The location is far enough away from the perpetual sidewalk smoker for it not to drift in our door or window, another yay, since I have health issues related to secondhand smoke. Both units are very clean, minus the ceiling issues in one unit, the staff checks daily for cleaning the room, towels are readily available, and the pool appears clean, even though it's still a little chilly for a dip. read more

Cal Poly graduation weekend 2026. I booked this hotel through Hotels.com for my 85 year old parents. I wanted to change the reservation from two nights to one night. When I called, they said since it was booked by 3rd-party website, they couldn't make the adjustment. When I called Hotels.com, they said to just inform the motel upon checkin. My dad informed them they only needed one night. The motel wouldn't take his credit card and said we had to pay through the 3rd-party website. Motel 6 charged me for TWO NIGHTS and won't give me a refund. We have no proof. Motel 6 truly took advantage of an 85 year old man!! We spent $363.02 for 18 hours in this shitty motel. read more

It's unnecessarily loud here... the cleaning lady goes from room to room blaring her music so loud that if you were a block away you could hear it... they have no consideration that people may be on a job assignment and needing to sleep during the day or night. The refrigerator was broken... all of my groceries spoiled. This is the absolute worse Motel I've ever encountered! Do not stay here!! My room was ice cold and the thermostat did not work! No weather stripping on the door and cold air coming in from underneath. Shower was dirty and when I sat on the foot of the bed the head of the bed went up towards the ceiling sending me off onto The floor! They gave away the downstairs room I reserved even when I confirmed twice and emphasized I needed a downstairs room. They put me in an upstairs room and I had noticed the upstairs rooms were actually under construction which told me they sold out on downstairs and stuck me in a room to be renovated! It took 20 Mins. For the clerk to even come to the window to check me in after I was knocking and knocking and when I told him I reserved a downstairs room he informed me he rented out to someone else! Hire a new front desk, manager person whatever his role is. Upon checking into Motel 6 in Morro Bay, California I was shown a room on the first floor immediately upon entering the smell of Clorox burnt my eyes. I immediately wanted to feel the softness of the bed upon the door, opening to find the comforter wet with Clorox. I then went to the front desk. The person was helpful and showed me two more rooms. I accepted the third room, although it did have a strange odor. Upon the fourth night staying there, I started to experience cigarette and marijuana smoke coming through my bathroom exhaust fan. I went to express my concerns to the front desk in the morning. The front desk is very rarely manned. Upon returning in the afternoon, I explained the problem to the front desk. I was promptly told that they had never had such a complain complaint before. I was also explained that I was paid through this evening and that I wasn't welcome to come back due to my complaint. I am presently displaced from my normal housing situation in beautiful Morro Bay due to a water leak. I again approached the front desk and asked if I could pay for another two nights and was promptly told no. I was not welcome if I had complaints. My mom made a reservation at this motel 6 by accident and it was too late to cancel our reservation so we decided to keep it and check it out. After we received our keys at check in we walked into the room and were immediately disgusted by the sight of stains all over the bed and various spills all over the room. My brother also noticed a cockroach on the wall. We were throughly disgusted and my mom immediately told the front desk. The man at the front desk said that they do not have roaches and that we must have mistaken a gnat for a roach. The man said they have had a lots of gnats in the rooms due to the air conditioning being out and customers having to have the windows open. When trying to take pictures the bugs scattered and we were unfortunately unable to capture them in photos. Upon complaints, we were moved rooms. The second room was just as bad without the bugs. With spills on the furniture that had not been wiped up and trash shoved under the beds. When brought up with the front desk to see if they could at least clean up the trash, their response was to hand my mom a broom and to tell her she can do it herself. We refused to stay at the hotel so we had to pay to stay at another hotel. Before leaving, we demanded a refund and the man at the desk said he was not authorized to do so. So, he gave us a phone number to call the next day. We have called the number several times and no one answers. Needless to say, we will not be staying at a motel 6 again. Update: We were able to get ahold