If I did not happen to be someone who keeps extensive records to immediately disprove the report point-by-point, that could have truly been a nightmare and caused substantial additional trauma for my daughter. The experiences with Casa did, unfortunately, make her very wary of mental or behavioral health services. 2) I am amazed and endlessly grateful to see the positive changes that have occurred since she stopped getting "help" from the Casa workers. Her confidence and activity levels have soared, she's so much less fearful and depressed and anxious and confused and isolated all the time. I truly wish I would have trusted my own knowledge and instincts and not let these "professionals" keep making my daughter and I feel like they know more about us and what we should do and feel and think than we do. I guess there's some silver lining out of this nightmare. I am thankful that, if nothing else, it definitely made us closer. It's hard for most teenagers to recognize what their parents do for them and appreciate it and see how much we care about them, but after seeing how awful and manipulative and biased and self-serving the employees were, it was really a wake up call for her. She's so much more appreciative and grateful and motivated for both the present and the future now. So I guess at the end of the day, Casa de los Ninos did help us, but unfortunately, it was through the damage caused by their professional incompetence, agenda-pushing, overreaching, undermining, and boundary-crossing.

Amber has three colleagues teaching out of this fledgling studio, offering a variety of classes, including two weekly All Bodies Rise classes that emphasize body positivity. The vibe in this studio is friendly and accessible, and the classes cater to all ability levels. I have attended practices led by two of the instructors (Amber and Emma), and they are without doubt two of the best yoga practices I've encountered in Tucson. Weekly practice under Amber's guidance has resulted in noticeable gains in my balance and flexibility. Emma's All Bodies classes have taught me to accept my bad knees and love what I can accomplish anyway. But wait, there's more: classes are affordable (even on this writer's grad student stipend) at $5 per class. For additional savings, a five-class punch card can be purchased for $20. Next door, Tucson Hop Shop will give you a dollar discount on your first post-yoga draft beer. Grounded Wellness is one of Tucson's hidden gems, and it will be exciting to watch this studio grow.

I recently met with the children and family services coordinator who told me they take women and children and offer daycare to residents, in order to provide job training for interested women. Both men and women are offered services. On campus is an El rio health clinic so people could get health services. There's food available. There's places to sleep. There's an intake counter for people in need, look for the Welcome center building. The gospel rescue mission is always in need of volunteers to do various things. Recently, I went in for a fantastic workshop that was art therapeutic related and I had a great time. Snacks and beverages were served and spending time there was relaxing and I made some new friends! I highly recommend paying this non-profit a visit because their cause is so important and what they do for our Tucson community is invaluable.

TROT is incredible! I truly cannot say enough about the services, staff, environment, and focus. I…read moream a disabled rider. At first, I was very hesitant to pursue "therapeutic" riding, expecting that I would have to endure constant reminders and corrections based on my disability. My expectations were absolutely unfounded. The staff is so expert at working with people with a range of disabilities that they don't need to harp on what we can't do. They focus exclusively on what we can do and push us to think like riders, not disabled riders. I'm just taking riding classes! Staff: The quality of the entire TROT staff is exceptional. Although everyone has a role, they all fill multiple roles and truly work as a team. Every individual's credentials are top-notch, with advanced degrees in fields such as education and social work, plus decades of riding and horse care, and without exception, passion for horses and for their clients. These are some of the most dedicated, caring, professional, skilled, and genuinely good people I've ever met. Instructors (also part of staff, but special note): My instructor is Dora, a natural horsewoman who takes nothing for granted. She trains regularly while teaching others. Dora notices the details and is ever-vigilant in keeping us safe while we are having the time of our lives. She makes classes enjoyable while making us work to become better riders. She treats everyone with the greatest respect, and is never too busy to answer questions, help a particular rider, or provide extra information. Dora exhibits extraordinary control, patience and passion, and makes lessons fun. I love learning from her! I have heard similar kudos about other instructors, and I don't doubt a word. Horses: The horses are screened and chosen carefully, and trained with an eye toward both the safety of the rider and happiness and comfort of the horse. Horses are hand-selected to match each rider, ensuring safety and comfort. They are all so gentle and beautiful, with a range of personalities and styles. Finding the right match is not difficult, and it's very easy to bond with them. They are clearly healthy, happy, well-cared-for horses who love what they do. I've also learned the extent to which the staff ensures that the horses are well taken care of, from their very specific, nutrient-laden diets to the grooming, quiet time, and horse-to-horse bonding. It's a wonderful life for a horse, and they are very much loved animals. Volunteers: People volunteer at TROT because they love the environment, horses, and incredible staff. The volunteers are there because they want to be, and it really shows. They are always there to help, protect the riders, and support the instructors. I don't know what we'd do without them! Environment: The ranch is accessible, beautiful, well-kept, and peaceful. It is ideally suited to the mission and activities of TROT, and encourages a back-to-nature feeling. I wish I could live there. Activities: It seems like there's always something happening at TROT! Before the pandemic, it was always bustling with classes and events. They don't just support the need to ride ... they fulfill a range of needs of their clientele. Plus, they offer special events just for fun and getting to know other riders and volunteers. A warm, fun, supportive environment! COVID: I've been really impressed with how well TROT has responded to the pandemic. They know that they're working with many people who are in vulnerable populations, and they've really taken that into consideration. From delaying classes to revamping the ranch and putting up sanitizing stations, to making their annual gala online and introducing new protocols for staff and volunteers, they are taking every measure to ensure everyone's health. This really speaks to how much they really do care about people. I've never written such a long review, but I've never had so many wonderful things to say! If you have a physical or emotional disability and are considering riding, don't hesitate to go to TROT - it will make your life so much better! If you're looking for an organization to support, donate to TROT! (And to be clear, my only connection to TROT is as a rider and occasional volunteer. I have no reason to write this review other than they have changed my life for the better, and I love this organization!)

The instructors are INCREDIBLE to say the least, and above all, patient, kind and genuine with the children (and adults!). They teach Spirit, Honor, Discipline, Truth, Bravery, Courtesy, Compassion, Sincerity, Discernment and Loyalty. I have watched as the bring "Little Dragons" to junior instructors and shape them into kind and polite, smart and disciplined individuals. They have multiple instructors each class, so no child is without attention. The self-defense teachings are sound and very memorable. They use repetition to create muscle memory defense while installing properties of awareness and discipline on when/when not to use it. They also have fun games like belt-sparring and dodge ball in all Little Dragons classes which keeps my children wanting to come back every week. The other families all get along and there has never been drama or "incompatibility" between the attending families. They all look after each other, help each other, and care deeply about one another. I will continue my self-defense Kenpo journey as long as I can with AIK. I have seen measurable positive impact on my own children and self since attending. They teach people of all ages without ANY discrimination. I truly love this place.
