I stayed here a couple of weeks ago for two nights and I have to say I was really impressed!! Checked in at midnight. Check in was really easy. Staff was friendly. They have drinks and snacks you can purchase 24 hours a day in the lobby. They have a pool table in the lobby. The hotel itself is very modern and clean. The room was great. (I stayed in a Hilton Curio last month which was disgustingly dirty, so I was hesitant going to another Hilton). But the room was perfect. The room and bathroom were incredibly clean. Lots of shelves. The bed was very comfortable. They have a basic breakfast in the morning. Nothing extravagant. I didn't have it but it looked like there were a lot of options. Coffee, eggs, cereal.. etc I decided to get Starbucks in the morning which is conveniently directly across the street from the hotel. I will say this is a very "basic" no frills hotel. It's not somewhere I'd spend a week to vacation, However if you just need somewhere to spend a night or two, it's perfect. read more

If you're looking for a centrally located hotel in York Tru is a great option! The hotel rooms aren't fancy but they have everything that you could possibly need on your visit. The room was clean and the heater in the room worked as required. The front desk workers were so nice as well. Breakfast had a great assortment of selections as well. Could easily be 5 but where they lost the two stars is the bed. I travel quite a bit and typically always use Hilton for the rewards. Etc. this location is great. The staff is really nice. The hotel is very up to date and modern. They are doing everything right. Wheee they lost the two stars is the bed. The bed if very uncomfortable. Very hard and I didn't sleep good the first night. The second night it was better but I can tell that they really need to consider upgrading the beds. If they do this. They will easily be a 5 star stay but when you go cheap on the most important thing, the bed. You lose stars. The staff was great. They have a pool table downstairs. Like I said hotel is up to date. Hotel nice modern and clean . I am lifetime Hilton diamond member . Rooms clean. I stay at hotels usually weekly for lady 30 years, less now with remote work. I found the king bed room claustrophobic. No chair except office chair to watch tv. No drawers of closet; I prefer putting my things in closet pole out of view . No drawers to store laundry fresh vs dirty? This Tru is next to Cheddars bar and restaurant... so easy dinner option. Room too small to be comfortable. Mini frig you must get down on floor to access as under a suitcase table? The desk area doesn't work for some working from room . A/c blows freezing air on you at desk area? Only redeemable quality is alot of lighting in room. The he dark wood on walls looked depressing and like old barn ... bed coverings look boring too. I like Hampton inns or HoMewood suites by Hilton if they are clean . read more

Modern minimalist vibe. Super clean. True-there is not a closet per say, but there is a spot to hang clothing. No drawers, but plenty of space to lay out your clothing. Modular desk on wheels. And no, they don't have the little sample toiletries but they do provide soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion-so really everything you need. Plus, the lobby is super cool. Lobby store offers convenience-type food (at convenience-type pricing) I've stayed with this brand in several cities and am a fan! Great hotel. Clean, soft beds, soft pillows. Stayed here for 2 nights and it was with the time/money. Customer service is really good to- staff is all very friendly. All Tru Hiltons seem the same- however there wasn't a pool here which was a bummer- but we still had a good time. Breakfast was so good too. So many thing to choose from, juices, sandwiches, cereal. A business trip took me to the York area and we stayed at Tru by Hilton. I hadn't been really familiar with the chain, and I'll admit that when I looked it up on Wikipedia and read that it was created to compete with the likes of Comfort Inn and La Quinta, I wasn't exactly walking in with the highest of expectations. By the end of my stay, I decided that I'm going to seek out Tru hotels as much as possible. The place is really modern and fresh looking. The staff, from checking in to checking out, was really nice and immediately responsive. The room itself is built with efficiency in mind. There's a ledge all the wall with a chair instead of a table. The luggage stand is on top of the heater/AC. Instead of traditional bars of soap or bottles of shampoo are these dispensers both by the sink and in the shower. But more importantly, the entire place was clean and comfortable. The free breakfast was slim but good - eggs, bagels, chicken sausage, cereals and yogurts, fruit and pastries, and an endless supply of coffee throughout the day. There's a funny lounge area in the lobby, complete with pool table and ample places to sit. That included these little open pods with noise cancelling. Our family (8 families total) visited this location Feb 2021 for a weekend getaway on the slopes. After we returned, a few of the adults decided to come to my room for a quick night cap before bed. We talked and laughed for a few minutes before we received a knock on the door by front desk staff. Without any fair warning or previous conversations, the front desk staffer Leanne came to our room, spoke condescendingly to us as if we were children OR subservient people of color, and said we were making too much noise, and (I quote) "If I have to come here again, I'm bringing the law". Please note this was our very first interaction. Up until this moment, no one mentioned anything about the noise neither by phone nor in-person. If we were too loud, a simple call would have sufficed and calling it a night wouldn't have been an issue at all. Needless to say, in this current climate when black and brown people are being senselessly murdered by police in situations just like this, her actions were completely tone-deaf, insensitive and unnecessary. There are hundreds of "...while black" videos online that document how police across the US have been urged to investigate Black people for doing all kinds of daily, mundane, non-criminal activities. After she left, we did what adults do...and would've done if we would've received a call about the noise -- went to their respective rooms and went to bed. Once they left, myself and a family member went down to have a conversation with Leanne because those uncomfortable conversations are absolutely necessary. We hoped that the conversation would raise some level of awareness. But instead, Leanne continued to be dismissive of our experience and justify her behavior. I am extremely disappointed, but not surprised - this has been our reality for a very long time. However, it would be beneficial to engage your employees on racial sensitivity so they will know how to better engage their guests, both equally and respectfully. read more

