping wine & relaxing on ours, enjoying the light rain, (it was 'Monsoon Season") and taking in the gorgeous scenery & scents of the forest all around made for an unforgettable experience. Each room has a stone-wrapped electric fireplace. Beds are super comfortable. Coffee & tea (with all the fixin's) microwave and refrigerator are in each room. There's a genuine Swedish sauna on the 3rd level & towels are provided. Looking for a perfect gift or memento of your stay? Don't miss the marvelous array of carefully curated items from local vendors found in the Gift Shop! Want more fun? The Lodge has renewed a tradition of the 70's & 90's. Local bands will be playing music on the weekends in the Lodge's Music on the Mountain series. Talk about 'added value'...yes! Been here yet? No? You gotta go! Why? This place truly has a magic all its own.

I went into the beyond bread shop. I ordered a sandwich. Call the dollies something when I got the sandwich. The sandwich was cut in half between me and my companion. Instead of charging us the $15 they charged us nine each so we had to pay $18 for the same goddamn sandwich will I call the attorney generals office on this? I don't know but this obviously pisses me off. I might just call Visa and say we were overcharged by these professionals shifter grifters . My companion was bamboozled to think that they got a side with it even though I told him five times , no they got an order of pickles and then bought two orders of ice tea. They charged my companion three bucks for a bunch of salted sliced dill pickles in a tiny little paper cup The bread was a day, old and disgusting and so full of sugar. It taste almost like a doughnut. The food itself slapped together, was horrible to the point on my way down Mount Lemmon. I pulled over on the side of the road and threw up. The hotel we sat outside on the balcony. There was no bug screening. There was no sonic screening. There was no smoke screening of any type and so yes, the whole entire balcony was full of wasps, sting and biting wasp. Then the music band didn't set up their game properly so they're singing reggae which base was in key but the gains off so it sounds like a the siren of a police car of a police car They had no handicap places to park besides for guess on the hill, my companion is handicap. So we parked illegally in the handicap parking place that's reserved for a hotel only then we informed the administration that we were parking there because we were handicap and would that be OK they cooperative with us on that part else. I hate to say this I would've called on this to my lawyer and the American with disabilities association for a lawsuit against them not providing handicap access So one point plus there Their hotel was clean however, the fire marshal needs to go in there and see if it's overcrowded because there is no way we could stand in line for a sandwich To the point that three people from Quebec, all one percent elite specials cut in line and the line took 90 minutes from the back and tried to walk in front of us. I walked in front of them and they gave me a bunch of lip the back of them complained and they said all we were here shut up you racist and then a battle of words commenced between that guy and the three Quebec one percent special white privilege people that think they could cut in front of 30 people waiting in line The staff did nothing they didn't even stop them a few of them snickered at the whole event the white one special banking. People decided to call everybody a racist to get out of their way and that you were all a bunch of lowlife and everything else that could come out of their mouth . And all the staff did nothing The reggae music was decent and the band tried hard, but unfortunately, the sound was large and the gain was off, giving everybody a headache and making their teeth vibrate I about had enough from the horrible food, the horrible music not due to the band, but to the Soundsystem wasn't set up the overcrowding and the Quebec racist that started a major scene because they wanted to cut in line and treat everybody like trash as if they were the superior race being white end of the one percent elite The staff doing completely and utterly nothing But to summarize the hotel was clean, the hotel smelled decently. The hotel was overcrowded. The food was complete garbage. It was overpriced, and the band was annoying. It took two hours to drive up there to find out there was no parking for handicap people so we parked in handicap spot the one and only for hotel guess only and got special consent to stay there which we would've moved immediately. Had they told us to, and then then filed the lawsuit. There was an elevator instead of the stairs, loud for the handicap person I was with to go have lunch In all, it wasn't a horrible experience Some things need to be improved However, there's no way in hell I would ever go back this crap again and because it's a four hour round-trip and it took two hours for lunch waiting in line because there was one staff on the cashier for a concert Let me give you that one cashier one monopoly for a concert. A couple of hundred people showed up to have lunch. Just one venue If you wanna be ridiculous, this is about it and this is the reason I'm not gonna go again because I'm not waiting two hours for freaking sandwiches

their sandwiches suck and cost way too much. in this economy?? I could barely afford drinks let alone whole sammies. $50 for soggy bread and 2 fountain drinks. i mean, come on ppl. I felt like I was paying more for the view than the sandwiches.

The desert hills in the area are incredibly beautiful, and since the ranch is 100 acres, it feels almost completely undeveloped while you're staying there. The house also has gorgeous views of the surrounding hills. The rooms are well-decorated, very clean, and have a personal feeling and charm that you can't get in a hotel or motel. I stayed in the Manzanita room and found everything very comfortable and spacious. Finally, the owner is very warm and friendly. She made me breakfast just how I wanted it, gave me aloe for my race-induced blisters, and was generally wonderful company for the relatively little time I spent out in the living room. She was also very welcoming when I arrived despite it being 1:45 in the morning due to a delayed flight and getting a little lost on the way. Note: The front gate has a pretty small sign that can be easy to miss at night, but it's right across from a prominent sign at the entrance to Oracle State Park.

