There's just something about wandering through shelves of used books and wondering what little treasure you might discover. Staff members are always helpful. Gray Bear has some pretty great prices too! Paperbacks -- approximately $1.50 Hardcover books -- around $1.50 CDs -- roughly $2.50-$5.50-ish And look what I found! "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. $1.50! I can't wait to start reading it. The cover is gently worn and has that cozy, loved feeling that makes a used book feel almost like an old friend you've just met. I actually LOVE that about secondhand books. You can hold them and wonder who read them before you, where they traveled, and what memories might be attached to them. And if you have books, CDs or movies sitting around that you no longer read, listen to or watch, consider giving them a new home through Gray Bear. You can drop donations off at their Soquel location or at the Capitola Mall. One person's forgotten shelf treasure can become someone else's new favorite story. And apparently... I was ALL in at that point. Upon entering in, I knew I didn't want to go. They had cute cards you can mail out which I'm so old school I love it. I spent a good 30 minutes trying to find the perfect Santa Cruz card!! I grabbed so many and started narrowing it down and down. I ended up not picking any of them and found a really small unique card I fell in love with which was perfect for the theme I was going for!! This place has so many hidden TREASURES. I was rummaging through everything from vintage games, books, puzzles, trinkets, unique items and the dude found a mermaid shell the actually hatches a mermaid. I knew that was the perfect item to pair with my cute card!! A unique find in Santa Cruz which was awesome. While I was in awe of the store the dude found a Coney cup *insert love emoji eyes* I literally squealed my princess skirt off!! There was no way I was walking out the store without it. I think the dude and I spent about an hour in the store until I realized we had to go pick up my hat that was being done. The line wasn't too long for check out and the owners informed us that they barely put the Coney Line Friends cup out two or three days ago!! Just my luck. I let them know they need BROWN BEAR - CONEY'S true love! So they were pleased that someone bought it. The owners were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Their store made me fall in love with Santa Cruz and make the trip very special! It was clean organized and such unique items you won't find! I highly recommend you come and check it out. I'm not even sure if the younger generation even appreciates comic books like I do, but growing up comics were NOT considered cool, I remember getting made fun of for reading them, those days are long gone because of the movies and now everyone loves them. I've been coming to Atlantis since I was in middle school, I'm well into my early 40's now and hope this place never closes, the owner Joe is always at the shop, willing to help or order something he doesn't have. Truly an amazing place, I hope it sticks around for decades to come. Because comics are part of history and the contents of the comics are basis of many of the blockbusters that we enjoy today, thank you very much for the hospitality!

I'm so glad we just happened to park in the large parking lot next to this store. It was a delight. The store is much larger than it appears from the outside. Mainly because there's a whole second half you might not realize is there until you come in. The selection here is wonderful and the lay out newer issues in a very easy to browse way. The back issues are in your traditional long box that you need to flip through, but they're all labeled in a way that makes it easy to narrow down your search. While they did not have the specific issue I was looking for, they happily went online and found an online retailer that had it for a reasonable price. That's great customer service that no other store has ever shown me (including my own local comic book shop where I've been a regular for 10+ years). Even when I told them they didn't have to do that they insisted and had a site for me within a minute or two. I really appreciated that. The two workers were so friendly and helpful. When I mentioned I was from Los Angeles they asked where my local store was & immediately knew it and had nice things to say about the owner. You could tell they really loved what they did and the comic book community as a whole. While I don't know how often I will be in the area, if I am ever even remotely close I will absolutely come by again. This is one of the best shopping experiences I've has at a CBS outside of my area.

It's a quaint little shop with a great selection of books ranging from 50 cents and up. Yes, you read that right 50 cents!They also carry CDs and DVDs. The books range from acceptable to like-new condition. My wife and I walked out with 7 books and 2 CDs for $28, which is an insane deal. Friends of the Library groups are usually at every library in the Bay Area. They're kind people who volunteer their time to help sell books and fund local libraries. The workers here are all volunteers, so they're not getting paid they're there to support their community. Big props to all of them. If you're looking for a book in the Bay Area, I'd recommend stopping here first or checking out your local Friends of the Library shop before going to a for-profit used bookstore or buying online. I always raid their movies section, because I still collect physical media and I'm NOT on board with streaming, I never leave streetlight empty handed. The best part? NONE OF THIS IS CRAZY EXPENSIVE!
