Amazing ranch with wonderful staff and horses! I have been leasing/taking lessons here for a while and Jeanette recently helped me acquire my first horse as an owner! read more

Just came back from our horse back ride, it was wonderful. Had a good time with babe. It was a good birthday present from him. Weather was nice, yes not to cold, not to hot. I loved the experience it was more then I expected. I recommend it to the fullest. read more

Moss Beach Ranch is an absolutely wonderful place for horse lovers at all levels of experience. You can find whatever you're looking for here - whether it's to take lessons, lease, or board your horse. The Western and English instructors are absolutely wonderful. I worked with Jeanette to train my difficult horse and she was very (very!) helpful and patient. This is a great place to board as well! I've boarded my horse at Moss Beach for about a year and a half and it's a great facility - it has great access to beautiful trails that overlook the ocean and a number of good riding arenas. The workers that care for the horses do a great job and know that they'll take good care of my horse. There is a really nice community of people at the ranch that makes it a fun environment where you can spend the day with other horse lovers. I highly recommend Moss Beach if you're looking for a place to ride! read more

I love this place. My daughter takes lessons a few times a year with Ulrike Ruppelt and has learned so much. Her horse back riding skills have improved and she is confident on a horse. I highly recommend this teacher. She is very flexible, calm and very detailed. The horses are very well trained. I think everyone should try at least one lesson in life to see if they like horse back riding. As a parent, I enjoy being at the ranch just watching the horses and the students learning their new skills. read more

Would definitely select miss beach ranch again. Nice long trail. Trail lead, Kim, was fantastic. Horses were not the usual Broken down trail horses. read more

I have been taking lessons from Jeanette Jacobi at Moss Beach Ranch for several years now and she is fantastic. She has brought my horse along beautifully and my riding is constantly improving. I would recommend her to anyone who wants to either get started riding or to improve their skills. read more

For horse lovers. I have been riding here for almost 2 years with my 11 years old daughter. This club is very friendly and not snobbish. People love horses and the instructors are definitely very good. Jeanette (jjacobi@pacbell.net) is great, always calm and smiling, with a professional eye on everything. My daughter loves Agnes (trinhams@yahoo.com), her teacher. I highly recommend that club. read more

My friend and I trailered-in to the Moss Beach Ranch Eventing Show last weekend. It was our first time there, and we LOVED IT. They provided wonderful accomodations for our horses, and for us to camp there. The show itself was a great schooling opportunity for those interested in Eventing, Combined Training and Dressage. The facility is quite nice - the folks are so friendly, and it seems like the trails would be wonderful to ride (though we only got a chance to ride around on the fun XC course and "saw" some of the trails) I'd highly recommend anyone in the area to show there, camp there, school, board or take instruction. We saw several lessons being conducted and guided trail rides - it really is a great facility! read more

Nice place to go and have a lesson on horse back riding. Highly recommended. Me and my friends have a good time.

I am so sorry to give this barn such negative stars but I can no longer sit back and say nothing. I boarded my horse here for about a year and left when it got so bad that I couldnt deal with it any longer. Please note, I never worked with any of the trainers while I was there, I am primarily a trail rider with a little bit of barrels and sometimes dressage on occasion. The reason that I cannot give this place the great review I wish I could is because of choices that the owner makes about the place. The hay is my biggest concern, the second being the quality of the ground/arenas when it rains or when it is very warm. The hay is awful. I spoke to other boarders there as well and they all agreed about the poor quality. On his website he says and I quote "Horses are fed three times each day, with high quality orchard hay containing 10% alfalfa." If that hay is so good then why did my horse never look worse? I have a larger horse who NEVER dropped his weight but suddenly looked like he had aged 20 years over night. Its so bad to the point where horse owners actually have to check their own horses teeth for foxtails. Not to mention, I heard that recently they switched from feeding 3x a day to only feeding 2x and the horses only get 2 flakes per feeding. I am lucky my horse was in a pasture otherwise I worry that he would have had some serious bordrom problems. Horses are ment to eat all day long, feeding only 4 flakes per 24hours does not give them nearly enough forage. That plus the low quality makes for disaster. The other part that he advertises on his website is "well-drained paddocks, beautifully maintained pastures." This is BS, the pastures become bogs and swamps. Beware if your horse either wears shoes as you will be constantly loosing them in the mud or gets abscesses otherwise you are treating those abscesses all winter. The arenas get so muddy that it is extremely unsafe conditions to ride in and so you have to pay (if you have a stalled horse) to have one of two trainers who offer it or one of the many teenagers who run around to handwalk your pent up horse. Then during the hotter months, the ground in the arenas gets so hard that I would feel bad making my horse work on the ground that hard. I hope something changes soon. It is a beautiful place with the potential for a beautiful set up. All it needs is a little more attention. read more

