He told me outright he couldn't accommodate my work schedule (because apparently having a job is a dealbreaker for him). Okay, inconvenient but manageable. But instead of working with me like, you know, a professional, he decided to go around me and contact my terminally ill, mentally unwell mother in an attempt to pressure her into scheduling the treatment. Let me repeat that: he tried to manipulate my sick mother to get the job booked. Who does that? And when I asked for his business name so I could, at the very least, know who I was dealing with? Radio silence. Flat-out refused. As if he's running a top-secret bug operation that can't be traced back to any legitimate company. Extremely sketchy. I expected pest control. I got manipulation, guilt-tripping, and a mystery man who acts allergic to transparency. Needless to say, I went with another provider--one who doesn't play mind games or use my mom as a bargaining chip. Yelp is here for honest reviews, so here's mine: Do yourself a favor and find someone who respects your time, your family, and basic professional ethics.

(I should mention that I also received a free inspection from a big, national termite exterminating competitor company, who gave me the standard sales pitch with no context. Not only was ACE less expensive, they also gave me a better service guarantee with regard to monitoring and future treatments!) When ACE came to install the products we needed, Don and his co-worker got right down to business, and were speedy and thorough. I definitely plan on using them again for my future bug needs (though we hope not to have any)! (FYI, I believe they are Black-owned, in case you have an interest in supporting Black businesses. I googled a few pest control companies and Joroba promptly responded, and did an in person assessment the same day. Once all the logistics was worked out Jose and Walter came back at 7am the following day. They located and removed one dead squirrel. After a few hours the smell subsided but there was still an odor in a bedroom. Jose and Walter returned the same day, located and removed the second carcass. They returned the next day, patched the holes and thoroughly repaired the roof. The holes were patched so well that it's difficult to locate the repair area, the surface is very smooth. Amazing work. They were polite, cleaned up after and didn't leave until I was satisfied. They weren't rushing or trying to hurry along to get somewhere else. They will be my go to if the squirrels come back, but fingers crossed that they find a new home.

I will alter this review if their work doesn't hold up, so please take comfort if this is still here and still has five stars three months from now.) The thing is, when I woke up this morning to find a live bedbug walking across my comforter in front of my nose, I instantly went into full panic mode--not because bedbug bites are so terrible (you'll survive)--but because the PROCESS is MISERABLE. Here was what was horrible BEFORE I found Ecology Ep: *Landlord pretended like he'd never heard of such a thing, and only begrudgingly sent his "exterminator" who sprayed with generic chemicals around the perimeter and left me with hopping mad bedbugs. (Note to 25 year old me: Small Claims Court is your friend.) *I was poor and as a result (or so I thought) the guy I could afford said that I had to do a lot of work on my own. Meaning: *Bagging up everything I owned. *Carrying everything that I could wash to the laundromat. *Dry cleaning what I could afford to dry clean and throwing away the rest. *Buying a new mattress cover and putting it on my infested mattress all by myself. *Throwing out half my furniture. *And even then he had to come back twice, probably because I didn't do everything correctly (given that I was doing it all by myself.) Arnold put me through none of that. It was AMAZING. Here's why: *Great price written right on the website--and LESS than what I paid in 2007. That's shocking--you'll see why in a minute--but it was also great because it meant I could call my landlords and say: "Here's what we're doing, THIS is the price, you're legally obligated to pay for it, and we're doing it tonight before the problem becomes insane. Also, it's coming out of my rent." They said, "Oh my god oh my god fine!" *They guaranteed the work at the industry standard, also right on the website. Another thing I could tell my landlords. *They're licensed and insured and used proper invoicing, also great for dealing with landlords. *Ecology Ep showed up the same day I called. *Arnold brought a small ARMY of people. Four workers, all very sweet. *The price INCLUDED mattress covers for my bed AND my futon. *THEY put the mattress covers on (the worst job ever.) *THEY moved all my furniture--but I didn't have to throw anything away! *THEY bagged up all the things that needed washing. *THEY helped me carry all my stuff to the laundromat. *Instead of putting me through the cost of dry cleaning, THEY brought a steam cleaner and steamed all my good clothes. *AND they didn't just spray with Ecologically sound (but guaranteed!) chemicals, but they ALSO sealed the cracks in my floors and steamed all my books and things I probably couldn't clean on my own. *AND they found the bedbug nest. And killed those jerks. *AND they were extremely kind and lovely about it, from beginning to end. A real plus when you're traumatized by bedbugs. Also, I asked Arnold to check another property while he was in the area, and he found no bedbugs. He could easily have sold me on more work, but he didn't lie, above-and-beyond compassion and professionalism I found consistent with the negative review and his response listed here. Frankly, his straightforward response to the negative review on his free service was an additional reason for me to hire him. Arnold told me he has a lot of contracts now with a lot of large shelters, dorms, and schools, and I believe it. As a young single woman, Ecology EP's help was enormous at an unbelievable price. I strongly recommend them to others who need help.

I chose to work with Davis Pest Control because he was local, friendly, and offered a very…read morereasonable rate to exterminate my small studio apartment. I began to have my doubts as soon as he got to work - He didn't do much of an inspection of my bed, and simply sprayed the thing with a run-of-the mill insecticide canister you can buy at any hardware store. OK, I thought...maybe this is just how it's done. I figured I'd leave the apartment and let him finish up, and asked him specifically to spray inside the cabinets beneath my sink (crazy, I know, but I had actually discovered a dead bed bug in there. My apartment is small and I wasn't gonna take any chances). When I returned we chatted a bit about the bugs, and I had told him how I think I may have gotten them (but you can't ever be too sure because its NYC. You can pick them up even in the subway). Once he left, I decided that I wasn't going to de-bag any of my clothes or possessions, but instead put on a (laundered) bed sheet and spend the night). It appeared that he had done a great deal of spraying around my bed, but didn't spray beneath the sink like I had asked About three days later I started noticing bites. Fortunately my apartment was still prepped, so I called Davis to ask for a follow up, he said that it would cost me an additional $100.00 per follow up. This is absurd, since exterminators should always include follow ups. If they don't mention it, be sure to ask! I then called my landlord who agreed that I had probably just been scammed, and they called Davis. Davis then told them what I had told him about how I thought I had gotten the bugs, and about how he believed I may have brought them back. Talk about petty? Long story short, I had to get another exterminator. They offered me a similar price and offered to come back three times free of charge. I ended up tossing my bed frame and a wooden desk chair, both of which Davis sprayed and said I wouldn't have to throw away. This other exterminator also found two bugs under my SINK and said that I'd have been looking at a real infestation had I waited any longer. Do NOT use this guy. He's personable at first, but a F R A U D. To Davis Pest Control: If I could give you zero stars I definitely would.

Within hours of treatment, the bug infestation was effectively eliminated. I tried the ultimate test by leaving out a plate of food; No response from creepy visitors.