Finally my wife and I had a chance to be guests of the Cherry Valley Ranch. We stayed in one of the Casitas' for a night and enjoyed the peaceful valley and cool night temperatures. The breakfast was a very delightful mix of Mexican dishes and fruit prepaired by a local chef. What a find! Historic cabins on an art ranch - so different from the usual sterile hotel…read moreenvironment, but with artistic and modern comfort! It's a unique way to fill your soul with the beauty of the high desert and uplifting art. It combines stand-alone cabins from another era with an adjacent outdoor sculpture park and art gallery - one of a kind accommodations with a one of a kind experience. We stayed in the bunkhouse and the cabin on our recent girls' trip. You might wonder if you made the right choice when you turn onto the dirt road to the ranch, but this is the true old west without paved roads. Funny how much your heart responds to leaving asphalt behind! I stayed in the original ranch bunkhouse built of adobe mud in the 1880's, restored now with modern comforts. The Old West vibe is still there but so is air conditioning, a comfy king-sized bed, small kitchen, and, of course, plumbing. Also present is the all-important WIFI. The bedside lamps even have USB ports to charge your phones while you sleep. It hits just the right balance of old, quaint, artistic and unobtrusively modern. There's a small couch, rocking chair, and large screened-in porch and more. I don't know how the original occupants kept it, but it was immaculate (this aspect earned high marks by us all). We were busy on this trip supporting our runner in an ultramarathon up nearby Mount Lemmon so we didn't get to enjoy all the many special touches as much as we wanted to such as the many outdoor cozy seating spots under trees. We also wish we'd had time to get to know my neighbors behind the bunkhouse - a couple of quiet but curious goats. Throughout our stay, we didn't hear them nor anyone else staying there. It was like having our own little getaway in the high desert. The Triangle L is also an Art Ranch. The Sculpture Park alone is not to be missed! It would be worth the trip in itself and made a big impression on us even though we did not have time to explore it all. Some sculptures even have special night lighting. You could spend hours here appreciating it as you walk along its path, which lends its own sculptures of uniquely-shaped, high desert cacti. If interested , we recommend checking out the web site for a preview and look for the many special events. They just opened up a "Metal" exhibit in the old adobe barn converted into an Art Gallery and Gift Shop. The Triangle L is located in Oracle - a small town that we found to be full of traditional small town friendliness from its unique restaurants to its shops selling their own art and jewelry pieces. We learned why the new looking Nonna Maria's has been in business for 25+ years - their marinara and pizza are outstanding. I had a great turkey and avocado croissant sandwich at the Patio Cafe and their adjacent Market sells all kinds of baked goods, including more types of pies than I've ever seen before. We enjoyed breakfast at Casa Rivera's but we ran out of time before we got to try the Riot Grill, which we'd also heard good things about. Most restaurants here are owner-operated so be sure to check their hours before going. Oracle is about 2 hours from Phoenix and only 1 hour from Tucson. It sits in the high desert so offers somewhat cooler weather than both of them. There are many nearby trails for hiking besides those our runner was doing in the Desert Peak Ultramarathon event, including those in Oracle State Park. There is also access to the Arizona National Scenic Trail (AZT). We met lots of cyclists as well. In between supporting our runner at the aid stations, I also made a trip to the nearby Biosphere 2. It is also worth a trip. It was created as a completely sealed off ecological system to test out what would be needed to build independent self-contained stations capable of life for future space colonization. In the 90's, 8 scientists were sealed in it along with various plants and animals for 2 years. Now, it functions as an ecological research station. The scope is amazing. For instance, I walked through its rainforest, complete with waterfall and tall tree canopy and even saw its small ocean. So much technology is needed to support it - we have much to learn before space life is possible. The tour is self-guided by well-done videos through an app but there are three additional guided tours. Note: there are some parts that can only be accessed by stairs. OK, I got a little carried away with this review of the Triangle L Ranch. The Triangle L Ranch and Art Ranch seems to be a well-kept secret that I just didn't want people to miss. It and the surrounding area really struck a chord with us. Also, our hostess (and resident artist) went above and beyond for us, accommodating our changing reservations and our late arrival with an inventive sign to help point us to our cabins. We certainly hope we get to meet her sometime as we definitely hope to come back - if it isn't booked for years in advance once the word gets out.

A first glance this hotel looks so modern and new that I would be giving it five stars. Plus, the employees I interacted were so nice and helpful. I get into my room, everything looks fine. Then I get ready to take a shower and I notice a soaking wet wash rag (pictured with my review) sitting on the shower nob. That definitely made me question if the shower was cleaned. Then I saw long strands of black hair and I was pretty sure it wasn't. I probably should have asked to switch rooms but I was exhausted and feeling under the weather and didn't feel like dealing with it. Something else I noticed was that this hotel uses specialized sensors to detect vaping in rooms. I think this is great and shows care for their staff. However, I read a review where a woman claimed that blowdrying her hair led to a false positive result for vaping and she was charged $500. This made me paranoid because since I was sick, I decided it was best to not fall asleep With damp hair, so I hesitantly used the hotel provided dryer. Lastly, having something this high tech would lead me to believe that they are tech forward but they are not. There was no available outlet by my beds. The charging ports were all antiquated USB-A, which I haven't used in years. You can at least provide a normal outlet if you're not going to provide USB-C ports.