We booked this hotel as a one night stay so that we could celebrate an event with family in the area. With that in mind, the other hotels in the area were asking almost $100 more for a comparable room for one night. My wife and I found this hotel to be very clean with no carpeting to harbor all the feces and bodily fluids from other guests. We both agreed that we prefer the hard surfaces that Tru provided. Really, who would want carpets? As a person who's had several spine surgeries, I was impressed with the mattress. In addition, I was happy that Tru provided a wall mount thermostat with the ability to control the fan speed AND select "Constant On" if desired. My wife and I sleep with a fan on at home and this simple feature was greatly appreciated. I read where someone complained about a work area. While the room isn't large and has limited furniture, it did have a chair and a roll around table that fits under the TV. Not sure why this wouldn't suffice for a work area OR this person wouldn't have done their homework before hand, but ok... I also read where someone compared this facility to a medical facility. Really? Since when does the outside appearance play in to a review? Come on now... In the end, our stay was reasonably priced, the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. We did not partake in the breakfast as we wanted to take in some local cuisine, so I cannot rate that. read more

Really amazing hotel!! So modern! I should have taken photos but the lobby itself was just fantastic. Great breakfast. Cool spot to hangout. Modern chairs to play around in (you'll see ;))Free coffee. Board games. Outside jenga. Decent hotel gym. The room was slightly smaller than expected but the bathroom was spacious. The soap and shampoo they provide is in a squeeze container on the wall which is a great idea for saving money and being environmentally friendly. Would love to stay here again! I'm giving this a four star review with a big warning. This hotel is definitely designed for the younger generation. The facility was sparkling clean, the breakfast area was well maintained and tasty, 24/7 coffee was an awesome perk, and the staff was absolutely amazing! What's the warning? If you're a business traveler that needs a large area to work at during downtime in your room you'll be disappointed. Also, I was there for a week and found the lack of furniture (I'm talking a dresser or drawers of any kind) to be quite a drawback. Because of this I will only consider a TRU if I'm only needed a hotel for one night. I would put TRU higher up on my list for personal travel when I'm usually just in for a night and don't need the work area. read more

Stayed here for one night this week. The check in was very easy and quick. The room was very modern, no closets no drawers. Fortunately we had nothing that needed to be hung. The lighting is very bright. Lowered the window shade and the chain came apart. So we had to leave it down. The beds were comfortable. The soap dispensers in the bathroom and shower were difficult to use. With no carpeting the floors were clean. The breakfast was okay. For staying one night was fine, being there for a few days would be trying as all clothes would need to be stored in our suitcases. read more

I stayed at Tru by Hilton in York, PA over the weekend. I will say that they followed all CDC protocols, the rooms were very modern, clean and the staff created a very nice experience for myself and other guests until the change of shift Saturday night 2/20. Up until then the staff was kind and inviting. LeAnne took it upon herself as the ONLY staff member working overnight to visit our room and advise us of the noise complaints to our room. I have stayed at Hilton brand a number of times as a silver member and have never experienced a staff member knocking on my door as a warning for a noise complaint, usually it's a phone call. To my surprise LeAnne not only visited our room, but also threatened us with "The law" if we were not compliant with her initial warning. Her warning was particularly troubling as a Black guest. I even asked LeAnne if it was common practice to threaten all guests or only her Black and Brown guests with "The law" on the first warning. LeAnne had no coherent answer. Despite COVID I have continued to patronize the Hilton brand, however this racist experience has me second guessing my decision to do so. I find it highly offensive that hotel staff is completely tone deaf about the status of our country and Black and Brown peoples as it pertains to law enforcement. I couldn't help, but think that one of my nephews were about to lose their life behind the threat of hotel staff returning with "The law". I kindly reminded LeAnne that "The law" should NOT be her first recourse of action in dealing with any guest, let alone Black and Brown guests. At this point I have lost all faith in the Hilton brand as this is not my first instance with racism! Hilton needs sensitivity training, I AM A HUMAN BEING and I refuse to be treated less than, especially when I am spending my money. This review won't be for everyone, but my hope is that you consider how this brand is treating ALL guest and you make an informed decision about how and where your money is spent. read more

