But, there are some things to note, namely on cost: 1. There are great "summer" rates and packages available - they usually run from mid-May until just before Labor Day. 2. Valet parking is $42 a day - there really isn't another option. 3. The resort fee is $68.73 per day (that includes tax) 4. Food and drink are VERY pricey - especially breakfast and lunch (my small egg white omelet with greens on the side was $29). If you have the ability, use the To-Go coffee and bakery spot next to Core Kitchen & Bar. They are open until 11am everyday. 5. They do cater, fairly well, to gluten-free needs. Other things to note: We were in room 2805 - a beautiful, clean, and comfortable room. It was so nice to have a fire pit on our terrace to enjoy (as well as the wildlife that stopped by to say hi). Note that there is a sidewalk that runs the length of the hotel, right in front of the fire pits so during the day, it does not feel as private. The spa cabana was worth the price tag if you plan on wanting to be outside all day and want to keep cool in between soaking in the sun or swimming in the pool. It's also adults-only. The spa, itself is beautiful with every amenity you'd need for a relaxing day.

Five times in the past two years…read more I'm gluten and dairy free and I've been to A LOT of workshops, classes, retreats, etc. Normally I pack my own food with me because for some reason, even in today's world, people find gluten free & dairy free to be an insurmountable challenge. Not this place. I have never enjoyed such a wide variety of choices. Yes, I said choices. I could actually choose from different dishes at each meal and every lunch and dinner came with a GF/DF dessert option! In all my illustrious travels, this treatment is unprecedented. I feel spoiled when I come here. One night they even made homemade dairy free ice cream. Stay here and say goodbye to the old "I guess I'll just have salad all week since there's nothing else I can eat" syndrome. It's not all about the food either. The location is beautiful and secluded with plenty of hiking trails. Seriously incredible views of the desert/hills. The rooms are a bit rustic, but I enjoyed their quirkiness. It helped me to remember I was someplace special, someplace not to be taken for granted. I stayed in three different rooms over the years and each had its own bathroom, multiple beds, dresser, heater, and I think they had A/C (never used it). I was always comfortable and slept well. They also have a pool, jacuzzi and wonderful fire pit with benches around it. Cell reception is spotty (that's a plus in my book), but they provide wifi, so if you need to stay connected, you can. The staff is also really friendly and helpful. I'm not sure what else to say other than I'd recommend coming here. It isn't a fancy resort, but if you want to find a place where you can slow down and fall back in love with the world again, give C.O.D. a shot!

I thought it was pretty cool the way they reflected pictures onto the ground of the animals they discussed. They taught us not just about the animals of the desert, but also about the rock formations, and constellations as well . They did an introduction before we set out on the trail and an icebreaker, which I also thought was a cool little activity to help us all feel more comfortable. I would definitely do this again, and recommend it for anyone who's never done it. This would be a great activity to bring an out-of-town friend on. FYI- the hell when you first start, the trail is pretty steep.. I was huffing and puffing a bit lol. If you have any knee injuries or struggle with steep land, you might want to sit this one out. The rest of the trail is flat after however the hill is needed to start and end the trail (it probably took like 1-2 minutes to scale it). Also to find the area where the hike starts, you'll want to drive all the way through the park until you get to the parking lot on the left. For some reason, I thought it would be pretty close to when you enter the park, however, it is a little drive.

The camp host called me a few days before our reservation to confirm everything, go over the main details, and to ask me if I had any questions. I was greeted again by Bill when I arrived and had no problem finding the campsite. It's near the top of the mountain and the drive up is stunning. Our campsite had everything we needed including electricity. The huge fire ring is wonderful for a large group and the covered table area was wonderful. Bill and his wife serviced our outhouse multiple times while we were there and the trash was emptied regularly. Each site has it's own parking "lot" and there are sidewalks leading to the fire ring and ramada. I will definitely camp here again in the future and look forward to coming back! Hopefully Bill and his wife will still be there as they're the best camp hosts.
