A supermarket review is not something that I would normally consider writing, as I usually see shopping as a chore to be endured and not enjoyed. However, the revamped Morrisons Partick store has transformed the usual boring shopping experience into a game of 'guess what this is used for' in their fruit and vegetable section. I have never heard of some of the exotic items they now have in stock, and have even less of an idea what to do with them; but it certainly makes for an interesting shopping experience! We've shopped here for many years, way before Waitrose, M&S and Tescos moved into Byres Road, or Sainsburys into Crow Road. Morrisons has always been the best value of anywhere around, even if their selection of goods in the old store was clearly geared to the - how shall I put it - somewhat unimaginative dietary requirements of the local populace? In part this was due to lack of space, but for years after it originally opened it was difficult to find much food suitable for vegetarians and those on restricted diets. For a while it was overshadowed by the flashy new Waitrose at the top of Byres Road, and there has been the ever-present threat of a mega-Tescos opening right across the road from Morrisons on the site of the old Partick Central Station. Now however - following their purchase of the adjacent video store and haberdashery outlet, they now own the entire block and have doubled in size. The new-look store feels much roomier than it used to be, and the range of exotic international foods is hugely impressive, particularly in the vast fruit and veg section at the entrance. Presumably this reflects the increasingly ethnic population of Partick and environs, or possibly the location at Partick's transport hub brings in a lot of customers from farther afield by bus, subway or train. It is certainly the easiest supermarket in the area to get to by public transport. There is a new cafe as well; and although I haven't sampled that yet, it is conveniently placed for those waiting on a train or bus connection, or waiting for their taxi arriving to collect them with their shopping - a relatively common sight at this Morrisons. I'm fascinated by the green vegetable counter with its system of pipes wafting cold fog over the produce. I think this is the first time I've seen such a system in Scotland, although they are common in the States. You can't help but wonder how long they will continue to sell the more exotic fresh produce though, especially such rare delicacies as samphire at 16 quid per 100g. Let's make the most of it and enjoy it while it lasts. read more

Morrisons is a good alternative to the larger but more expensive Sainsburys on Crow Road. As such it is usually my supermarket of choice when I'm in the area. There is usually a few spaces availible in the car park as it seems to me that most customers walk here or use public transport. The only problem is that cars entering from Dumbarton Road cannot exit out that way too - they must take a big detour round the back on to Beith Street instead. Luckily there is always plenty of trolleys and baskets availible though. Even though it is a medium-sized supermarket, there is a good few CDs, DVDs and video games availible, plus other odds and ends like stationary. There is a good selection of alcohol too - not that I would ever be interested in any of that of course, ahem. The meat and fish counters are quite big and there are certain other products availible here that you surprisingly cannot get in bigger supermarkets like Tescos, for example Bernard Matthews chicken fillets (where would I be without them). The queues at the checkouts can be pretty horrendous in late afternoon-early evening, though the new self-service checkouts are quick if you know how to use them properly. They aren't as easy to use as the Tesco ones but they aren't as difficult as many of the greetin-faced customers make out. There is also customer toilets - not always a feature in supermarkets of this size. read more

While they can't quite compete with Tesco on some levels, Morrisons does have a unique charm that sets it apart from it's fellow supermarket chains. Being a Yorkshire-based company, Morrison's origin shines through in their stores. The butcher and deli counters have an old fashioned market-town style aesthetic applied, and meat and potato pies and pork scratchings are readily available. All it needs is a few whippets, and a bearded, truck driving serial killer to complete the atmosphere. The fact that Morrison's do stock a few things a little bit different than the other supermarkets is it's main plus point. I've always been a fan of the old pork scratchings and though their competitors have now caught up, Morrison's were the first to start selling them in Scotland. Likewise the pies, cakes and bakery products just look and feel that little bit more homemade than elsewhere. The guys at the butcher counter even still wear what I can only describe as "butcher's hats", and it's those little touches that do it for me. There are bigger and better Morrison's stores than this, including some with cafes that do a stellar fried breakfast, but If you live in the area then this is definitely the place to go for your weekly shop. read more

