I expected this spot to be similar to the Moulin in Laguna Beach, which I love. But this is not as cozy nor inviting once you step inside. The location is fabulous and there is plenty of outdoor seating but there is only one table inside and it feels similar to a cafeteria rather than a cafe or French bistro. I'm not sure if the omelettes are pre-made, since I asked for a vegetarian omelette with no eggplant or zucchini and was told it couldn't be done (something about cutting it into slices ...?). So, instead I had the beet salad from the cold case which came with a delicious dill dressing although not an impressive presentation. Unfortunately, I don't plan to return to this Moulin. read more

Pricey but worth it. I picked up some desserts from here for a dinner and everything was excellent specially the Mille Feuille and Tiramisu. The 3rd one was a chocolate dessert (a round one). I love French bakeries. We were visiting Dana Point and had to come here on the way home. It was almost lunch time on a weekday and the outdoor seating was packed. We only waited on line for 5 mins though. I tried to be good and picked up a mille-feuille plus 1 loaf of fresh bread. They were very nice to help describe the breads available and confirmed for us the ingredients since we have a kid with food allergies. We took everything to go and they packed it all well. Bread was perfectly crisp on the edges and soft in the middle. The mille-feuille was a nice portion size and decadent. They are a chain so I'll be back for more. read more

French cafe and market right next to Salt Creek. Came here on on a Saturday around 1pm and there was a short line, but it moved fairly quickly and we were able to grab an outdoor table for two. You order first and then they provide you with a number placard for your table. Parking is available in the small lot. Credit cards are accepted. Casual dress code (I wore a swimsuit top and shorts with no complaints). Outdoor dining only. The croissant breakfast sandwich I ordered came with a side of green salad. I had the choice of bacon or ham and opted for the ham. It was like a small omelet slid between a croissant, with a small bit of melted cheese inside. It was fairly filling but you could probably eat more. The small chocolate tart was cute and not too sweet, which is good if you want something decadent but not saccharine. read more

I had an enjoyable experience having brunch here. I ordered the L'Omelette Paysanne with bacon (or you can choose ham), onions, and potatoes, and a coffee. The omelette was fluffy, with plenty of bacon which was not greasy. There were purple and white potatoes inside, perhaps heirloom potatoes? The omelette was served with a small side salad and dressing (seemed like a French version of balsamic) to the side, with a little piece of toasted artisan bread and a packet of strawberry preserves. Everything tasted delicious. In terms of quantity of food, they don't overfeed you. For the coffee, if you want milk, or half and half, ask for room in your cup - they have canisters outside for usage. I liked their coffee and felt like it would have been better if I ordered a larger size. FYI: all tables and seats are located outside (the inside is for ordering and showcases their baked goods). Even though there were plenty of people there, the noise level wasn't bad at all. The chatter from other patrons felt lively, but at the same time, mellow. I aim to return. read more

