Mishi Nova is the heart of this cute hidden gem of a salon. I have been seeing her for hair cuts and coloring at her previous location for about 2 years, and she is my secret weapon. It's always fun and entertaining to sit in her chair, since she loves her work and has a great sense of humor. But most importantly, she will give you a fab hair cut -- she is a great listener and has a knack for translating your hair wishes into something that really works. I have curly hair, and not every stylist knows how to deal with it. Thank goodness for Mishi! PS -- Mishi is also a talented colorist. She actually paints your hair for super natural highlights. What can I say? I am sucker for anyone who can really implement technology in their business. But seriously, Mishi's great. This girl is going places. Some of the stuff that I did not expect from a hair salon that surprised from Morphic: 1. You can book an appointment online. Plus you get info for time it will take and even a photo of final product! 2. Her salon is cute, personal, and conveniently located in FIDI-next to BART. 3. I got to play around with her iPad and got seriously informed during my time there. I mean c'mon? Where do you get to do that. So now on to the hair. I got ombre done on my hair and not only she explained what she was doing but she also got the shade right. I love it. And while my hair has a new look, it's still looks natural--like it could be my own shade. I am in complete awe of the quality of her work. I found this place after getting a HORRIBLE haircut from Code salon and a very over priced "calico hair" balayage job from Eclipse salon. Emi is a lifesaver! Can't say enough good things about her, she listened to what I wanted and took the time to make sure we were on the same page before we started. She did a meticulous job of placement which is the most important part of balayage and fixed my layers as best as anyone could. My hair looked amazing - not only that her assistant was sweet enough to grab me lunch across the street while I waited for my hair to process. Updating my review because Mishi was really sweet and thorough about making a-mends (get it, mends) to the breakage that occurred after my balayage. It doesn't magically grow the hair back but the trim and Olaplex treatment have my hair feeling much better. It's clear she cares about customer happiness so I'm willing to give this another go. I've been a client of Mishi for close to 3 years, and I'm happy to say that her talents have totally improved my self esteem and changed my outlook on my appearance. I've never been good with hair, and she always manages to cut/color my hair in a style that's totally adorable and in style, but not hard for my hairbrush-incompetent hands to manage. Mishi truly is an artist! I was in search of an ombre colorist and she did an excellent job at blending all the colors in so naturally. I had a terrible experience at Head Spa Salon in the Marina where they REALLY messed up my virgin hair. It was not only dry, but a drastic two tone of blonde and black. Why would you do that to someone's hair and really think it looks good? Mishi saved my embarrassment and now I have a beautiful ombre! She's very easy to talk to and it's really great to see her accomplishments with Morphic. I only wish her prices weren't so expensive! I would go back a lot more often! read more

This review is long overdue! I found Mishi the same way I'm sure many of you did, desperately searching for ombre hair in San Francisco. I researched many different stylists claiming to have ombre knowledge but Morphic's reviews and website definitely stood out above the rest. I made an online appointment (super fast and convenient!) and came in about a week later. I showed Mishi some pictures and we talked about what I wanted and then she went to work. The cut and color turned out beautifully but when I got home I realized it really wasn't as big of a change as I had originally wanted. To Mishi's credit, I mentioned that I was getting married in a month so I'm sure she didn't want to give me something drastic that close to my wedding day. I e-mailed her and she offered to do a bit more to the color at no additional cost later that week. At my second appointment she was still pleasant and fun to talk to (and didn't give me the cold shoulder like other stylists would under such circumstances), great customer service! I left with exactly what I wanted! I will say that it's pricey, but you can tell before you get there how much it's going to cost so there's no reason to lower the stars based on that fact alone. Ive been to see Mishi over the years and have never had someone design my bangs as wonderfully as she does. Not only does she work with you to understand what will be the best style to complement your look - she also takes into account how much effort you want to put into your hair everyday. She designed the perfect 5 minute hair style for me - and took the time to show me how to get the results I usually only get in the salon. Im so excited that Im going to get my color done with her in a couple of weeks - I have never let anyone color my hair before, but I trust Mishi completely and am looking forward to what she can do. --- I have straight hair and she did an excellent job of giving it volume, shape and texture. The location was slightly confusing to find the first time I visited, as Morphic is hidden somewhere in a labyrinth of individual rooms at Sola Studios, but after sitting down in the comfy chair, everything turned out just right. came in here years ago but never wrote a review. I came in for balayage. My hair already had some highlights toward the bottom. Mishi convinced me to get dark low lights along with my balayage in order to make the highlights stand out better. I told her that my goal was to have lighter hair, not darker, but she said that they would help achieve that look. Wrong. My hair ended up looking darker in general and I could barely tell I had highlights. I spent $300 (including a trim). overpriced to say the least and wouldn't recommend. You can get just as good elsewhere for a reasonable price. read more