This is a decently stocked, fairly priced supermarket and one of the few large-ish supermakrets that's easy for me to use as a non-driver. As well as a fantastic fresh produce section I really like their specialist counters; they have a salad bar, a butcher, a fishmonger, a baker and a delicatessen. The fishmonger is especially great, I'm not sure if it's all branches of Morrisons or just this one, but the fish is always good and surprisingly reasonably priced. They always seem to be running deals (50% off, buy one get one free, etc) on at least one brand of each of the items I need most and it's rare that something feels overpriced. The aisles are wide and brightly lit and there are no bottlenecks that I can think of. The self service checkouts actually work pretty well but the queues for the regular checkouts don't often get too long either. Of course, it helps that this is based right by Partick Subway and Train station and that there are bus links nearby and a bike rack. If ever there was a supermarket that's easy to get to, it's this one. The staff are pretty great too but honestly, the store is well enough laid out that I haven't often had to ask for help. I think the only thing they run out of too quickly is fresh herbs and certain odd things like fresh ginger. Otherwise it's really rare that I have to look elsewhere to get the last few items on my grocery list. I notice that they're starting to add even more less common things as well now, last time I was there I saw giant papaya and casava. Wouldn't have a clue what to do with them but I'm keen to find out. Bonus points for decent selection of homeware, and magazines, although their CD, DVD and games selection is a bit weak, but then, who goes to Morrisons for new video games? Extra bonus points for the attached cafe who totally saved my life a few weeks ago when I was a bit worse for wear from the night before. read more

I don't mind this store l find it stocks unusual items you cant buy in some other stores Like Maltsalt. One drawback is that stench of fish lingering around everyday without fail and that puts me off buying any seafood from here. Note if you cash a £50 pound note here they have to call a supervisor to check your money, you get the feeling of not being trusted but l suppose they do have to check. read more

As far as Morrison's goes - this is a pretty good one. The car park isn't huge but to be honest this supermarket is really conveniently placed for all areas of Partick - so you'll probably be walking there anyway. It has a large variety of stock, which means that when you fall in love with a new type of cereal (happens to me often, honest) they can always be relied on to stock it. PLUS, I happen to know for a fact that this is a particularly honest Morrison's store. How do I know? Well, I got into the habit of shoving my debit card in my back pocket every time I decided to head down to Morrison's. This, of course, ended in a pretty stressful episode when I got home and realised that it was no longer in there. Damn. My superstar boyfriend though decided to phone Morrison's - and they had it. Result! I went down with some ID and a sheepish grin and they reunited me with my card. It may interest you to know that they had hundreds of them - and that they have a whole system for storing and returning that that revolves around raffle tickets. read more

I was visiting Partick, a little while ago and happened to arrive early. I had visited the Morrisons cafe a few times for a cup of tea or a snack and decided to try the breakfast, they have the 'normal' offerings of traditional, vegetarian and smaller snacks including a roll and sausage etc...I usually opt for a vegetarian breakfast but noticed that they had a 'make your own breakfast' opinion with vegetarian options (beans, egg, etc...) being 60p per item and meat items being 70p (I think) I chose beans, square sausage, two fried eggs and two potato scones alongside a cup of tea. It only took around five minutes to arrive and was piping hot, my mum decided to have a roll and sausage which she enjoyed and would definitely recommend! I would definitely visit Morrisons cafe for a breakfast in the future if I was Partick. read more

