I've been taking my Africa Twin to Shohei since I got it new (2+ years now). Since then I've done all my routine maintenance with him. He's always been extremely friendly, punctual and prices were much less than a dealer (one man shop = less overheard = lower prices). All while the quality of work remains excellent. Things I've had Shohei do to my bike; 2 tire changes, tubeless kit, aux lights wiring, GPS wiring, brake pads, pannier rack, high fender kit, new seats, routine oil changes, chain servicing and a few other minor upgrades done with him. I went in on Friday for a oil leak and at first he said he could do the job by Monday. Monday came and he never called me. I called him today and said he needed me to come in to test drive the bike because he couldn't. I came in he charged me $89 for a new oil filter and a few bolts. He still hadn't even fixed the leak! He said it would cost me another $60-$100 afterwards and never mentioned any of this at the beginning. He then got angry and aggressive towards me as I remained calm. He then said he wouldn't fix the oil leak and pushed me out of there. He also lost the cap for my toolkit and removed himself from any responsibility. Extremely unprofessional and poor communication. My friend found this shop on Yelp and with all the glowing reviews I took my Ninja 250 here when I couldn't start it anymore. Within about a week I was able to get my bike back. It seemed like the problem was the carburetor needed cleaning and he also found a small hole in one of the screws somewhere in the engine. His English isn't great so forgive me that my explanation isn't very detailed. My boyfriend also brought his bike here after being screwed over so many times with Del Amo Motorsports (never, ever go there!). All he needed was his front brakes to be bleeded and Shohei was able to do that in a day. Shohei prices are very fair, he estimated around $200 and I paid about $190. I remember my bike being dusty but when I picked up the bike it was nice and clean. He went the extra mile to wipe it down for me! I will definitely recommend him to any of my two-wheeled owning friends. read more

Been here with my last bike. He seemed like someone who was meticulous and did everything right. Boy was I wrong, I had him do a couple things I thought would come out perfectly. Had him install new grips, and wheel tape. That's it! And he couldn't even it correctly! Could've I done this myself? Yes. But, since I wanted it done quickly and by a "professional" figured, I'd just take it to him. Got my bike back at night, he was closing so I hopped on and rhode him. Once I got to my garage, noticed there was an EXCESSIVE amount of grip glue caked all over my handle bars and oozing out of the grips. Then, my wheel tape looked terrible!!! Uneven all throughout the wheel. Disappointing. If I wanted my wheel tape to look like crap I would've just don't rushed it myself! Will not be returning here for any big or small job. I brought my bike in today to get my kickstand cut and Shohei did a wonderful job. It took him about an hour to cut and weld the kickstand together. The reason why it took an hour is because after he cut the base of the kickstand off, he would cut a bit of the bar part, then would put it back on the bike to make sure he didn't cut it too much. He repeated this process until the length was perfect. He also color painted the kickstand after everything was done so it doesn't even look like it's been cut. He also fixed my rear break since it wasn't working well and also loosened the chain because the chain was too tight. Everything took maybe about 2 hours, and he charged me $80 even. The place is filled with bikes, so I understand he is a busy guy. Two weeks later, I picked up the bike and it was not only running perfectly, but cleaner than when I dropped it off. Shohei seems like an honest guy. There is definitely a language barrier when it comes to getting work done. As a guy who worries about the work I'm getting on my bike or car, Shohei doesn't seem to have the patience to sit there and discuss with you what work he is doing exactly. He did do few things here and for me for free, since I've already spent 2000 dollars just on labor getting my crankshaft case rewelded. Long story short, he installed an engine which was dyno tested as working, but when Shohei installed it, he said it wasn't a working one. I spent more in labor than I did in the actual parts or work done on the bike. His prices are somewhat fair from the little shopping I did around here. He does take a long time to turn a bike around because he does everything himself. I haven't seen a helper or an assistant of any type in the shop. He does seem to take great care in the work he does, only, it's a mystery since you'll never know what he's doing to your ride. Go there if you have the time to leave your bike and do some other things for a few days. If you're in a hurry, such as an oil change, maintenance and tune ups that you need done in one day, make an appointment with bigger bike shops around the neighborhood and get it done all in one day. Yeah, you'll pay the premium, but if you're like me and your motorcycle is your only mode of transportation to work and back (I have a car for local uses only), then I strongly suggest you get your work done at some other place. read more

