Older, randomly annoyingly difficult mini golf course - at least it's clean. As a lover of all things putt putt, I'll try any mini golf course, even if externally it looks subpar. A Groupon made itself apparent for Mount Freedom, purchased, forgot about it, then months later found it and rode in my chariot to putt around the greens. Upon arrival, I realized "Oh, this is that somewhat crappy place I've driven past while going to pick apples and pumpkins every fall." But we were here, it was empty on a nice Saturday afternoon, so in we went. We got our worn-out mini golf balls with the quickness, found one very long putter for me and got to work. The greens themselves were small, clean, but felt a bit old. After playing for a bit, figured out the issue. You know when you're playing on a crappy pool table, have a shot perfectly straight, know there's no way the ball can't go in, yet somehow the ball ends up missing by 6 inches? This happened here on a dozen occasions. There's no good reason why it happens, but does - the green is worn out in areas, randomly bumpy in others, and putting becomes an exercise in frustration. I added some photos of the course itself to get your own opinion - it's a bit tacky, but I've seen worse. The blue water though was a bit sickly. Net net, it's a somewhat crappy mini golf course, which if you take your kids to they could easily end up very frustrated. It's clean, not that busy with a safe clientele, but it's nothing special at all. The ice cream store/restaurant next door could be very nice, but we didn't check that out.

Recently checked out their par 3 through groupon. The staff was friendly and helpful. I feel that the price reflects what should be expected of the course. The attire is totally casual, no push carts necessary, and you tee off on mats. They have tees placed on the mats like those you'd find for the driving range but they're either too high and/or in bad shape. So that's something to keep in mind if you don't like to hit directly off the mat. Luckily, I had different sizes with me that I used throughout. The holes, ranging from 55-100 yards, are close enough together that you can see all of them from the first hole. If you find yourself there with other groups, expect a slower pace just because you'll probably encounter a lot of beginners and folks either learning to play or practicing. The place cleared out during our back 9 so it was awesome; it felt like backyard golfing. I probably won't be coming back when our groupons are used up just because it's a drive from where I'm located but it's worth checking out if you're in town and/or looking to practice your short game.

    Seriously ?

Reserved an hour with Mike Mrugal, one of two golf pro instructors at this driving range. On the day of the lesson, I was running behind schedule and Mike was very accommodating to adjust his schedule, so I could get the full 60 minutes of instruction time. He was knowledgeable, patient, and attentive to my feedback. Provided some very simple and actionable tips that I could do on and off the golf course. It helped reinforce the good movements of my swing and build muscle memory. I definitely plan on going back to Mike after the season is over for some more tips to work on during the winter at the driving range. As for the location, it's a two-level driving range with different size of range ball buckets you can purchase (inside) for the ball machine (outside) reads the QR code on the receipt. The shop has the basics, in the event you forgot to bring something with you to the range. The lessons are taught in an enclosed shack that has a hitting mat and tv monitor for the instructor to provide instant feedback on your swing...nothing high-tech, but it is sufficient to visualize & communicate what you are doing right or wrong. Definitely I'll be visiting this place more often!!

I thought it was just an indoor simulated golf, but they have much more stuff for an entertaining outing. It is decorated nicely and was clean; it was larger than what I expected. There are plenty of golf simulators with state-of-the-art simulators with some high tech software that gives you endless options of all the great golf courses around the globe. The best part I like is that you don't have to bend over to place the ball on a tee...it does it all for you. Plenty of TVs to watch all the games...was watching baseball and football. They also cater and you can rent some semi private areas for parties or corporate work related events. Nicely stocked bar and they have a food menu. The bartender was friendly and provided great customer service. This is definitely a hidden gem, especially during football season. However I was surprised that it wasn't more people there with all the TVs, golf, and other games that they have available to enjoy...shuffleboard, corn hole, and others.

It's a beautiful place - the holiday decorations were beautiful and tasteful - not over the top. We had lunch in the main dining room - a table overlooking the lake. The views were wonderful since it was a gorgeous sunny (albeit cold) day. We had a wonderful time - it is always nice getting away from the office and forgetting about work for at least a short time. The buffet lunch was pretty good. We especially loved those olive rolls - I would love to take some home with me...LOL (They remind me of the olive rolls I get at the Summit Farmers Market in the summer.) Food was good, and the chocolate cake was great. I just wish service had been on par with what was expected from a country club. When a latecomer arrived, they weren't even offered a drink until much later. (The waitress had JUST brought someone else a drink, and completely ignored the newly arrived guest.) Many times we also had to get rid of our own plates. It wasn't until we were ALL completely finished with dessert that coffee was offered. It's really a shame that it had to end on that note, but perhaps it was just an off day. I would try it again and give them another chance.

