Jon cares about the safety of his patrons, so much so that when in need of a new chain, he mentioned that it might not be such a good idea because my cassette had worn to the point of not being able to utilize one. Even though my bike was in only for a quick front derailleur adjustment, he checked the brakes, the entire drivetrain and called to tell me what he had encountered. Believe me, this kind gentleman doesn't need my business; his shop is filled with customers, bikes, gear and a healthy dose of goodwill. So, Jon's concern for my safety wasn't a marketing tool. I needed to replace my valve on my racing bike tire the day before the Morro Bay Triathlon. He (I am pretty sure the owner) replaced both mine and my wife's tire valves in about 5 minutes. I was able to buy an awesome helmet and padded gloves and a water bottle holder, which he also installed for me on the spot. It was very reasonably priced and I set a personal best on my leg of the relay. Very happy for all the help I received. The water bottle and holder was a life saver at mile 10!! Did a loop ride from Avila Beach to Morro Bay. Got a flat 4 miles into the ride so I replaced the tube and continued on. When I arrived in Morro Bay I checked the tire and found that the only tube I had dropped 40 psi and the tires was well beyond any future use so I needed to find a bike shop. Checked yelp and found Red Tail Bikes so I rode over went in and I was impressed. I was first met by Remi, the local shop dog, who eyed me up one side and down the other...once I removed the helmet and glasses, he realized that I was just another cyclist and not a sheep to be herded. so he let me be. This small shop was clean and neat with a huge variety of bikes and parts. John asked if I needed help, and I explained my issue, told him I needed a 700x25c tire and a new tube. After checking out 3 different brands, I selected the Conti 5000 along with a buna-n tube although vinyls and plastic were also available. John loaned me a stand and pump so I set to work replacing the rear tire and tube. John is very approachable, knows his business and is ready to help without overcharging. In fact the prices are very reasonable. Sometimes it's not about the destination but rather the journey...John gets it! Congratulations on the successful shop and good luck in the future. read more

I've gone to Jon at Red Tail Bikes a couple of times now. Most recently he correctly identified a cause of cracking/squeaking noises that seemed to be coming from the frame sometimes, and fixed it. Although Red Tail Bikes is fairly new, I've known Jon for a few years when he was manager of another shop in the county. He worked on my bikes several times during that period and always did good work at reasonable prices. So glad he's in Morro Bay now, just 5 minutes away! read more

Jon, owner of Red Tail Bikes is Great! Knowledgeable, skilled, and professional, not to mention incredibly friendly and easy to talk to and deal with. This is a GREAT bike shop! My girlfriend had purchased a couple of older bikes from an estate sale, but they were in need of servicing to get them in riding shape. She left me a box of inner tubes and several tires, but I was completely lost about what parts when with which bike and how to get it all put together. "No problem", said Jon. I was afraid it would take weeks, but he had the tires and inner tubes on, and the bikes adjusted and lubed to great working order in two days!
