This is my first encounter with Motorwerkes and honestly my first impression was not a good one. I booked a service for a front and rear differential and a transfer case service. I left my car there at approximately 8:30 - 8:45 a.m. I was told that they required the car for the whole day. I was called at approximately 3:40 pm informing me that my car would be ready by 4:30 p.m. While en route to their location from out of town I received another phone call from Motorwerkes at approximately 4:10 p.m. explaining that the services that I commissioned them to perform could not be completed, they were only able to complete the transfer case service, as their person who was tasked with my job, got "hung up on a brake job that took extra time". Now I did receive an apology, thank you, along with a interesting statement that "my car does not require the front and rear differential service until 90k". Now that may be true, but to me this appears as some form of justification to not do this part of the service when they are encountering an internal issue. The point is, whether I needed the service or not (and clearly you had no problem charging me for the transfer case component of the requested service) that excuse is irrelevant. So here's my position. I live out of town, I had my wife follow me to your business so I could get a ride back home, she also obliged to take me back to your business to pickup the car that we thought, by all intents and purposes was going to be completed. She expended gas and her time to do this for me. This was an inconvenience. Now I understand that things happen in business, I was a business owner for 30 years, but my curiosity piques wondering what happened in 30 minutes from my job supposedly being completed to partially completed? So with that said, I would have just gotten the job done. Whether it be an overtime scenario or an all hands on deck situation. I would go the extra mile, even if I lost money on the job, just to honour my commitment and to hold my reputation in good stead, but that's just me. I closing, they say first impressions matter. No longer on warranty, I went looking for a place where I could get an oil change for my BMW X5 that was a bit more cost effective. I was pleased with the price quoted from Motorwerkes and how quickly they were able to get my car in. I was impressed as soon as I entered the shop. The front staff was very professional and courteous . The lounge was comfortable. They finished the work quicker than anticipated. I received an itemized list of what was done and what they felt I might need in the future. I was impressed with the service that was done in the bright, clean and spacious service area. I have been taking my BMWs to Parm at Motorwerkes for years. He has become my family's mechanic as well as a few friends. It's primarily a BMW shop, and they have licensed technicians and the appropriate equipment. This is the place to go to have a pre-purchase inspection done on a car you're looking to by--as Parm is meticulous and detailed, and will provide no-BS cost analysis. The shop rate is high, but no higher (and often less) than any qualified BMW shop in the city. You're paying to get the job done right the first time. In Calgary, there are only a small handful of good BMW shops. This is the one I go to. I've had three M3s in there, for everything from Inspection II to clutch and everything in between. Needing an assessment for a cosmetic issue with my car, I didn't want to take my car to the dealership because I knew it'd take me forever to get an appointment and there'd probably be a huge upcharge. A close family friend of mine used to take his BMW to Parm and highly recommended Motorwerks so I gave them a call and they able to fit me in right away! My initial appointment didn't take longer than an hour, and they did a full once over of my car. Parm went over the report, gave me suggestions on what milestone maintenance I should do. Hailee (their amazing admin) was able to book me in within the next week for the services I needed and they were done at a reasonable time and cost. Although I dont drive the nicest, newest BMW in the world, Parm and his staff at motorwerkes are always more than helping and willing to give me the best service out there ! Him and his staff most certainly know their stuff and the speed in which they finish the work is unbelievable. This shop is very honest with me, they will tell me what needs to be done but wont hassle me to get it done. They will tell me what my priorities for maintenance and repairs should be and I trust them ! I was referred to Motorwerkes by an acquaintance. They serviced my BMW. Work was subpar. They do state the lowest hourly rate in Calgary. After shopping around, I found they do take longer to finish a job than most of their competitors. Motorwerkes is not a good deal. I had to take my BMW to another service center to complete some work they missed. I have concluded all Calgary independent Import service centers to be about the same price after all said and done. There is no 'great deal' BMW service center in Calgary. Mind as well go to an authorized service center. You do pay a little more but they stand behind their work. You are treated in a professional manner. And, they do have the Manufacturer standing behind them. read more
