When we woke up, we showered, got dressed, spoke to manager & left. The balcony didn't look safe. The room needed maintenance.

Our room ended up in the annex section. Behind the hotel is open green space that I'm pretty sure belongs to the hotel, and backs onto the Otonabee River. It's very pretty and picturesque and I think a nice place for like an outdoor wedding. Our room itself was pretty standard. We had a queen bed, couch, coffee table, flat screen TV, microwave and small fridge. The bathroom is small and is just the toilet and bath tub. The sink is outside of the bathroom. There's a gym and a pool, neither of which were used by us. Lots of free parking. The breakfast area is nice. Since our stay was during the Covid-19 Pandemic (not our preferred time to travel, but our journey was ultimately for an interment), the hot food was served in "to-go" pre-packaged servings by an attendant (it was a breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg and cheese on an English muffin when we were there). The attendant also serves you coffee and tea. Everything else is single serving individually wrapped and you can serve yourself with those (e.g bottled juice, yogurt, packaged pastries, granola bars, etc.). The dining room was open, with tables spaced out, but we opted to eat in our own room. I was satisfied with the Covid precautions. We paid around $120 a night. I would stay here again. Hopefully next time under happier circumstances, both personally and from a global health perspective.

CONS Pricey. $150 a night all said and done for a room with seriously dated decor and furnishings, entry level linens, old TV and in need of some fresh paint. The "suite" was less a suite and more just a standard sized hotel room with a gas fireplace. Kept up until almost 3am by noise from the bars across the street and their patrons. If you want total silence then ask for a room not facing George St and you will be fine. Room was for the most part clean but could use a deep clean. Washroom was spotless but if you looked under the desk, behind the chairs and in the less obvious areas it was clear that a deep cleaning has not been done in some time. An easy fix. Take the term "boutique hotel" as meaning small only. My experiences with boutique hotels is that they are chic and modern. This place was most certainly not either of those things. All in all a decent stay. Would I go back? Possibly. The location was fantastic. Just not so hot on the price. $80-$100 a night for that room no problem just not having an easy time justifying the $150 price tag. For that much you can get a comparable albeit updated, more modern room in downtown Toronto or Montreal with much nicer mattress, linens, room service, pool etc. Not a lot of options in downtown Peterborough I suppose. The owners are very welcoming and helpful, as I was travelling with a friend Doug was trying to save us from paying for two rooms and giving various suggestions to sharing, which I felt was very nice of him. Coming from downtown noisy Toronto, I appreciated the peacefulness of this lovely house. Did I mention the rooms are gorgeous, clean and comfy. Love the place and highly recommend.

It is one of the very few places that lets you pay for a room with cash, while most other places require a credit card. Though our particular room was tiny, it seemed that they do a lot with the small space you get, as you get a mini fridge, a microwave, and a good selection of satellite channels. As well, it appears to be one of the lowest priced if not the lowest priced motel in Peterborough, and we were lucky that there was a room available, even though we went in the shoulder season, just after school-age students had gone back to school. It is rather minimalist in the food and drink offerings (no vending machines for food and drink), but for I and my husband, we tend to bring our own food and drink, so it was not that critical for us.

There were no extra blankets, and the room was too cold. We couldn't get the temp controller open, so we couldn't turn up the heat. Lots of hot water in the shower, though. The room could have been better soundproofed, but it wasn't unacceptably loud. Might be worse if the room is near to the laundry/ice machine. Breakfast options included waffles, yogourt, fresh fruit, sausage, eggs, cereals and baked goods. Free wifi worked well enough. We secured a better rate by calling the hotel than by booking online.

Coin laundry, complimentary internet, mini-fridge, microwave, tv in room, the sheets weren't enough to keep me warm at night, having to run the heater or provide my own insulation from the cold room. Hot breakfast included which were bagels, muffins, hard boiled eggs, sausage links, bread, juices, cold and hot cereals. It seems it's the only redress available to me. I wasn't actually able to stay at the hotel. Our car broke down this morning, so we had to cancel our reservation for tonight. I spoke to the hotel, and they would not budge on cancellation policy, so we're being charged the full $217 for a service not provided. I booked through Expedia, and one of their agents also tried to get the charge reversed, to no avail. The situation is out of our control, and the hotel's lack of flexibility is completely unreasonable. Unless you can predict the future with 100% certainty, DO NOT book at the Hampton Inn! Would give it zero stars for zero service and flexibility if it were an option. Needless to say, I will never again stay at a Hampton Inn anywhere. In response to the above review on another forum the hotel responded that the cancellation policy is set by a third party. Again, an Expedia agent contacted the hotel to ask for a refund on my behalf and was told that they would not make an exception. The hotel has pocketed almost $220 of my money for doing absolutely nothing. Just the extra expense, aggravation and lack of compassion I need as I now also have to pay for car repairs and delay my trip to visit my dying mother. Thanks a lot!
