To be fair, it is entirely my fault we ended up here. I should have been paying attention when my husband read the description of this hotel but it was located where we needed it and it was cheap and we had a boatload of other reservations we needed to make so I didn't look at the photos and just gave the OK. My bad. Here's what we paid for:
- A room, 4 walls, ceiling and floor. Painted Hospital White.
- The room has a window, WITH a room darkening drape ; no extra charge
- The room has canister lights, set to "stun" ( that means they are bright). No lamps or dimmers. Your choice is operating room bright, or dark ( nod to the room darkening drape)
- The queen-sized bed is uncomfortable for the over 40 crowd. Our daughter, under 40, in the next room over had no complaints about it.
- I didn't much notice the air conditioning unit during the day and it did it's job, but when you are lying in an uncomfortable bed and cannot sleep, you notice that when the fan turns on it sounds like The Mother Ship hovering over the parking lot
- The room comes with a half-table and 2 wooden chairs. These are not meant to sit on for more than a moment. Put your shoes on or take them off, but do not try writing a review of the hotel while sitting there.
There are some things I couldn't have gleaned from glancing at the photos, had I glanced at the photos, which I didn't.
First, there are BUGS. Earwigs and beetles and at least 2 more I couldn't identify.
Second, we were on the first floor, last room on the end and the sounds from the stairwell and the laundry room can be heard through the walls. Our daughter heard someone vomiting. I don't know about you but I go on vacation to escape things like the sound of vomiting.
Finally, there's a door leading to the parking lot just next to our room that is unlocked 24/7. There isn't a swipe device installed to gain entrance from the outside. All you have to do is pull the door open to gain entrance and I don't find that especially safe.
To summarize, stay here in blizzard conditions or if you cringe at the thought of paying $160/ night for the Windham. read more
