Tonight at Hotel Congress Anthony Gomes playing blues blues blues . Nice evening in the patio

We came to eat the St. Patrick's Day special, and none of the advertisements stated that reservations were needed. We checked in twice at the desk for times and went to the bar to wait. We went back to the restaurant when the evening time began only to be told reservations were needed. We drove a long way for this.

My wife and I stopped for a drink at the Tiger's Taproom at the Hotel Congress and loved it! In addition to the great beer (I had a Crooked Tooth Hazy) and a very friendly bartender, the bar had Western paintings from Pete Martinez, which gave the bar a special feel. It's also the bar where Tom "Tiger" Ziegler was bartender from 1959 to 2024, a staggering 65 years. His outfit is on display behind plexiglass. My wife and I lingered here as the people watching was so good. The Hotel Congress is perhaps the oldest hotel in Tucson, drips with history, and is the place where John Dillinger and his gang were arrested. I think a stop here is a must if you're visiting Tucson.

As a local, we did a night downtown with a stay in Tucsons haunted hotel. This was definitely worth the experience of brass keys and no elevator. By staying In the hotel you get to go above what classic charm is seen in the lobby. The rooms still have the charm of the old building. We stayed in a cactus garden room which came with access to a private garden on the 2nd floor with a close view of the sign. It was nice to sit there with a cocktail and listen to the music from the plaza. Hotel Congress is worth a stay and still one of our favorite places downtown!

Place has changed a lot and for the better. Hubs was a band for Surfapalooza 2025. Fans and outdoor coolers were going which helped a lot. Fun event.

Last night Tuesday November 4 , 2025 was busy week night at historic Hotel Congress with a Tucson city council election watch party , vip event in century room ( jazz & music room , live metal? band name unknown, in other room not related to the event , multiple bars filled , cup coffee shop indoors & outdoors busy . Across the street at historic theatre with long line to see a comedian I never heard of . Tucson downtown hopping on Tuesday night! The outdoor patio was filled with the election watch party . I made the event to support my friend Selina Barajas 4th generation Tucsonan sp winning the ward 5 city council seat as first woman to represent Ward 5 ! That said, historic Hotel Congress is a corner stone on the transformation of downtown by Richard Oseran , wife & family . The historic hotel with rooms across the street all 2nd floor I believe . The hotel is said to be haunted and ghost tours travel through I'm told . History confirms famous character John Dillinger was there living & maybe captured there or ? I haven't really been to the hotel there since daughter took me to a Calexico concert sine:many years ago . I was impressed with the character retained yet the " hipster, ,& to quote another review " quirky" historic updates & " themes of the historic original " bones of the well preserved building itself . The hotel , bars ,& courtyard was filled with skeletons, skulls , pirates , & martians which I don't know if seasonal Dia de los Muertos theme part of a permanent ghostly themed decor? With original woodwork & light fixtures the updates present an interesting mixed generational feeling . The cup cafe had a big menu posted on the lobby wall & quite popular I'm told . The hotel is well known for its many musical guests, performances,& events.. Local community radio station KXCI had a glassed live studio inside which is highly visible from the street as well . Historic Hotel Congress continues the host, serve , & entertain as a historic community hub a preserved cornerstone & gateway to downtowns past, present, & future . Check it out, fun times allowed !

This rating is just for the hotel experience. After spending 20 years in the Air Force, I have spent my share of time in hotels, travelling around the world. The Hotel Congress was certainly memorable. The story of Dillinger and his gang is fascinating. We decided last March to have a staycation in Tucson for our anniversary. Location-wise, it is a nice choice, as it is within walking distance to other popular locations, such as the Fox Theater and numerous restaurants and bars. Upon arrival, the first thing that caught my attention was that I was handed a physical key. I cannot remember the last time I received one, perhaps the mid-to-late 90s? The second was that it seemed like the woman behind the desk gave us 15 minutes of instructions on how to use the keys, to signing waivers for the music that would be played at night, and a slew of rules. The music is very loud at night, and my wife had a hard time sleeping. I did not have that issue as I enjoyed the nightlife prior to returning :) I attempted to rate this experience with other historic hotels I have stayed at as I did not think it would be fair to compare it to a modern luxury hotel. While it is loud at night, the hotel is also quirky, and I like quirky. We also upgraded to one of the cactus garden rooms that comes with a semi-private area.