of the front desk and the manager said she would issue a full refund. Over a month later still never received anything. Some Motel 6 have been upgraded are actually nice, not this one, did a reservation through hotels.com so I was given a room that eas probably out of service, A/C blew hot air, no fridge, bathroom floor dirty, everything beat up and scuffed up, when I complained and asked for another room they said it should cool down outside, other rooms were for people with reservations, I observed what appeared to be drug deal Activity outside room 118, I was actually scared with the window open. I'm an elder punk rocker and have seen some things over the last two decades. Absolutely DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! No matter how good of a deal you think it is, it's not! I witnessed literal collapsing and taped off infrastructure. There's an abundance of indoor flys and bugs (multiple types). Black stains on the towels and bed sheets. Chips, dings, and dents left and right. No a/c, no shampoo, no conditioner, no iron, no blow dryer (if you're fancy). Just plain dirty. Not to mention the past 10pm motorcycles, people hanging out in their cars in the parking lot, and loud (yelling and having sex) guests. This place is horrible, almost everything about it stinks except for two motel staff members, who I enjoyed talking to. They didn't even have room keys so you had to have someone open your door every time you needed in. The towels were closer to paper than cloth, the room stunk, we saw a cockroach in the room, there was no heating and this was the middle of winter when it got to the 20's so we may as well have been outside camping. The bathroom shower leaked all over the floor and the shower head was broken with no water pressure until we tried adjusting it and the whole thing came off and sprayed everywhere with an extreme amount of pressure! Housekeeping knocked on our door at least 3 times in the morning, one time barging in. The manager, Amy, topped it off with her terrible show of customer service, she was incredibly rude and discourteous, even after my fiancé delighted her son with some toys. Rooms smell like cigarettes because the manager smokes cigarettes constantly, she goes into rooms to do cleaning, and she is smoking cigarettes. She talks to guests and sparks cigarettes and smokes with the smoke going into people's faces. The rooms have no working heater, no working air conditioning.. the mattresses are bloody and full of what we assume are cigarette burns. We tried talking to corporate, and they told us to talk to the owner. The owner never got back to us. Housekeeping is being mistreated and yelled at by the manager. Motel 6 in atascadero used to be a place with friendly staff until Amy became manager and let the property go down the drain. Never going back here again. It's funny to me to read all the 1 star reviews. It's a cheapie motel 6, you can't expect the Hilton! Just like if you go to the Hilton, you can't expect the Four Seasons! LOL You definitely get what you pay for. I had to make a last minute reservation because we drove into town for a job interview. At the last minute, this hotel was the cheapest I could find by a lot! This one was $100 a night, literally everything else was $300+. So I wasn't expecting much, I've been to Motel 6 in the past, although it's been over 10 years. I knew they were bare bones minimum. The good: They have a great soda machine, a nice candy/snack machine, a couple ice machines, washer dryer onsite, microwave and refrigerator in room worked fine. Room seemed clean enough. We got extra towels when we asked. Flat screen TV had great color, and lots of channels. Bed was kind of on the hard side, but I slept like a log from our long road trip nonetheless. The area is pretty nice, no issues there at all. The front desk folks were helpful. The bad: The customer "element" was literally the scariest I've seen in a long time. I am generally fearless and have balls of steel. Still, the clientele consisted of some very scary dudes that looked like they just got out of prison. One guy gave me a true demonic vibe. Really gross giant green thing stuck to the wall by the bed. Looked like the worlds biggest troll booger. Nasty! Would I stay there again? She blamed her staff for that mistake when she checked me in. Then they put me in a dirty room for smokers, i am allergic. The manager and her day/evening staff kept lying. I have experienced prejudice behavior from hispanics before as i did here. I am white, not Hispanic so the put me in the worst rooms and treated me like garbage. AVOID THIS HOTEL I am writing this review for my sister-in-law, who has stayed at the Motel 6 in Atascadero many times, but she does not have access to Yelp. If you take a look at the reviews over the past 12 months, you'll notice a pattern. This motel previously received favorable reviews. When this motel was taken over by new ownership and new management, most of