Our church from Show Low, AZ just had our women's retreat at this ranch. I have only good things to say about it, the staff and the food. True, some of the rooms are older - "historic" should give you a clue. But they are freshly painted and clean. We had clean, made up beds and our rooms were decorated. Our ladies loved the quaint, sort of hodge podge way they were spread out along the dirt road but all close to each other. Many had porches that looked out on beautiful vistas. The staff was amazing. I have organized things all my adult life and I can say working with Steve and Eric was a delight. They were so accommodating and gracious. The cooks were wonderful and everything was fresh. Our apple cobbler was made with fresh apples, not canned. Lots of vegis, huge salads, soups, Mexican food night with terrific enchiladas...we were stuffed! We used the Barn as our main gathering room and it was spacious for our 55 ladies. But it also was small enough to be intimate and they provided coffee and hot water with lots of tea choices and all the trimmings. We added cupcakes and sweets and it made our evening meetings very special. The pool is old but clean and heated to 80 so swimming on a chilly day was fun. The jacuzzi was awesome...a special touch for a place like this. One other thing...having looked at lots of packages at other camps, our package included 7 meals, not the normal 5 and we would have had to bring our own sleeping bags and sleep on plastic covered bunks. Here we felt pampered. This is not a luxury hotel. It is a bit funky and gently worn, in a comfortable sort of way that feels like your favorite old sweatshirt. We will be there next year and our family reunion has a new home! read more

Regarding our stay at the Historic COD Ranch. We took a look before you book approach. As soon as we arrived we were surprised and enchanted. It was not the loose board and outhouse type we have seen in New Mexico and Colorado. The room was large and hospitable, and the bathroom was modern and clean. Each room has its own rustic unique qualities, ours had western paintings and custom iron lamps. Nice touches and a feel of the West, like a working ranch (I later found out it had been a working cattle ranch). Our host Mr Malkin went out of his way to accommodate us. The food was excellent and especially prepared for my diabetic diet. That alone was worth the stay. Try that in other places. We hiked in the rugged rolling foothills below Mount Lemmon. There was a nice solitude for me, now too old for overnight backpacking. Yet there was also a capacity to handle large groups and a large meeting room (converted barn) that opened to a corral for picnics, presentations, a band, or a real barn dance. Beautiful ranch with unbelievable views next door to Oracle State Park. We chose to book one of their luxury La Paloma casitas, which had all the comforts you would expect from a luxury ranch casita - Egyptian cotton sheets, plush bedding, organic toiletries and stunning views. The casita's bedroom and bathroom were both very large and looked out over miles of mountain vistas. Our casita also had a separate room with a kitchenette. The barbecue and private hiking trailhead nearby were an added plus. Our friends stayed in The Wrangler at the other side of the ranch. The casita was also a good size and had luxury bedding, a microwave, mini fridge/freezer and coffee maker. That casita had a Western theme and a private porch and was close to a C.O.D. Ranch trailhead. There are beautiful fountains and seating areas throughout this large and private ranch. This would be a great spot for a wedding or family reunion. Truly a hidden gem, just North of Tucson and Oro Valley. read more

I had the good fortune to be invited to attend a Plein Air artists group to paint in the Coronado National Forest. Besides the incredible views to choose from to paint, we stayed at the most charming place ever. The COD Ranch was a welcome surprise. It was the C.O.D. Ranch. It was rustic but in the most unassuming yet perfect way. This was not some chichi resort but an adorable, comfortable location. 3 of us gals stayed in a two room casita with a full kitchen and a fireplace. Even though the group gathered around the outdoor fire pit before retiring to our rooms. My friends and I built a fire in the fireplace making the casita even more cozy. The food was excellent. The staff was accommodating and appeared the moment we requested anything but left us to our own experience without hovering. Overall I would give the C.O.D. four stars. I recommend it to all my artists friends. We will be back next year! read more

As I drove in the long driveway of the COD ranch I did not know what to expect. But once there I was amazed at the views of the vistas. It seemed as if you could see for 100 miles. Then the sunset that evening of my first night came and it got even better. And the stars!!!. "Peter, you are not in Jersey any more". The food was great and served family style. You could eat in the large dinning area or sit outside to take in the endless view. I mostly sat outside. The rooms were comfortable and clean. They had that southwest flair: simple, open, and colorful. I am not a pool person, but I was glad to take a dip in the afternoon. Some families with kids spent half the day there. Do remember Arizona weather. You can have a sweater on in the morning and take a swim in the afternoon. A 30 degree swing is normal. I loved it. I would go back. read more