Only issue were golfers parked in the area where we would pull in for valet parking. Valet workers had to ask them to move so we could approach front door. It seems there was a communication issue. Many attendees parked in the lots themselves and had to walk quite a distance in heels with gifts. They saw so many cars piled up and parked in the entrance that they assumed there was not valet parking available.

Which was great because the lot was very full. There are two walk up windows to check in. I walked up to the window and had to wait literally 1 min; the line was short and quick. The girl found my reservation went over paper work that needed to be filled out, was very friendly and helpful. I will say the other girl was not particularly friendly. They're talking to you threw a window and I am partially deaf, when I asked the girl to repeat the last thing she said she was so annoyed she spoke in short sentence like I was dumb. And just before she helped me there was another group of girls that seemed to be very annoyed with her because she refused to help them. Like I said there were two lines and they were in her line but she wanted to help the gentlemen infront of me in the other line. Idk why, he wasn't even paying attention and only needed to drop his car keys off. Whatever. We grabbed our life vests, got our overview of the river and quickly hopped on a very nice, 12 pax van. It was about a 10 min ride to the drop off area which wasn't bad. I really liked that the staff grabs your kayak and paddle and brings it to the water. All you have to do is sit down and paddle away. There is another company that shared the drop off area so just be aware that you don't get the wrong kayak lol The DR is beautiful. The water is so nice and clean. There are lots of places to stop off at to eat lunch or take a swim. There were a lot of people camping along the banks. So be mindful of that when pulling off to a beach. When we go to our pick up location it was just as smooth as our drop off spot. You just paddle to the beach and a staff grabs your kayak and pulls you in. You take your things and they take the kayak and paddle. At the top of the stairs you just walk to the right and the van is waiting to take you back. Overall, wonderful company to book a kayak or raft from to enjoy the beautiful river. In highly recommend and will rebook with them. I recommend wearing a hat and water shoes and bringing a cooler for drinks and snacks.

(This was a few months ago so the details could be a bit iffy.)…read more This was a very impromptu trip and everything at Edge of the Woods makes doing that easy. Head to the website, book the date & time you want and you're done. www.watergapadventure.com/river-trips A few things worth noting: They offer multiple trip lengths. The standard 4-, 6- and 10-mile trip (Smithfield to Portland) are all booked generically and then when you get there you tell them what you want to do. All pricing is the same which believe me compared to others companies, that's very different - in a good way. They do offer two other longer trips but those require calls to the main office I assume to assess river conditions; your own competency and shuttle availability. The main office in Delaware Water Gap is very easy to find and there was plenty of parking on a quiet post-Labor Day Monday. You check in, you're handed a laminated map, life jacket and given a brief route explanation and then you're off in the van. One problem arose and it was kind of a PIA but it was worked around. Most companies have different types/sizes/models of kayaks and quite often, will ask you what you prefer. Not here. When we left the office, the guy driving didn't say a word to me until we get to Smithfield Beach to unload. He had a few kayaks pre-loaded in the carrier but definitely did not look at them before we left. One of them had a broken foot pedal that he said couldn't be used, another was very much designed for a smaller individual (i.e. if you're taller and/or taller & larger it ain't happening safely) which only left two tandem models. Using a tandem as a single individual is not the end of the world but especially when the seats are still left in the two person configuration (i.e. one front and one back versus the rear one being placed more towards the middle), it's a PIA to maneuver the craft and you are paddling harder to get the job done compared to a single. The scenery along the route was decent. You could see a bit of the Shawnee Resort and Golf Course, an old stone bridge abutment in the middle of the river, under and along 80 and then when you get into the Water Gap itself with the high cliff sides. Very picturesque. Once you go under the old train viaduct in Portland, you give the office a call for the shuttle to meet you at the out point which is at the Portland Pedestrian Bridge. The whole experience was about four hours door to door to cover the ten miles on the water plus the shuttle to & from the pick up and drop off points. Lots of nice scenery, due to the low water level there wasn't much in the way of current except for the area around viaduqt in Portland and even that wasn't bad. I'm not a big fan of the equipment here but I wouldn't let that deter me from coming back in the future for one of their northern longer trips.