Oh Mozzers Partick...I so wanted you to be fantastique like the Mozzers at Barrack Street when I heard you were getting revamped...but sadly you have disappointed me. Maybe I had high expectations but I am a bit unimpressed with the new look Partick store. Sorry Mr.Mozzer. So they got rid of one of my favourite wee shops in Partick (Homestyle) and also Blockbusters *sad face* to make way for what I presumed was going to be one fandabbidozey brand new spanking excellent Morrisons store. Then it opened...the cafe I like but I still begrudge the fact that you stand on the grave of that wee hardware/everything-but-the-kitchen-sink shop. Where am I supposed to buy all the random kinda shiz I never thought I would ever need but do from now?!? *sigh* Anyway, I mustn't let sentiment get in the way of this review. So, onto the actual supermarket bit ~ Firstly I don't like the odd layout; it still seems half-completed to me; things are still in random places & the aisles still don't seem that much wider & the placement of items seem a bit strange too; for example it goes from fresh vegetables & fruit into around the corner fizzy drinks & booze?! Say wha'? Crazy shizzle. Also I am mucho disappointed that now it seems their fancy disco vegetable cooling system seems to not be getting used...why? The past few weeks I have been in it has been either not switched on/not doing its funky disco-dry ice thang or the whole counter completely empty. Great. Another gripe of mine is the 'new' opening hours ~ they are still only open until 9pm (8pm on a Sunday) which I think is ludicrous in a place like Partick. They are surrounded by students, young professionals & slap bang next to a large public transport interchange yet they decide to shut up shop at 9pm. Daft. Even Sainsburys on Crow Road opens until 10pm so c'mon Mozzers! Do us & yourself a favour. There are some good things about the new look store - it is still bigger than before; therefore more stock & choice of items (although I have found a few items they used to stock when they were smaller they now no longer stock at all. What's that all about?), a nicer bakery & fresh meat/cheese/fish counters, more frozen items & better selection of fresh fruit & vegetables. Also they now sell Rimmel make-up which is better than none or a slap on the face with a wet fish (obvs). If they sorted out the aisles in here a bit better & changed the opening hours then I would be a much happier customer but for now I actually don't think this store is very much of an improvement on the old one..sorry! read more

This Morrisons branch alongside Partick station is really handy if you're stopping in to pick up groceries after work. It has pretty much suits all your grocery needs (including bakery, deli, meat and fish counter) at very reasonable prices. The only drawbacks are it can get super crowded during the evening rush (so prepare for queues), and it's not open late enough like Sainsbury's on Crow Road. Other than that, it's great to have this affordable choice when you need to nip in for some ingredients on your way home. read more

I really do love Morrisons as a whole. Any time I have the option to shop at a Morrisons, I do! This particular Morrisons is a pretty decent size, and has loads of goods available that the smaller shops around might not have. I usually visit this particular location when I'm in search of a few things I know they have when I'm out. For instance, spicy cashews!! I have a random craving for salty/savoury things and these fit the bill perfectly. Only trouble is that Morrison's is the only place I've found recently that sell them for a reasonable price. Anyone who enjoys nuts (enter joke here), will appreciate a low priced bag when they can find them. Anyway, they have a fab fruit and veg section, which recently got moved around, so it doesn't feel as smooth as it once was, but there is still plenty of fresh options to choose from and that makes me happy. I love getting my fruit and veg here, as it's always fresh and when I'm looking for something specific, they usually have it. This particular morrison's has a cafe attached to it, which I've yet to try, but other people say the food it pretty good at affordable prices. The only real reason I've ever gone in to the cafe, was to use the toilet for a quick pit stop. The staff are always really nice and once they realise I'm American, they always seem to want to chat about where they've been in America and for what reasons. It's great! It truly becomes a small world when people mention that they actually travel to Connecticut. Anyway, this Morrison's is great, just as most of them are. Not the biggest one around but it gets the job done! read more

As someone who still wakes up in a cold sweat during the night when thinking back to Morrisons' store in Byres Road, I really shouldn't give its Partick incarnation my business. Over-priced, under-stocked, unfriendly, it truly was one of the worst places on earth. However, this one couldn't be further from that. Arguably the best supermarket in the West End, Morrisons Partick is considerably cheaper than Sainsburys, Waitrose and Marks and Spencer, and stocks almost three time as much as the nearby Tesco Metro stores. With a fantastic deli, fish counter and bakery on site, it's also one of the best equipped in the city. What keeps the crowds coming back more than anything, however, are the fantastic deals, particularly on alcohol. These change on a weekly basis and make it one of the cheapest places to pick up a crate of beer or couple of bottles of wine in the vicinity - something Partick's student community tends to discover fairly quickly. read more

If I could summarise this supermarket in two words it would be: cramped and overcrowded. I generally dislike this Morrisons - all the aisles are narrow and tall and I find myself wandering about aimlessly trying to find things which don't seem to be in a logical location - after two years living in near proximity I finally located stock cubes today (win). The staff also have a nasty habit of ID'ing me when I don't have any ID (I'm certain they know telepathically when I've just wandered along with a bank card). I'm a get-in-get-out as quick as possible supermarket shopper, not assisted by the massive crowds that seem to descend on this shop just before I arrive (granted at about 5.15 of a weekday evening) All that said, it's six minutes walk from my flat, it's cheaper than Sainsbury's and they do a fabulous wheat, spelt and rye loaf so they will continue to get my custom. read more