So... it was absolutely pouring outside and the wind was gusting and pushing umbrellas over and the water was streaming inside this little place. But inside... oh, inside it was warm and welcoming and they were hustling like anything to keep it cozy and dry inside. Our crepe was delicate and delicious with a hint of lemon and sugar. Our croque madame was luscious and flavorful - we had the perfect mix of sweet and savory here. OH, and those little donut holes (called something else in French) - they were magic!! Let's talk about parking: plenty of free parking both in the lot of the Small strip mall, and street parking. Love the location right next to the Ritz Carlton and Salt Creek Beach. Menu: Excellent options. Something for everyone. You have choices of : crepes, sandwiches on baguette, omelets , pastries , brunch options, lunch options. Soups. It has it all. My bestie choose a French onion soup, and a Croissant with Egg , bacon and heaven in one's mouth. Need I say more? I ordered the same omelette sandwich on a croissant, add almond Croissant, and expresso. Add in some Awesome Customer Service , great location and Ambiance and what do you get? We ate here twice when we started at Ritz carlton. It is an easy walk from the hotel. The prices are reasonable. All their pastries and dessert are tasty. I loved their French onion soup. Dana Point, CA Cute small French inspired cafe near the Ritz Carlton, a few parking spots are available just outside. For my first visit, I stopped in for a salad and the Caesar pesto chicken salad was so fresh and the chicken cooked perfectly. The whole pine nuts as a garnish were a surprise. I also tried a Mini croissant and a Mini Apricot Danish... They are $2 each and when I say mini they are so tiny and cute and would easily fit in the palm of your hand. It is nice to try the little mini pastries without indulging in a large one. I wish I remember the gal's name who helped me because she was so nice...I want to say Ruth but I don't think that is correct. BTW, I tried the salad and pastries a few days later at the much larger NPB location and they were not nearly as good, the chicken on the salad was a lot tougher and not as moist and soft, and the pastries did not taste as fresh. Fantastique! We were staying at the Ritz and it was a short 3-minute walk away. I'm a sucker for French breakfast cafes and this did not disappoint at all. That croque madame looked amazing but I didn't think I was hungry enough to finish the whole thing, so I ordered the crossaint sandwich with bacon egg and cheese. There is no picture because I dove right into it. So good! It came with a little salad and balsamic which I had later in the day and it was the perfect amount of greens when you really need them. I went over the moon with glee when I saw they carried Orangina. I hadn't had that in years and it's one of my favorite drinks. Paired that with a bottle of bubbly and we had one fine-ass brunch to go! There were two fruit tarts left and we were lucky enough to score them. They were f-ing incredible. My only disappointment, and why I gave them a 4 star, is the outside tables. They look bistro-ish but are the worst. They are unstable at best. I can't tell you how often I have spilled my or my wife's drink. Another small issue is the coffee accouterments. No flavors and no vegan cream for us potato eaters. My new favorite local french café. Even though they have 5 other locations in OC, this place still feels cozy and neighborly. They're right on the corner of PCH and Ritz Carlton Dr./Niguel Rd. They only have outdoor seating but there's plenty of tables in the sunshine for cooler months and umbrellas to shield you from the summer sun. I often see herds of bicyclists stop here during their long rides on PCH. This is counter style ordering not a full service restaurant. My go to here is a café au lait and butter croissant - their butter croissants are the best! Their breakfast is also so flavorful. I've had their ham and cheese omelette and it was full of flavor. They also have french baguette sandwiches which is perfect to take to the beach. There's another popular french-esque restaurant/café not too far away in Dana Point, and I think Moulin surpasses them in authenticity, quality and flavor, though the former is more popular likely because it's full service and in a bustling location. read more