This place is a one man show. It's a very rustic and quaint shop with a collection of cool vintage Japanese bikes. He seems to ride Baja pretty frequently. I took my one year old bike for a 24k service. It's the one where all fluids need to be changed, valve clearance check, spark plugs, air filter, etc. I stopped by Monday to see if it can be done in one day. He gave me a few days where he did not have anything scheduled and could dedicate the whole day to my bike. I chose Friday and told him I'll be bringing in my own parts. Smash cut to Friday morning @9am. I drop off the bike with the parts. I told him I would be back at 5pm. He said he will try his best to finish by then. I get a call a couple hours later reporting that a valve was out of spec and he would be removing the cam. He already warned me on Monday about the extra charge if that happened. i didn't get a call at 5, but stopped by anyway to find my bike waiting for me outside. He spent a few minutes explaining what he found wrong--valve clearance numbers, kinks in my chain, air filter had a little life left, etc. Very meticulous work done at fair prices. He seemed to have a very sharp sense for diagnosing problems. He said my idle sounded rich and recommended a custom map if I wanted it to run better. This is definitely one of those old school shops that are increasingly difficult to find as older motorcycle guys retire. edit: I dealt with him entirely in Japanese. read more

The reviews made me skeptical of this business but I decided to give the owner a call a few months ago for a price on installing tires on my bike. Fast forward a few months after waiting for my tires to arrive due to being out of stock I called the owner again and confirmed how much it would be and he quoted me the same price! I bring my wheels and tires to him the next day and we are in the middle of transporting the goods to his shop and I ask him if I can pay right now. He quotes me a higher price which than I call him out on it and that I literally spoke to him yesterday. He argues a bit with me and walks away mid conversation to start shuffling my stuff back to my car without saying another word. I was absolutely stunned by this interaction as I've never even had something like this happen to me much less from a small business. Absolutely disgusting and shady business ran here. Another bad review mentioned this bait and switch tactic which why I specifically called the day before months later to confirm the price. I would gladly pay double to get service somewhere else than come here to get suckered for a few extra bucks off some grumpy old man. Its not easy for me to write a poor review. I believe in supporting small shops and local services but the owner of Moto Whoops is simply unprofessional as a mechanic. I would caution anybody considering getting work done here. I went in for a simple tire patch after picking up a nail on the freeway. The service was fairly priced and very fast but upon returning for pick up I found my electrical system and speedometer to be not working. When I confronted the owner to ask what had happened he became defensive at laughed at me, accusing me of trying to exploit his labor. I told him that I couldn't ride safely with out a speedometer and that It was working fine before I dropped off the bike. I told him I was happy to pay for the repair but he refused my business. I walked away frustrated and with a motorcycle worse off then when I started. A good Bike Shop who you can trust is a rare thing. I've come across a few in my time riding and Moto Whoops is definitely not one. read more

Shohei is fantastic! He is extremely professional and knowledgeable. My most recent problem consisted of a broken valve stem, my tire was dangerously low and was unable to fill it up. I needed my bike to get to work the next day and figured that he wouldn't be able to fix it, being that I arrived at his shop at 530p and he was closing soon... he was all ready working on another customers bike at the time to make matters more difficult.. So he told me to come back at 7p - 730p which was after his posted closing time. He contacted me at 630p to my surprise, to let me know that it was fixed. What a relief! I took my 2001 Katana 600 to a shop on 190th and Inglewood to fix the hard start and idle issues, and the guy charged me $450 to do what amounted to nothing. Bike kept getting worse, so upon a recommendation from a friend I took the bike to Moto Whoops. The owner, quickly pre-diagnosed the issue and got it fixed in a day. Made some service recommendations in the future that would extend the life of the bike (60,000 miles) but weren't necessarily required due to additional cost. Others might've done the work without consulting and jacked up the fee. Fixed the carbs, resynced them, fixed the intake and exhaust line problems. Out the door for under $200. Bike now runs better than when I bought it. Totally recommend the place to anyone who needs an honest technician to work on their bike. read more

This is a great place to have work done on your bike. I am only basing this on the work I had done. Shohei did a good job replacing my front tire and front brake pads. I brought my own parts and he put them on. Shohei seems knowledgeable about all bikes (mine is a Harley) and he is most likely an expert in Japanese bikes. The work was flawless and he totally cleaned the calipers for the brakes. He had said they were not working smoothly. It is that extra care that really separates an average mechanic from a really good one. I was in and out in an afternoon. I arranged the time by phone ahead of time. I highly recommend this. Shohei is nice and honest, he charges by the work he does not by the hour unlike others. I've been coming here for 7 yrs now and so has my husband. He had to rebuild my husband's bike from just the frame at one point and works just like a new bike. I usually call ahead of time before I stop by and what you know....no wait lol. When I picked up the bike, he provided an explanation as detailed as what the exact valve clearance was for each of the valves. Shohei is really knowledgeable about bikes and very friendly as well. brought my bike in for a coolant flush and it wasn't terribly expensive...about $50 for parts and labor which took about an hour and he even did a inspection of my bike for me while he was at it. good thing he did do an inspection...cuz he caught something that i would never have noticed. he noticed that my Throttle cables were loose...coulda been real bad news and my bike coulda been like those runaway Prius'. so in a way, Shohei is a lifesaver!!!