I may just be a fan because it's the closest decently sized food store to me, but I like it for a bit more than that. It's really hard to explain why is my preferred shop in the area. The best I can think of is that it's often cheap but the quality isn't bad. It's a place I go to because I need to buy food and I found it fits my needs the best. I can't really get excited over it. It's distinctly OK. This Morrisons felt undersized before the upgrade that had it take over the Blockbuster location next door along with the home shop. The upgrade also caused them to completely rearrange the shop. It still has flaws but the increased size has allowed them to sell a wider variety of items. The shop can get really crowded but it feels less cramped than it used to be. They have a deli, meat counter, fish counter, bakery, and even a dedicated pizza counter. I've not had the pizzas but they're reasonably priced and look OK. The selection isn't the best for the size of store. Their international section is there but generally not impressive. Unlike even the smaller Tescos, they don't have a section for American foods. This isn't the worst thing but is surprising. My only note of warning is that the self-checkout tilks are awful and to avoid them. There is a cafe attached now but I've got had food there and so can't comment on the quality. read more

I like Morrisons. Unfortunately, there aren't that many of them in Glasgow. When I go shopping I tend to buy brand name products on my toiletries, frozen items and soft drinks etc so Tesco usually win hands down. Morrisons however have really good produce and meat which makes them a good candidate for 'a big shop' for me rather than my usual wee Sainsburys stitch. This Morrisons has a really good selection of alcohol as well it must be said and there are plenty of checkouts which keep things moving along well. The aisles are really close together which is a pain and makes trolleys a no no for me. I would rather fall over with an overfilled basket than accidentally crush a child with a roomy trolley. Morrisons is a great addition to the west end, amongst its pricey competitors, offering amazing deals such as "buy one get two free". There is plenty here to fill your trolley with, from its freshly baked bread selection to its well stocked deli counter. Situated beside Partick train and underground stations, it's the ideal place to pop into for some shopping on the way home. read more

This supermarket is the best in the West End (going to wait for a while before I make my mind up about Waitrose). I love the pre packed tubs of olives, sunblush tomatoes and cheese from the deli counter. The wine section is an absolute winner with tons of information and recommendations of accompaniments. There are always brilliant half price deals too. Only rough point is the toilet which is a bit minging. read more

I read the breakfast reviews but as I don't eat breakfast out I would take Kirsty's review as truthful as she is totally honest. But main meals oh god not so nice. They can take 30 mins to arrive, lasagne comes slopped onto a plate not looking nice, chips come dry, soup can be thick and pasty, the cakes comes without flavour so while they can manage breakfast then haven't passed it to there main meals, very under staffed So maybe go for breakfast but that's all read more

I like going to Morrison's because its retro look reminds me of the "grocery stores" you used to get in 80's episodes of Sesame Street. It's hard to concentrate on finding the best shopping deals because I end up distracted, pondering if the uniform they're wearing is so futuristic that whatever they wore last century has come back round in fashion. But we're not reviewing fashion here. We come to Morrisons because we're not in Tesco and we're not in Tesco because we want to pretend we're having a nice day out, shopping and counting fruit and vegetables like in Sesame Street. morrisons'The New Look' Partick!....well wot can i say as opposed to my previous review during the renovation, to acquire this new structural layout(and a good one@that need i say!)i still stand by some of my safety concerns and elements at the time tho(renovation period)but knew it would be good for the punters of Partick in the end up,you cant pull a tooth without pliers eh?lol....although the store may have slight teething probs' the store is still fabtastic and i am enjoying my explorative(?)discoveries,so i stand corrected,out of 'ma cream puff'and with my tail between my legs for the mo!.....ps the store also hosts a new reasonably priced cafe for a humble coffee meet/chat with a friend or a more hearty meal or snack....its gr8 to see the locals embrace this environment as after their shop'they relax get re fueled anticipating their journeys home. read more