First time at this brand by Hilton. Very nice modern decor. Would say in comparison to A-Loft. If you like hanging out in the lobby, pool table and self serve beverages available. Staff are very friendly, WiFi is a bit IFFY...sporadic. Room are enough for 1-2 people in a king. Minimalist style, pull out desk, cloth hang area, no closet...you get the idea. Not a fan by any means. I chose this based on location and curiosity about this new Hilton brand. I get that this is supposed to be a budget friendly "hip" hotel, but it fails at any hotels core mission - provide a comfortable stay. CONS - At 231 square feet the room feels claustrophobic. - No desk in the room. - No microwave or coffee maker. - No closet or dresser to place your stuff. - Vinyl faux wood flooring is uncomfortably cold. - Ironing board is not full size. PROS - Bathroom feels spacious. - Large TV. - Large window. - Fast internet. - Lots of power outlets. DESIGN ISSUES - Objects placed on the mesh shelf over the HVAC unit will block airflow. - Fresh air inlet in room pumps cold air in (for winter it should be warmed). - Lights over bed can't be dimmed for reading. This hotel brand might appeal to casual travelers for whom price is a key factor, but most business travelers can't work without a desk. There is a chair with a fold out desk surface, but it's not functional. read more

New hotel chain concept by Hilton. Others have described it as "quirky". I would agree with that description. As a Hilton Diamond Member, I find the property does not offer the level of amenities you would expect from a Hilton brand property. If you are a Business traveller, TRU BY HILTON IS NOT THE PROPERTY FOR YOU (see below for the explanation) The rooms are compact, though clean. Staff is friendly. The design is minimalist, to the point of being spartan. Tru is intended for the one night stay, not multi night stay. NO toiletries. NO dresser -- plan on living out of your suitcase. NO closet -- you get a hook in the wall by the bathroom. NO side chair. NO office work area. In fact, this is the primary reason why Tru is OFF my list of acceptable properties for future lodging. Strange as it may sound, I need to work in my hotel room in the evenings. The minimalist half desk is situated right in front of the air conditioning unit. In order to work at the desk, you have air conditioning blowing right on you, with no option to redirect the air flow. You COULD move the desk (it is on wheels!) and work in the only other area with sufficient room and electricity to work -- the bathroom. Thanks, but no thanks. It's not all negative -- there is a huge common area, with a pool table. If your style is to hang around the lobby and socialize, you will be happy. If your style is to retire to your room to rest and work in the room, find another property. read more

A new branding by Hilton called Tru - I was not really impressed. I was met by a hang out spot (lobby) with noise and high level activity. When I saw the pool table, it made sense. I felt like I was in a Disney hotel - if you're a frequent traveler looking for a quiet spot, by pass Tru. I can almost get their approach - but Tru doesn't match up to the Hilton label. The building itself looks like a medical facility - It gives you the feeling like you are about to give blood or have a procedure done. It's clean, the staff is professional-but the hotel seems like an awkward and quirky teenager that never matured. You read other reviews and you'll the room setup has somewhat of a closet, desk area. The bed is comfy and the windows are large. The rooms have no carpeting - so you don't get a cozy feeling. It's more of a beach motel feeling. If you have kids and want to stay at a place that's cool but small - consider Tru. But if you're looking for a business and cozy feel - this isn't you're place. read more

OK, I am a frequent business traveler and I like the Tru property! Yes, it doesn't have a dresser, but I don't use the dresser anyway. The one in York is new, clean and fun with a friendly staff. There was road noise from the highway but I've found that everywhere else I have stayed in York. I will definitely stay here again. read more