I bought a groupon for this place and planned a 'family reunion' type day for my sisters, mom, and I. I tried booking it 7 weeks in advance and was told they were booked all weekends before the expiration and couldn't do anything to accomodate us. I asked if they could possibly extend the expiration for us, as we couldn't go on a weakday and they would not. 7 weeks in advance and I was told it was "impossible" to be accomodated? That's pretty lame, and the response was that I should have booked it sooner and a 'not my problem' kind of attitude... pretty disappointed.... read more

My wife tried booking a weekend riding lesson weekend through groupon. Rich Allen was less than helpful. Was in correspondence with him for about 4 weeks and took a week fro him to respond between emails. Finally had to get groupon customer support involved before the groupon expired. Not boring anyone with details I got my refund. I enjoy horse riding but will spend my money on someone who gives me better customer service. I will be avoiding Moss Beach Ranch from now on. read more

I loved the trail ride experience with Kim at Moss Beach Ranch... so much so I now go for horseback riding lessons with Kim every weekend. I am in my late thirties and have always wanted to learn to ride horses. Kim told me about the ranches leasing program and I was sold. Beautiful views of the ocean, rustic trails... just what I need to get away for a moment from the hectic life of the city. I am currently learning English and basic horsemanship skills so one day I can lease ... or maybe own... my own horse. When the family is in town I sign up for additional trail rides. She is great with children and the horses are well cared for. Kim is a Sensai - lots of patience and wisdom - not just as it pertains to the horses :) I love Moss Beach Ranch and would recommend it to all who are looking to get away for a weekend ride in the half moon Bay Area. read more

I took my wife here to go horseback riding for her birthday and I have to say, it was an absolute blast! Aline was very nice and talkative. She genuinely cares for her horses and for those she is riding with and gave very concise, helpful instruction even for beginner riders. The trail ride was very scenic, and the horses were in great health and very friendly. Absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a scenic ride! read more

My wife and I went on a trail ride here for our anniversary. We've gone on 2 other trail rides in the past year elsewhere in the country, so it wasn't our first time on horseback, but we were far from "experienced". The guides were great. They made sure we were safe and comfortable with our horses, and took us up into the hills for an absolutely amazing view. Definitely recommend this ranch. They also take good care of their animals, which my wife and I felt was important when choosing a place to go. read more

Wow! What a great experience. Took my family here today (8 & 11 yr old girls). Aline was extremely helpful and very friendly. Made us all feel very comfortable as inexperienced riders. Highly recommend. Have to make reservations online, quick response time. read more

This was an incredible experience! We had great instruction, and loved how easily and efficiently she taught us to go from first stepping up to the house to trotting on the trail. The ride is stunningly beautiful, with ocean views and green hills. Would definitely recommend to a friend! read more

I have been wanting to go horseback riding for a while. So when my friend from out of state visited, we decided to do that. I researched several ranches and decided to go with Moss Beach Ranch and I'm so glad I did! (1) Easy online reservations (2) They are responsive (3) Our guide, Kimberly was fantastic. She was personable and professional. (4) The ride was on the hillside so you get a nice ocean view too. Overall, it was a great experience and I will definitely do it again! read more

This place is FANTASTIC. Instead of toys this year, we gave our 9-year-old riding lessons for a combined Christmas and Hanukah gift (for as long as we can afford it!). I asked my horse-savvy co-worker where to go and she did not hesitate to recommend Jeannette Jacobi at Moss Beach Ranch. What a great call! This barn attracts such kind and grounded people, and Jeanette has such a beautiful way with both horses and kids. I was a little worried that our girl wouldn't fit into a horse scene, but the even teens working with Jeanette are so bright and generous and such great, mellow role models. An easy (gorgeous!) drive down from SF, Moss Beach Ranch is a hidden gem that any parent with a kid who loves horses shouldn't miss. We feel so lucky to have been welcomed into this little community -- you will too. read more

