I purchased an electric bike from Mike a couple of weeks ago and am very happy with the purchase... so happy that my wife is purchasing one this weekend!
I've seen his bikes for sale on the local SLO Buy, Sell Trade on FB and decided to reach out. He owns a shop near Clovis but has a second home in Pismo with a smaller shop and several bikes for sale. You can tell that he cares for his biles and for his customers; he is knowledgeable about the options and will listen to your needs to help you decide what's right. After riding several of his pre-built or converted bikes as well as several bikes at Trinity and Foothill, I decided that I would purchase my own bike and have Mike convert it. Both Trinity and Foothill told me that I "wouldn't want/need throttle assist" and tried to sell me a 500 watt ebike. I test rode many and realized that what I was shown and told that I needed wasn't what I wanted... I'm a bigger guy and want a bike that I can tow a kids Burley trailer with two young kids (5 and 4 y/o). I figured that I would need at least a 750 watt mid-drive to get the kids up the hills with ease. I figured that I would rather have the power and not need it then the other way around.
I purchased a Trek Marlin 6 and Mike added the Bafang BBSHD 1000w mid drive with a 48v 17.5 ah battery. Mike ordered the parts and finished the install in a week and I couldn't be happier! I can turn the pedal assist down or off if I want a pure workout and when I'm towing up hills I can do so with ease. 1000w was probably overkill but the price difference was worth it.
If your considering an ebike talk to Mike... go ride a dozen or so to see what you are looking for but definitely talk to Mike. Yes, Bosch is recognized as an awesome motor but there's a reason that companies like Luna Cycle use Bafang and Mike can talk you through the rest. You can great ebike for under $1500... mins came out to about $2700 (with the purchase of the bike) and it's comparable (in many ways superior) to a $5000+ bike. read more