the reviews have been 1 star. Here are the issues that my sister-in-law described to me: - No vending machines. The new owner removed all of the vending machines. The only one that remains is often broken for long periods of time. - The ice machine typically doesn't work. There has been no ice available during the hottest days of the summer months. - The phones in the rooms do not work. You can call a phone in another room, but you can't make any calls outside of the motel. - Some of the televisions only offer a few channels. - The maintenance person only works a couple days a month. Therefore, if something breaks in your room, you'll have to wait a long time to get it fixed. Once the maintenance person is available, they force you to switch rooms so that the repair can be completed. - The in-room air conditioners do not work well when it's hot. When the temperatures are over 100 during the summer months, the air conditioners will sometimes blow lukewarm air. - There are issues with the power in the summer time. It can take all day and night to charge your cell phone when plugged into an outlet from inside the room. - There are strange people hanging around outside of the motel. Some appear to be prostitutes or drug dealers. My sister-in-law has been asked if she is "working" and how much she charges by strangers outside of the motel. - The rates are very high. The rates you see online or on the sign are never the prices that they quote you at the front desk. - Most of the staff are related. The new owner hired one member of a family as manager, and he in turn hired his entire family to run the hotel. Many of them do not speak English very well. - When you complain to the staff working at the front desk, they always tell you they already know about the problem and there's nothing that they can do about it. So, the new owners and managers of this Motel 6 clearly do not care about their customers. If you read some of the other reviews, you'll see that people have been charged for their rooms and never given refunds even after they complain about the conditions of their room and exit the motel early. If you are going to stay at a motel in Atascadero, take a moment to read the other reviews on Yelp and select a hotel with some 4 and 5 star reviews. Awful. No other words to use really. I used to work in hospitality and my wife still does. We had low expectations for a motel 6 to begin with but they were exceeded above and beyond. Desk clerk was more interested in her phone then checking us in. Get to the room and it smells like a casino. Room has clearly been smoked in a lot. Didn't have any expectation that an alternative would be better so didn't ask to be moved. Room has one pillow, zero soap or any other basic amenities. Couldn't call the desk cause the phone doesn't work. Get back from the concert we're in town for to ask for one more pillow, and a young lady we saw at the show is at the desk stating how their room is covered in roaches. Outside of a seedy motel I stayed @ after a drunken bender in Tijuana when I was 19, this is EASILY the most disgusting hotel I have ever stayed @ in the US. The pictures you see for the hotel are all old. The green lawns are gone. It's are all dirt & weeds. This is where people have their animals defecate. No one cleans it up. The rooms are unbelievably filthy. Do not take off your shoes! The hotel seems to pay no attention to smoking/non-smoking status in the rooms. My non-smoking room reeked of cigarette smoke. I really don't think they clean the roams between guests. Maybe they change the sheets, but that's it. The amount of hair & filth on the floors, towels, & in the bathroom was extraordinary. There were many stains on the walls. Behind the headboard was what looked like blood spatter (no joke). Most hotels now have gone with bed frames that don't allow access to under the bed. Not the case here. Look under the bed only if you have a strong stomach or a love for hairballs. My bed frame was so wabbly I was concerned it was going to fall over when I flipped and flopped on this concrete mattress. Not that the mattress matters when the noise from the derelicts & addicts keeps you up all night. My reservation was for 2 nights. I decided that wasn't going to happen somewhere around 5AM of the 1st night when I woke up to the sound of someone vomiting outside my door. There were bugs under my bag when I went to pack up. This is not a safe place for solo female travelers! I've stayed at a lot of roadside motels in my life and I usually feel perfectly comfortable as long as I have my big dog with me, she serves as enough of a deterrent to keep away unwanted attention, but not here. I checked in and then went to scout out a parking spot for my room and I have never seen so many shady-looking single men wandering around in my life. I think I counted at least fifteen. I'm not usually one to get spooked easily (I lived in West Philly after all!), but there was quite literally no physical way for me to park and get to my room without having to walk directly past a stumbling, talking-to-himself, spinning in circles man. I sat in the parking lot for a few minutes to book myself another room elsewhere, and two different dudes started circling my car! I've never hit CONFIRM on Booking.com so fast in my life. read more