"My seven days at COD ranch was the happiest of my entire life. I miss it terribly, and am determined to return next year. The rooms were wonderful and clean, well equipped with on-suite bathroom, and everything you could hope to need. The people were welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was INCREDIBLE, and the only down side was admitting you had no room left to have another helping. It was always delicious, and we vegetarians were well catered for. The cooking was marvellous, and that goes for the desserts, too. The surrounding countryside was beautiful, and at night perfectly dark, and quite with a clear starry sky. I was sorry to leave, and feel more home sick for COD Ranch than I do for my own home. I wish I lived there all the time." read more

Wanted a place for a getaway with old college buddies that was relaxing, homey and away from the hussle and bussle of the big city (we came from LA). Found the perfect spot in the historic COD Ranch. Mr Malkin was the perfect host, very kind, very professional as was his crew. The staff could not have been nicer nor more accomadating. They made us feel like family. The food was good, homemade and plenty of it. Our room was spacious, clean and had a neat western motif. Air conditioned to match the daytime heat and nicely heated for the cold desert nights. Had a great time making s'mores at the fire pit under a sky full of stars. Beautiful! Great hiking trails. The view from the terrace near the main house to the valley below was awesome. What a lovely space to support growth and learning and reconnecting with myself. I've been here twice and am grateful for an easy-going, down-to-earth place to let go into. The natural environment is a great backdrop; I brought back lots of breath-taking pictures. As others have mentioned, the attention to dietary needs is like no place I've ever been. I could feel the delight of the chef to want to accommodate the needs of all participants. It never felt like a sense of duty but truly felt like an expression of joy in serving. The meeting room is full of windows as well as oodles of cushions and couches for a cozy place to gather. And the rooms--they are fine for me. I was warm, slept well, had hot showers...what more do I need? I definitely look forward to future stays. read more

This was my second time hosting a yoga retreat at the C.O.D. Ranch. Eric & Chef Loren exceeded our group's expectations. Eric was great at communicating prior to the retreat and making sure all of the details were taken care of before our arrival. During the retreat, he was available for questions or anything else we needed. Chef Loren's menu was not only creative, it was delicious. He was attentive to the special needs of our group, such as gluten allergies. We had such a great time, I've already booked the space for next years retreat. Wow! I stayed her for a 5 day retreat. The land was spectacularly beautiful. The views are breathtaking. The staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. The meals were outta this world! Everyone I thought would never be topped, yet the very next meal was even better (this is a lot from a person who is GF and sugar free among other random dietary restrictions, if you could eat everything I'm sure it was even better!). I really enjoyed the hot tub under a big oak tree and staying in the old bunkhouse lovingly restored, originally built in the late 1800s. I consider myself lucky to have been a guest here. read more

I had a wonderful time at the C.O.D. It is very rare to find a retreat center where you have both: the closeness to nature, with no traffic noises, and all the comfort you want. The rooms are designed in the southwest style and colors, just beautiful and comfortable. Bathrooms are clean and modern. The conference room is very spacious, and impeccable. I recently spent time here for a training and loved my time here! The accommodations were perfect for our group. The food was amazing and one of our group was vegetarian/gluten free--she was accommodated at each meal never feeling left out or hungry. The meeting room was perfect! beautiful scenery, cooler than tucson. the food is well-prepared, tasty and healthy. the cabins rustic but comfortable beds and good shower. very pleasant,responsive helpful staff. pool for a cooling dip, hot-tub later on and oh, the starry night sky. was visited by a bobcat who stood 4 feet away and we observed each other for a minute and a half. very large, spacious meeting hall with good lighting. i hope i will be returning. read more

I attended a 4-day conference at the COD and it was FANTASTIC. The food is OUTSTANDING and the staff accommodated gluten/dairy free as well as standard diets. The hiking trail is breathtaking, the pavilion has amazing views for classes, the round house is beautiful and the limited wi-fi/cell reception was a ++ in my book. I was with a 32 person strong group with Dr Steven Greer for a 6 day stay. The accommodations were comfortable and clean, if rustic; and that suited us just fine. The food was just incredibly amazing (desserts to die for, hell, every mean was to die for...) and staff was friendly and happy. This place is just wonderful, the staff are nice, polite and make you feel at home as soon as you arrive. The food is great! Can eat it all day. This place is also very peaceful and relaxing, the rooms are nice and very clean my kids loved it they had lots of fun! The pool is so clean also is the Jacuzzi. Very good place! We spent the weekend at the ranch for our son's wedding. It was the perfect spot for our small family gathering, with both inside and outside places to mingle, and a spectacular setting for the wedding itself. Headed up a group of 20+ at the Ranch for two nights. Staff was very attentive to every request. Meals were excellent. Dietary restrictions were accommodated. Rooms were clean, beds were comfortable and grounds were quiet and blooming. No complaints. Everyone had a great time. It was a good value. We hope to do it again. read more