I love this place whenever my sweet tooth kicks in. Easy parking, right next to the beach, and a homey & very French feel when eating outside & ordering inside. The service is always great here, always helpful, as fast as possible, and always on the move. Moulin as well as BREAD are the only two places that I will buy any sort of gluten from, as I can't tolerate refined & enriched flour and I want quality bread. We come here weekly with Mom's and kids who LOVE your lemon sugar crepe. We also buy the Tuna niçoise, Chicken Pesto, and yummy salads and love your delicious raisin croissants. However; today I came in to purchase 3 lemon sugar crepes and was told they been taken off the menu because you do not sell enough of them. I understand food cost because I was in the business for 40 years but a lemon is not too expensive to keep on hand for those who prefer lemon as opposed to Nutella, strawberry or apricot jam! I had heard rave reviews about the flagship location in Newport Beach, so we had to stop by this one as we were exploring Dana Point and were headed to the beach. This is definitely a rather small location, but it still packs a punch. They still have a large selection of pastries and cakes and their menu items are all day, which is dope because breakfast is my favorite meal any time of day! I visited Moulin with family and we ordered an assortment of goodies, including some French Onion Soup, different kinds of Omelettes, Croque Madames, and a large slice of cake. Every item was so delicious -- not too salty but still flavorful, hearty and filling. The French Onion Soup is a must-try and really hit the spot. I also really enjoyed the Croque Madame, as it was so well-balanced with the ham, cheese and egg portions. The staff members here were friendly and helpful. We went to this lovely French patisserie (bakery/restaurant) in Dana Point by the Ritz Carlton for a quick breakfast/brunch with our Labor Day weekend house guests before they departed back to NorCal. The broad pastry offering reminded me of a fine patisserie in France. The items we ordered tasted as good as they looked (which was spectacular). We had coffees as well, and these were well-prepared, although the barista queue was slightly backed-up. The shop also offers some cooked items (eggs, etc...), and our friends' daughter chose to have a savory crepe. The crepes were made to order and took no time to serve. She devoured it before her mom could even get a bite - exceptionally well played by the young lady. My only negative would be that the outdoor seating, while nicely laid out and well-shaded, was not especially comfortable due to the worn furniture. They use folding bistro sets that had seen better days. The chairs are a bit small and the tables are wobbly - a coffee spill risk for certain. While we were there, the furniture presented an issue for an older couple at a nearby table. They ultimately decided to take their food to-go as the woman could not get comfortable. Regardless, I highly recommend this lovely little gem, along with their other locations around Orange County. My wife and I will certainly return to explore other items in their offering. read more

We ordered the smoked salmon sandwich, black cherry clafoutis, and quiche Lorraine. The pretzel bread was nice and soft, perfect with the salmon! Dill sauce on point, not too much, not too little, just enough in every bite to make you crave one more taste of it. The black Cherry Clafoutis was so delightful! Very light, with an aromatic hint of almond to tease your palate then the cherries bring about a next level burst of subtle sweetness. All very delicious so far! The quiche Lorraine is nice and hearty with generous portions of diced ham and perfectly blended cheese. It comes with a side of mixed greens - which was the failure of this visit. We work in food and hospitality and completely shocked that this wilted salad made it out of the kitchen! This was a to go order so there's no recourse when we leave the property then open a box up to such sad greens! We will visit again, but for sure, there's a lesson to be learned here. We drive by this place all the time on the way to the beach but are usually too late to make it before they close. Today, we took an early break from work and finally stopped in for the first time. Boy, am I glad we did!!!! Upon walking in, there are some interesting boxed goodies at the front, wines to the right, and a delicious-looking selection of pastries and sandwiches towards the back. I felt like a kid in a French candy store. Chocolate cookies? Oui oui! Chocolate biscuits?! Oui oui! We got the chicken and mushroom omelette and croque monsieur to eat outside. But we also got a hazelnut tart, chocolate tart, strawberry/white chocolate cake and a coffee eclair to go. Eating with our eyes much?? Probably. Especially after a long run at the beach! WOW everything was so good. My favorite was the croque monsieur because the edges are crispy burnt cheese. NOM!! Everything was just perfect and even the customer service was so friendly. I have been to Moulin several times for the food and the convenience. The place is a walking distance from where we stay when in Dana Point. I tried several of their pastries - egg custard pie (i think that's what it's called), almond croissant, chocolate croissant, eclair and others. Also tried their sandwiches - chicken pesto sandwich, egg sandwich and ham & cheese which are all on baguettes. All the pastries & sandwiches I tried were great but pricey. I ordered 2 almond croissants, a chocolate croissant, a slice of the egg custard pie, ham & cheese sandwich and a chicken pesto sandwich. My total tab was $45+ without tip. When I go there to grab some croissants (chocolate & almond), my tab is usually around $18+. Much as I would like to eat their croissants every day, I only occasionally indulge not only for the calories but also the price. To get served one forms line and someone helps to take your order as you view the choices. It usually goes pretty fast. The shop has several tables and chairs outside and a couple inside. The setting is like a French sidewalk cafe / bakery. I would definitely recommend but don't over order or you'll be surprised when you pay your tab. read more