I've boarded my horse at Moss Beach Ranch for a number of years and we both really like the atmosphere. I enjoy doing both arena work and trails and MBR has it all. There are a number of arenas, round pens, and workout areas, plenty of options no matter what your discipline. English and Western are both popular, and there are a number of trainers for anyone who wants lessons. People are friendly and down-to-earth with the love of horses being our common denominator. Horses are fed 3x/day and paddocks are cleaned every day. There are options for size and location of paddock, as well as pasturing. There are also turnout areas. read more

I love this barn! While visiting California, I decided that I wanted to have a horsey/ nature day. The hotel I was staying at (the Ritz) recommended Moss Beach Ranch. Once I got there I could tell that the horses are all well cared for and happy. Everyone there also seemed happy to be there, no attitude and lots of beautiful land as far as you could see. One of the instructors there took me out for a long trail ride that was so gorgeous and relaxing. He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and competent. I felt like I was in very good hands. This stables is very well run! The hills, forests and views of the ocean were amazing. I can definitely recommend riding there. Next time I'm in Half Moon Bay I will take my husband. read more

This place was hands-down the best way to be reintroduced into riding and enjoying the beautiful views and it's surrounding valleys . Friendly staff great easy location with parking ! My instructor was super friendly and easy to converse with . I truly cannot wait to go back and introduce this place to my friends and family . Thank you Kimberly Forbes ! read more

The views were beautiful, the horses were also awesome, and our guide was amazing.

All in all Moss Beach Ranch is a great place. The people here welcome you with a friendly attitude when you get there and then everyone seems to become your friend. But it isn't just that. The riding here is amazing. Trails weave throughout the open space around it and there are breath taking views from every hill. There are lessons with many instructors for all skill levels and ages. The ranch also hosts a healthy amount of schooling and three day eventing shows to keep everyone on their game. The horses, which are the most important part, are all happy and healthy and the lesson horses are the best and very well trained. When you come to moss beach ranch you know you are in special place with special people and very special horses. read more

Aline and her daughter did a fantastic job with our first real horse riding experience. The details about the horse, and great instructions while learning how to ride them, were helpful and interesting! They did a great job orienting us to our horses, while making us feel at ease. Thank you! read more

I rode at MBR for about three years with my first trainer as a rider. Mind you, I haven't been here for ages, but the reason I left was because it was only getting WORSE! They treat their horses with disrespect and overwork them completely. Many of them(other than the privately owned ones) are over 20 years old and doing multiple lessons a day. I worked the camp for a couple years and I was treated horribly. Most of the other workers sat on their phones and ate food all day while I worked my butt off to care for the horses and children. Not to mention the fact that many of the kids at the camp were brats with no respect for anyone, but that is not the barns fault. I met many wonderful people within my trainers client list but the other side of the barn was a different story. Most of the riders are stuck up and closed minded. The owner only cares about money and so do the trainers. One of the former trainers even went as far as to go on my Instagram(that was about 2 years old at the time) and cyberbully me without me knowing. I didn't notice until months later! I do have personal(disgusting) stories of how they treat their horses and riders, but the one that stands out most to me was the one about...hmmm.. lets call him Harry. Harry was about 22-25 years old. He was an Arabian gelding with cancer and my friend and I were put in charge of keeping him happy and healthy. This included VERY light rides, socialization with people and other animals, and introducing him to the right training tools for him. He was just starting to gain weight and trust when the owner moved him to the other side of the ranch and used him in the summer camp. If you do not know what that entails, it is horses standing out in the blazing sun all day, waiting to be ridden. To no ones surprise, this sweet angel of a horse passed away not a year later. If that doesn't show you how disrespectful they are to their horses, I don't know what else to tell you. Not to mention the fact that after YEARS of my trainer and I riding there, they despised us for no reason. When my trainer moved, I tried to stay with my friends at MBR, but none of the trainers wanted to train me. I had no clue why, since their riders had a fraction of the experience I had(on and off horses) but I just left and continued to grow and learn as a rider in a different location. Finding a new place to ride is hard, but don't let MBR's lower prices fool you. There are definitely better places out there! read more
