Pinecrest cottages was originally a summer retreat and has been around for about 150 years ! at some point about 20 cottages were built. Currant owners Diego & Lynn have owned the property for about 6 years and have done extensive renovations to the buildings and water front area.We brought along our own boat and there was ample space at the dock, pinecrest also has plenty of rental boats of all sizes and free canoes and kayaks .The cottages were clean and comfortable with great vistas and sun sets. The fishing is great either by boat or just off the dock. The cost turned out to be less than we thought ! We enjoyed the night time fires and found the other guests to be friendly, some traveled quite a distance from areas in the U.S and one we spoke to have been visiting for over 25 years ! we had a great week and have pre booked for next year. Very happy with the server we had the first and last time he was very good. Food was tasty and lots of it. My buddy and I have big appetites but our wives are tiny so there was more than enough to go around. Really hated having to put on our masks every time the server came to our table. No other restaurants we have visited in the last few months has required this and we go to a lot. Good social distancing and place is very clean. Got to visit just the weekend before lockdown

Stayed here recently as a solo business traveller…read more PRO'S Amazing location. The heart of downtown is right outside the door. Fast, efficient check in. Room was ready on time. Free, validated parking - public lot, a block away, not a big deal. In room gas fireplace. Quiet hotel - halls, lobby. Good cable TV package. Sauna and fitness room. CONS Pricey. $150 a night all said and done for a room with seriously dated decor and furnishings, entry level linens, old TV and in need of some fresh paint. The "suite" was less a suite and more just a standard sized hotel room with a gas fireplace. Kept up until almost 3am by noise from the bars across the street and their patrons. If you want total silence then ask for a room not facing George St and you will be fine. Room was for the most part clean but could use a deep clean. Washroom was spotless but if you looked under the desk, behind the chairs and in the less obvious areas it was clear that a deep cleaning has not been done in some time. An easy fix. Take the term "boutique hotel" as meaning small only. My experiences with boutique hotels is that they are chic and modern. This place was most certainly not either of those things. All in all a decent stay. Would I go back? Possibly. The location was fantastic. Just not so hot on the price. $80-$100 a night for that room no problem just not having an easy time justifying the $150 price tag. For that much you can get a comparable albeit updated, more modern room in downtown Toronto or Montreal with much nicer mattress, linens, room service, pool etc. Not a lot of options in downtown Peterborough I suppose. Solid 3 stars.

The other nice touch was the personal note greeting us and the chips, cookies, and bottled water. The room was large, clean, and the bed were comfortable. My wife used the small exercise room on the first floor. I found the wi-fi to be slow, but at least I had an Internet connection. I saw the indoor pool and coin operated laundry but we didn't use either. The free breakfast was on the upper end of what I expected from a chain like this. We were quite pleased with our stay and would came back next time we are in the area.

But sometimes you want a more relaxed experience. Fee's Landing is that place. The cottages are definitely rustic (honestly I think using the word resort in the name is a bit of a stretch) but comfortable. The website descriptions are pretty accurate so i won't waste space on that. There 5 cottages, shared paddle boats, kayaks and canoes. There are frequently lots of families and the kids enjoy running between the beach and play ground. As I said the cottages are rustic but obvious recent improvements such as recently built fire pits for each cottage. Bring a fishing rod...honestly I have no idea what type of fish...but the kids had hours of fun every day fishing off the dock the beach area is good but other than that the lake is pretty weedya

The property is very well maintained and taken care of with no sign of disrepair or complacency, very nicely laid out as well. Amenities such as fully appointed kitchen, indoor fireplace, bbq, comfortable beds and furniture, sat tv, and of course wifi (that worked perfect). All you need to bring is your clothes and food and you're good to go. The cabins have a nice size deck that faces the water with a fire pit just steps away. There is also a small onsite store and you can rent watercraft to get out on the lake as well. The owner seemed genuinely concerned at making our stay enjoyable yet was not intrusive in the slightest way, very considerate. I would not hesitate to recommend Fees Landing to my friends and family without a fear of disappointing anyone and will go back in the near future.
