I stayed at Motel 6 East in York, PA for an extended period under difficult circumstances. I was in the process of relocating 570 miles away for a new job with just one week to pack up a two-bedroom house, two large dogs, and two cats. I chose this motel because it was one of the few that allowed pets and appeared to meet my needs. However, my experience was far from acceptable. Booking and Check-In: I reserved a room online and clearly mentioned that I had two large dogs and two cats. When I arrived at 2:30 AM after a long drive, I reiterated this information at the front desk. The staff confirmed everything was fine, took my payment, and handed over the key. So far, so good. Room Condition: Upon entering the room, I was horrified by the condition. It smelled strongly of cat urine and stale cigarette smoke. while I understood people with pets used smoking rooms the smell was overwhelming. The floor, door handles, and light switches were sticky to the touch. There were visible stains, possibly bodily fluids, splattered on the walls, light switches, and floor. The bedspread was riddled with cigarette burns, and to top it off, there were roaches. Lots of them. I had to spend the first three hours of my stay cleaning the room with supplies I bought myself because I couldn't sleep in such filth. I used the motel's towels for cleaning, which they later tried to charge me for, despite the unsanitary condition of the room being their responsibility. The sink didn't drain, the bathtub faucet dripped constantly, and only two of the six electrical outlets worked. The carpet near the door reeked of cat urine, so I even had to buy a carpet shampooer to try to make the room livable, since maintenance would only clean it on their schedule. Pet and Room Accommodations: I specifically requested a ground-floor room because one of my dogs has hip dysplasia and cannot manage stairs. They put me on the second floor instead, claiming they had an elevator. That elevator frequently malfunctioned, which was both frightening and unsafe. Additional Issues: The heating and air conditioning unit, as well as the windowsill, were covered in mildew. The ice bucket on the counter was stuck to some kind of sticky, unknown substance. The room's lights by the bed didn't work, and I chose to sleep in my own sleeping bag and use my own pillow because the bed was so dirty. Staff Treatment: To make matters worse, the staff tried to charge me an additional $40 for using their towels to clean their disgusting room. They claimed I had "destroyed" property by cleaning with their towels. They even went so far as to ask me to leave a week before my original reservation ended, claiming my use of the towels to clean what they didn't clean was unacceptable. Overall Impression: I stayed long term at a Motel 6 in Kentucky and this was, without a doubt, the worst lodging experience I have ever had. The room was not only dirty and in poor condition but also a health hazard due to the presence of roaches, mildew, and unsanitary surfaces. Several of the staff were unhelpful and unprofessional, and the property itself is in serious need of maintenance. If you are traveling with pets or need a clean and safe place to stay, I highly recommend looking elsewhere. Oh, and watch out for the hornets nests. They seem to be everywhere. read more

I wish I would have read some reviews before booking. Booked online. I stay at Motel 6's all the time. They are inexpensive and provide the basics. I don't need gyms and pools and spas and thusly don't want to pay big bucks for them. Lobby looked OK and smelled AWESOME! Well, that was the end of the pleasant stuff. The hallways were very sketchy. Peeling paint, dirty. The room looked just fine when we entered. We were on the first floor, 2 women and a lab dog. That is where the "nice" ended. For starters, the HVAC unit did not work properly and we FROZE. It did not help that they only "blankets" on the beds were a sheet topped with another sheet that was printed to look like a comforter. It was just 2 sheets. We asked for blankets at the desk and the girl gave us each one but said she is not allowed to do that so don't tell anyone. One blanket was full of big holes (i have lots of pictures t load if it lets me below) and the one on my bed was so covered with gizz that is was all stuck together! They allowed us only one towel each (bath, hand and rag) Asked for 2 extras for our hair washing. Again (different girl) said they are not allowed to give these out so don't tell anyone! We ended up not needing the towels because there was a spider and his web in the tub living. The tub was so filthy and stained that there was no wat I was going to stand in it. Below the spider was a dead cockroach. Guess it was his leftovers. Beside the mirror I photographed a live cockroach as well. Great. Behind the bathroom door there such a nasty pile of pubic hair all along the baseboard. Pictures....I took lots of pictures. The "clean" towels on the rag were nasty stained. Looked like bird poop on them. You know, the place was pretty cheap, about $65/night and we there 2 nights. I understand they are cheap and there is limited $$ available because of this. But this level of filth has more to do with crappy employees and less with finances. read more

Initial entrance to room more modern than expected. Clean, appealing. Started out 10/10 for clean/ simple/ ambiance. Entered the bathroom and changed to 0/10. If staying at a nasty, trashy motel is on your bucket list, this is the place to go! My family was in a bind after another hotel screwed up our reservations and we had to find a place to stay. Walking in the check in, I was greeted by a couple in a sleeping bag laying outside the door. Trash was scattered all over the place since the garbage cans were clearly not emptied in quite some time. The room we stayed in had not been cleaned probably since 17 renters ago. The beds were stained with blood and other colorful fluids. Cigarette burns in all the linens. We chose not to shower that day because there was no way I was going step foot in the tub. We stayed at many Motel 6s during our road trip and this was one of the not-so-good ones. The staff was nice and the area wasn't too bad- a lot of restaurants on the street. What was terrible was the smell. The elevator, the halls and the room smelled like cigarette and wet dog (the smell was strong even though we were in non-smoking room). The floors could have used a good vacuum as well. The pros were that the bed was comfortable and the wifi was very good- not free however (but if you book with expedia, you get the basic wifi for free). read more