My first time at a Tru by Hilton. I was skeptical at first. I travel for business weekly and I'm accustomed to the standard Hilton Garden In our Embassy Suites even Hampton Inn. When I arrived and got to my room it reminded me of a college dorm room only smaller. There is no closet but there is a nice area to hang clothes. I guess suitcases can be stored under platform bed but no drawers to put clothes. The work area is small and there is no coffee pot in the room. HOWEVER the bed was great! Slept wonderfully. Staff is EXCEPTIONAL and the price was well below others in the area. Room was spotless, bathroom is large with a good shower. Bring your own shampoo if you don't like to squeeze out of their dispenser! All in all a nice 2 night stay. read more

Hotel was 5 Star clean and the minimalist amenities, no closet, no dresser, etc. were of no concern because it was exactly what I needed for a one night stay. Given it is the most expensive hotel in the immediate area I was appalled to see a pile of dirty linens outside the housekeeping door and garbage piled by the 4th floor elevator. This lasted all night and nothing was done until I alerted housekeeping in the morning as I was leaving. After the lengthy check out process I not only verbalized my concern to the front desk woman but I wrote a note as well. Her response was "housekeeping goes home at 4:00. I stayed one night on 19 June for the PA Jeeps All Breeds Jeep Show at the York Fairgrounds. The building's architecture stands out both from style and color scheme, and reminds me of a modern hospital. The glass windows in front and on the doors are filled with cutesy welcoming sayings, and the lobby is decorated and has amenities geared for Millennials; it is probably the most socially-engaging motel lobby that I've seen, if you're into that. The rooms are small and spartanly-furnished, but the bed was comfortable and the window is wall to wall. There is a small worktable on casters that is tucked under a shelf that takes the place of a dresser in a more conventional motel. The quirky chair is HUGE with wide arms and really blocks passage across the front of the bed. I shoved it over in the corner by the window to get it out of the way. No carpet, which I prefer, and the faux wood floor covering was actually warm and not at all uncomfortable underfoot. Overall, think of Microtel updated for 2020 and the under-35 crowd. Not being negative, but if that's the look that Hilton was going for with Tru, I think it's a fine one. The single biggest positive attribute about this property is the staff. Every single staff person was extremely outgoing and friendly, including maintenance and housekeeping, both of whom I only passed in the hall but they were extremely friendly. Now to the negative, which is admittedly personal and may not apply to mainstream guests. Tru rooms do not have conventional toiletries, which I am the first to agree are extremely wasteful. Tru uses liquid soap and conditioner that are in tubes about the size of those one would insert in a caulking gun, and mounted in brackets to the walls of the bathroom and shower. The brand is "Soap not Radio" or some such. They are labeled "body wash", "shampoo", "conditioner" but the tubes cannot be rotated in the brackets or removed to read the instructions or ingredients on the back. I used the body wash and shampoo, not having brought my own toiletries and within several minutes of toweling off after a shower in the morning, I broke out all over with itchy hive-like bumps. I climbed back in the shower and rinsed for 15-20 minutes and used most of a tube of Aveeno (don't leave home without it) all over to keep the itch at bay. As luck would have it, 20 July was the hottest day of the 2019 summer to date, and by 14:00 at the Jeep show I had enough with being miserable with the itch that was made worse by the sun and sweating. Pretty much took the fun out of the event. That's the reason for the two stars. While I applaud Tru for its environmental activism (again, an objective in touch with the obvious target customer demographic) in not using wasteful individual toiletries that are discarded after single use, I chastise Tru for its negligence not making the "Soap not Radio" product instructions and ingredient labeling available to its guests. read more

If you stay at other Hilton properties, you will find the rooms a bit spartan. Almost Motel Six like, BUT higher quality. The lobby is a fun atmosphere with snacks (including beer and wine) for sale. Fun common area includes a pool table. The lack of a large chair in the room is a negative for me since I need to sleep sitting up on occasion. Hampton Inn like breakfast bar. It met my needs. I'd do it again. This could be the Hilton product that could easily be a pet friendly property. That would be nice to have with Hilton. read more

Booking this hotel was kind of a risk since I had never heard of "Tru" but it was actually super awesome. Breakfast was 6-9am and included a pretty decent spread. Bedding, room and decor in general was all very modern and cool. TV's in the room are absolutely massive which was very entertaining for the 2 nights I had to spend here for work. Room was cleaned and like brand new when I came back from work the first day and the cleaning ladies in the hallway are super friendly. Nathan at the front desk was really good with checking up via text! The texting system was interesting, something I have never seen before in a hotel but it definitely makes life easier being able to send any questions/requests to the front desk via text. Really don't have anything to complain about or any notes of improvement. There are snacks available in the lobby, nothing really available to order room service wise for lunch/dinner but there is a Sheetz steps away from the lobby and plenty of places to order from in the area so that's what I did both nights. Would definitely stay here again! read more