Loved the ghost tour at Hotel Congress. Melissa our tour guide was amazing and she shared the history of the hotel dating all the way back to the capture of John Dillinger. We got keys to some of the most active rooms and learned about the ghostly stories. The tour was about 1 hour and we got to ask questions and take videos and photos. You're allowed to take your drink to the tour. We had some drinks at the tap room before beginning our tour. If you're into spooky stuff this tour is for you.

This classic hotel, built in 1919, looks like something straight out of the classiest parts of the Jazz Age. Built on the newly paved Congress Street where it still stands, the swanky hotel even looked classy back in the day. Of course all of this splendor in the otherwise developing town managed to attract some high-profile clientele, including some of ill repute. Namely, John Dillinger and his gang. They were staying in the hotel on the night of January 22, 1934, when a fire started in the hotel. Fleeing for their lives, the outlaws evacuated the building, leaving behind luggage containing their weapons and hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash. As they had checked in under aliases, they tried to maintain their cover, paying off a couple of local firemen to go back for the luggage. However the firefighters managed to piece together who the ne'er do wells were, and they were swiftly arrested by the Tucson Police Department. To commemorate their brush with crime, the hotel hosts the Dillinger Days festival each January. So if you happen to find yourself at the hotel around then and someone asks you to go get their luggage for them, just say no.   Today, the hotel has been restored to a regal splendor that stands out even more in the modern age. Although rumors still abound of haunted rooms from decades past.

With great care driving during 5 pm rush hour traffic congestion entering the event venue the valet parking offered made the arrival and limited parking much easier . I chose to attend to view the historic 1901 venue Stillwell House and Garden to experience with great anticipation snd high expectations as seen and read in many positive Yelp reviews. Our Tucson Yelp GM Isabella J. has touted this venue as one of her favorites which I have not visited before and lived up to said expectations in ambiance , efficiency , and enjoyment. Just a block south of Charro Steak and del Rey Seafood on south 5th avenue on the corner lies this large party venue . Not surprising the venue is owned and part of the large and local Si Charro group growing empire of restaurants in greater Tucson Arizona and beyond. Entering the large center courtyard the Stillwell house was highly decorated and lite up tastefully as a December Holiday party with over a hundred people celebrating a yearly party for the Presidio Group. began in the bar area. Hors d'oeuvres of meatballs & mini chimichangas in one area and large guacamole building table all fully staffed and foods presented colorfully by the Si Charro kitchen on site. In another corner by the bar had hot Mexican chocolate and cafe de ola . And in another corner was a huge cookie table with gingerbread houses and a large gingerbread cookie character anchoring the table filled with sweets . I was impressed with the large comfortable space accommodating this somewhat large crowd very comfortably . The large staff fully attended to the guests every need . After approximately an hour the gathering was surprisingly moved to the north side two story building adjacent to the the patio for a buffet dinner with festive green corn tamales , chicken mole , & prime rib with a bean medley, rice , tortillas , & tossed salad again fully staffed with friendly and efficient servers . Impressive were the seasonal colors and character added to all the food presented to celebrate and garnish the food for the winter solstice holiday season . The green corn tamales and chicken mole were especially tasty as was all the food presented. Following dinner the guests moved back to the patio and bar areas for the cookie table , Mexican hot chocolate & cafe de la ola awaiting a raffle of prizes patrons hoped to win. . Everyone was a winner with small bags of cookies professionally personalized the Presido Group Wealth Management logo for everyone to take home . I can now see why this is a popular wedding & other event venue in this historic large setting . The staff , food , decor ,and setting makes such events quite memorable. I mainly came to make a short visit to experience the venue, during the event my nfl football team the Lions where playing an important Thursday night game with playoff implications. Although I asked in advance if a tv was avaiable only an extremely small tv was hidden and off in the top corner of the bar. If wanted I could follow the game on my phone , but I did not . The food, drink," business friends , & festive historic setting enticed me to stay longer for most of the 2.5 hour early evening event rather than leaving early as pre planned . I couldn't resist staying for the dinner portion catered by Si Charro on site and throughly enjoyed the whole event & Stillwell House and Garden experience. It's now obvious why this is a most popular event location for your complete party venue needs. A true historic local gem" in downtown Tucson. I would consider using Uber or Lyft transportation Uber again at that busy time downtown . I'm told there's a parking garage nearby , the on street parking was full , but the valet parking made arrival much easier, thank you. ( I was told the Stillwell House & Garden has been under the same family ownership since 1901 but cannot confirm they fact ) That said historic 1901 historic Stillwell House and Garden experience is another " feather in cap " so to speak for our downtown city of gastronomy & Si Charro groups ever growing and expanding culinary & social experience.