Bloody Disgusting! There are only a few reasons to stay here. 1) You work at a wood pulp mill, sewage treatment plant, or pig farm, so the smell of vomit, mold and human feces may bee a step up. And... 2) You're under 5 foot 6. Seriously, I'm 5'11" and, with my head touching the headboard, my feet hung off the end of the bed. These are the shortest beds I have ever seen. And... 3) You're a big fan of horror movies. We discovered streaks of dried blood that had dripped down the wall in the area in and outside the bathroom. Not spots, streaks of blood down the wall. If all that sounds good to you, the asundry denizens staring at you, looking like they're contemplating rolling you if they could steal a few bucks for a hit would be a bonus. We've stayed here for years for the local dog show. This will be the last. The girl at the front desk was nice enough to get us a new room, or we would have run screaming like the stereotypical sorority girl from the horror movie this place is. Never again. read more

If I could give negative stars for this hotel, I would. We arrived around midnight after an hour of driving from Hershey Park, and when we said we were here to check in and that we had a king room reservation, front desk Donna told us "No you don't because we're sold out." We had booked several nights earlier on booking.com and had the email receipt to prove it. We were forced to wait for half an hour while Donna called booking and corporate offices, while saying "I don't know what you want me to do about it" more times than I care to remember. She called the motel 6 down the street where they had one room with a double bed available. We finally checked in and settled down to that hotel room, and upon walking in we found a used qtip, an airheads wrapper, brown stained bath towels, and bed sheets covered in black lint (or maybe they were bugs) and pet hair. We were too exhausted to complain, so we passed out. Around 4am, we were awoken to a pounding on the door. It was the police, and they were told that there was an assault at the hotel and began questioning us if we had seen anything/saying that we called 911 ???? (not true). They mentioned something about the front desk telling them that we had just recently checked in and gave them our name and room number. After only getting two hours of sleep, and then having to deal with this, it was an awful night and I will tell everyone I know to avoid this hotel at all costs. We never found out the deal with the police nor received an apology and was made to feel like an inconvenience the entire time. read more

Was a basic room. No issue with check in. I'm paranoid about bedbugs so I check the mattress, was in decent shape, nothing funky looking. Stayed in the middle of the week so was quiet to me. The front door handle had to be level, or it wouldn't open after dipping my room key...locked fine otherwise. Diner across the street, parking wasn't an issue, fast food further up the main road. Would have liked a mini refrigerator, otherwise it was a basic clean room and okay stay. Would stay here again. read more

This was my first time paying for a room overnight after driving long distance - I paid for one night's rest. Upon entering the room, the pillowcases were filthy, the bed sheets were stained, the wash cloths and towels were stained and filthy, even had what looked like blood stains and brown stains (perhaps faces) on them, the toilet seat was not tightly fastened onto the toilet bowl, the shower curtain did not have hooks attached - it was looped through as if being threaded, the window curtains had again appeared to be a large blood stain on it as if someone wiped his/her finger on the curtain. I asked business office for CLEAN, pillowcases, towels, etc. The next day, before I checked out, I used the laundry room, washed some clothes and placed it into the dryer. After waiting an hour for the clothes to complete, upon opening the dryer door, ALL of my clothes were STILL WET. NOTHING DRIED. I complained to business office employee, and employee looked at me as if "it didn't matter how I was inconvenienced, she never offered how to assist me, or give info. to get refund on drying machine. I told her I am going to write a review about Motel6 on Arsenal Rd., to let others know that this Motel is HORRIBLE. If I could give NO STARS, I WOULD, but I must give something here, so I only gave ONE STAR. I am NEVER going back to this place. read more

