Mosaic is the main Restaurant serving the Hilton hotel in Barcelona.
Being upset with the overall service provided by my hotel just down the road from this one, and being pleased with the Hilton in the past, I felt this was a great place to come for breakfast.
The Hilton hotel inside is really nice, but I will review this on a seperate basis.
Mosaic is basically your typical Hilton or even Hotel restaurant, in the morning up until 10:30 it serves a buffet style breakfast to satisfy the continental and British markets such as:
Fried Eggs, Scrambled Eggs, Beans, Bacon, Chicken Sausages
- Also with a selection of cheeses, cooked meats, fruits and cakes.
The hotel staff here were really friendly and did have awareness of the english language and gluten free, they sorted out some bread for me from a Barcelona gluten free bakery and even a few croissants in with the price which was good.
For the quality, the breakfast was cheap at 24.50 euros each per person, or as I'm aware hotel guests get it for free or at a much discounted rate, which once again is a real shame as I do now regret not choosing to stay at the Hilton.
On most occasions the food was good, although I did have some issues with my final day in Barcelona where the beans were cold and they had to be heated up, I did often find them to be hard but this was typical of Barcelona based on my breakfast at Atrium Palace too, which was awful and even more expensive than this one.
Mosaic do also make you extras such as poached eggs and omelettes, away from the typical buffet event though it's not labelled, I didn't like the omelette however the poached eggs were made very well and were much better than the fried eggs in my opinion.
Their was a decent selection of everything else too.
Free wi-fi is avaliable, which is run by the hotel, you don't even need your room number, just an email address but that might be because I'm a HH member, the hotels loyalty scheme.
I think Mosaic deserves a solid 3 stars as it does a hotel breakfast quite well, but issues with the quality or temperature of some food on some occasions and the slow service when it comes to putting an order through, to actually getting it through your table makes me feel Mosaic only deserves 3 stars, I also dislike how they don't make this more noticeable, as there is no signs suggesting what else you can ask the kitchen to order, such as omelettes and poached eggs, and I just made a punt and got lucky they could do them. I was also really upset they would put crackers onto my plate with scrambled egg, knowing I was sin gluten and couldn't have them, nor did I ask for them, which if I'd have ate them, or if they'd have been touching my eggs, could have left me to be quite ill, which I really don't want with a flight booked for later in the evening.
UPDATE: After some consideration, the excellent service here and the fact they understood my dietary requirements and served me in a friendly manner, good food I knew wouldn't make me ill, which I needed after having food nearby in a place where I found rats on the premises, this place deserves four stars for the good quality and safe food, and although their are some things this place can do to improve, I feel it is a worthy holder of a four star rating from myself. read more