My daughter and her children stayed here for a 2 week vacation. I was very impressed with the improvements I saw. There was staff power washing walkways and the exterior of the building daily. Every one was helpful from the housekeepers to the manager, Kim. A special shout out to front desk worker, Able, for being professional and friendly. Writing this review after 34 days, after all attempts to contact the Atascadero Motel 6 manager AND the global Motel 6 customer support have failed. DO NOT rent a room here. You will be more comfortable, and your stay, more predictable at a rudimentary campsite. Only about half the staff is interested in doing their duties. The manager, Amy Goldman seems to be completely disinterested, does not care about returning calls, nor about any feedback given directly to her or to Motel 6. We booked 2 rooms with double-beds. Below is the confirmation we received for both rooms - "Deluxe Room, 2 Double Beds, Non Smoking, Refrigerator & Microwave" We reached the hotel at 4pm, i.e., past the check-in time. They said that only 1 room was ready, and that only had a single bed. As we had 3 people in each room, obviously that could not have worked. They took a long time to get that 1 room ready. The room wasn't cleaned properly and it looked like the sheets and stuff was not changed. For the 2nd room, they made us wait for an hour. Then they gave us the keys. We went in, and found that someone was living there! Their luggage was there, refrigerator with their contents, and the bed was not made. I don't understand this - then why did they give us the keys to that room! So we waited for another hour, while he instructed the cleaning staff to make our room. We waited and waited - finally I went looking for the cleaning staff. They had no clue that they had to clean this room and get it ready for us. They were just going about their regular round. We got the room very, very late. In the morning, there was no hot water. I complained at the office. They said they will look into it. We waited again. After half an hour, i checked again, and they were like "Oh, no one has hot water, not just you". Well, how about informing us as soon as you found out? Turns out that their boiler was not on. Then I told the staff to turn on the boiler. After a while, I checked again and they said that that staff person did not have access. Then I told him to get the person who has access. He said that person lived on the property and they will get him to turn on the boiler. Note that *all* the guests did not have hot water. A while later the staff said that the person to turn on the water was sleeping and refusing to wake up. And that's that. They said there was nothing they could do. They said only the manager can open the room and turn on the boiler, but she was coming at 10 AM. After a while, they said that they did not know when the manager will arrive. At this point, we had to leave the hotel. I went to the front desk for refund. They said only the manager could give a refund and asked me to either wait for the manager or call the manager, Amy Goldman. Amy did not pick up. I then called Amy 3 times during the day and she did not pick up. I called the front desk through the day and they said they did not know where the manager was. I called Amy three times after that - the next day, a week later, and 3 weeks later. She did not pick up, nor she returned any of my calls or voicemails. Then the voicemail could not be left because the box was full. I called Motel 6 and they told me to talk to the manager. I wrote the Motel 6 and the only response I have received is the auto-generated email acknowledging the receipt of the email I sent. I still have not got my money back. Do not waste yours. I used to like Motel 6, but it seems they are going out of business and don't really care that they are going out of business. Their staff is a shame and blemish on the hospitality industry. These are completely indifferent paper-pushers. Is it priced for such service? Not at all. The prices are "competitive". You will feel better sleeping in the back of your car. Avoid this. read more

We had a reservation but when we arrived they did not have a queen bed available, so the front desk was "nice" enough to give us a room with 2 full beds no extra charge. Extra charge? Yikes. BED bugs! STAY AWAY! My boyfriend and I just stayed there this past weekend and got attacked terribly by bed bugs. I easily got bit over 30 times and my boyfriend 20 times. When we spoke to the manager he strictly denied there were any bed bugs and refused to go to our room and said they would check once we checked out.