I don't want to give 1 star. Bring your own blankets sheets etc. And when you leave throw it away. The cover blankets never get changed. The bedding rarely get changed just a wipe off. But when they do the washers are over stuffed not allowing sheets to properly be cleaned pets allowed great but if there is animal shit on the floors that rarely get swept and mopped unsanitary. Most rooms are occupied with mice roaches and hey even black mold. Check out by 945 am because at 11 am they flipping out 11:15 cops are called and your belongings are ran through by underpaid employees. Ok so let me start by saying this is a Motel 6 so I'm basing my ratings on what a motel 6 is supposed to be...CLEARLY it's not supposed to be fancy place with everything in order BUT when people need help or extra training to handle certain situations, management should have it taken care of. I would highly recommend staying at the other Motel 6 of Tornita(?). There was no water!!!! Weren't informed when we checked in. The manager on duty, Kimberly, was rude and unprofessional. Told us to deal with it it we could leave immediately... So we did. Went up a few blocks to the other Motel 6. It was like walking into a 5 star. I don't know what all of the fuss is about with many of the other reviews, but our room was exactly what we expected it to be. The entire slogan for Motel 6 states that they don't have a lot of frills but you'll get a clean & comfortable room that won't break the bank and what we got was exactly that. We found the staff to be quite friendly and helpful, and beat of all - it was wheelchair accessible AND takes dogs for No extra fee! The reason I am giving this four stars is due to the many spiders that were hanging on webs under the roof balconies. There were dozens of them and quite the size as well. Cons: 1. Continuity of customer service. Working 6-12's with a 2 hour daily drive, I did not have time to nag about fleas. No one who made promises about doing something about it followed up. Three times I requested help, three times I delt with it my self. There is the possibility that people forgot. We've been here for about 3 weeks now. (Just moved from out of state and waiting for our apartment) our overall experience has been good, staff has been friendly, room is decent, always hot water, air conditioning works, they are dog friendly, etc. however my shower has been clogged since we got here (I haven't asked them to fix it, so that's on me) I asked for my room to be cleaned and it wasn't until the following day when a new house keeper was on my floor that it was half cleaned, and that's about all the negative feedback I have. read more

This place is like the pillow and towel Nazi's. God forbid you need extra. They have a policy that two beds gets four pillows. They don't deviate from that, and are completely unapologetic about it. When you pull up in front of the motel, all the employees are in front of the lobby like a smoking army. This hotel was recently remodeled and used to be the Red Roof Inn. The remodel did wonders for the place. Except despite being a smoke free hotel it Reeks of smoke. If you need a cheap place to stay in the York area this is probably the cheapest. But you do get what you pay for here. read more

We arrived early (at 130pm) and the woman at the front desk tried to find us a room. Unfortunately, we had booked a room with a refrigerator because we needed it for medicine, so the two rooms she had cleaned would not work for us. We were visiting family, so we decided to leave and come back later. Once we got back to our car, we re-thought and decided to wait a little longer to see if they could clean a room for us. We had a toddler in tow and wanted him to nap. We we're in luck, there was a room on,the 4th floor. Unfortunately, the fourth floor was the smoking floor and the smell of smoke went from bad to worse when entering the hallway from the elevator then the room itself. We left witht their apologies (even though We we're early - but it was a bit of an ordeal by the time we left) and returned after 5pm. Upon returning a different woman was at the desk, who promptly found our New key cards which were set aside with a note for a new room. Unfortunatley, upon entering, we discovered that it had not yet been cleaned. The woman at the desk was able to get us another room with a refrigerator, but we did have to take a room with two beds instead of one. The door was extremely difficult to open- you had to put your hip on it and really ram it to open. The room itself was nice enough, especially for a budget room. I like that the floors are not carpeted. I think its cleaner that way. There were bars of soap, but I had to ask for shampoo. I liked that at check out, the gentleman asked if there was anything they should know about the room. He was happy to hear our feedback about the door and took note of it for repair. This hotel is a bit of a conundrum. The room (king room) looked nice. Fresh paint, good lighting, modern towel rack, laminate wood floors, refrigerator, microwave, etc. There was a complimentary coffee machine in the lobby with hot water, hot chocolate, and 5 or so coffee choices. However, there was one bar of soap at the sink, no shampoo or conditioner, no tissues in the room, no hair dryer. The air conditioner worked well, but was very loud. The walls were thin (we could hear the people in the room next to us talking) and when the air conditioner shut off, the noise from the road was very noticeable. Overall, I would stay for one night, it was a good value for a king room, but for any longer I would go somewhere else. read more

If I didn't have to give a star for this hotel, I wouldn't. I booked a reservation for a king size bed for three nights at the Motel 6 at 323 Arsenal Rd York, PA. When I arrived around 4pm they informed me that they didn't have anything available except a single bed. This was not acceptable. They called over to their other hotel, which was just down the road, then assured me that they had a room available there for three nights. When I arrived at the second hotel, the woman at the desk informed me that they only had a room available for one night. If we didn't find a hotel for the three nights we would have to change our plans and go home. We called all over York and the surrounding area and couldn't find anything available. We finally found a suite at one of the more expensive hotels for the price of over $500 for the three nights. I will NEVER book another room with any of the Motel 6 hotels again. Nice place. Hardwood floors, double bed. The staff are nice and very helpful. They were able to accomodate us being on the 1st floor. It is a pet friendly hotel so no additional charge for having a dog. It does smell like smoke but not overbearing. They have free coffee in the lobby. The attraction for me was the low price. Took about 45 min to get to Hershey, pa. Went to central market house about 7 miles away, the Manchester mall (Macy's was closing so got great deals there), and lots of stores and restraurants down the Main Street. Might stay here again if we go to this area again. read more