Last night was my very first Morphic experience and I have to say Mishi is the best person I could have ever had to transform my hair into what I really wanted. I love my new ombre hair and I cant wait to see the transition my hair will have in a few short months. My hair was dyed extremely blonde and my natural hair color is very dark. As my roots grew I knew the maintenance to keep my hair blonde was going to be damaging in the long run. Looking for a change I found Morphic and I'm so happy I did. This review is for Paul who did a wonderful job fixing a bad hair cut from another salon. The cut was uneven, choppy, and all around an embarrassing mess. I found Morphic on Yelp, called, and they got me in last minute, 3 hours later. Not only did Paul do a fantastic job fixing it, but he was knowledgable, open, and friendly. Mishi Get's It. San Francisco is just a bit behind the times when it comes to hair and beauty. I came from L.A. where you can get the best in hair and makeup because of the concentration of talent there to work in the film industry. After moving back to S.F. I found it is almost impossible to find balayage along with an awesome cut and style in one stting. Until I came to see Mishi @ Morphic. I got the cut, the color and style I was accustomed to getting from Fredric Fekkai stylists. And even without blowing out my hair here at home, just letting it air dry, my own natural curl is coming out in a beautiful way it never did before I saw Mishi, and I am in the process of GROWING MY HAIR OUT! Like it is supposed to be awkward right now and it looks really beautiful, rich, healthy and CUTE! Oh and I love the shampoo and conditioner I bought from Morphic too, it's called DermOrganic it leaves my hair shiny, clean and soft without any chemicals at all and best of all for my totally sensitive skin, no reactions at all. read more

What a great experience visiting Mishi was. I'm a guy(obviously) and have always been hesitant of the whole salon world. It's typically not my bag -- at all! -- but I'm def glad I made the exception. I can guarantee that the next time I'm looking/feeling a bit scraggly, I'd happily pay her a return visit. Speaking of the 'whole salon world', her set-up on Market St is quite unique and I totally love it. She has her own dedicated space, with control over the environment to help make you feel comfortable right off the bat. There's no catty gossip-girls going on. I just want to start off by saying Mishi and her team are wonderful people and can do a great balayage. However, I couldn't get a successful chroma coloring on my hair. I wanted to get lavender hair and I understand that it can take a few appointments to get the results. But my last and final service here 6 months ago was unacceptable. I was at the salon for double processes and was guaranteed to have lavender or at least purple hair by the time that I left. It was not the case. I left at 1AM and my hair was dripping wet. Mishi scheduled at least 3 other clients during my appointment which was fine because I know that when my hair is processing, she can definitely style and cut other clients' hair. What I found unacceptable was the fact that I was asked to blow dry my hair myself. That's not good business practice as a salon. Overall I was charged $650 (tips not included) for my hair. I ended up getting a partial refund and Mishi said I could get a complimentary color correction but I didn't want to go back. Initially she didn't want to refund me and said she gave me a complimentary hair cut during my appointment--but I didn't ask for a hair cut anyway so yeah...I truly like the team but I wish I was charged fairly for the services provided. When asked by my colleagues and other people what happened to my hair, since my roots weren't even colored, I told them my experience and everyone suggested I write a review on Yelp since it will help others. Overall, I don't want to bash Morphic since I have had good balayage experiences there, but chroma colors are not their forte. read more

My highlights has turned to green and copper from swimming in chlorinated pools all summer. I decided to search for a colorist that specializes in Asian Hair. My color treated hair turns to a copper red after a month. I searched on Yelp and found this place and looked at the photos of people's hair. I was lucky to get an appointment within 2 days because there was a cancelation so I was able to be squeezed in. Otherwise the reservation to see Mishi could range from a week to a month. I showed up 10 mins early and waited in the hallway. They have chairs set up for that. They were so nice to offer me coconut water to drink and a stack of current magazines to read while I wait. Mishi took before and after photos of my hair. She asked me how do I take care of my hair and assessed what she can do to fix the damages. In the end she did a great job in fixing my over processed and uneven hair. My hair does not look like a copper penny but a nice nutmeg blondish brown. Ahh! I'm super late in writing this review..but that shouldn't be a reflection of Mishi and her amazing talent! LOVE LOVE LOVE her! Honestly I've bounced around to salon after salon, never really finding a chair that hit my sweet spot. And because of that my hair has always taken a back seat..growing out to insane lengths with no touch ups to my roots in years! Thus resulting in some hybrid ombre thing that never looked right. Which brought me to Mishi! I typed in 'Ombre' to yelp and out came Morphic! Scheduled an apt. on her web page (very easy) and boom I was in! I love the set up she's got going on, it's one chair in this cute, sliding glass door room, where she has her own thing going on! I literally spoke some jibberish of how I thought I wanted my hair and she totally got me. Ombre was RAD and the cut is PERFECT. It's the cut I've always wanted but could never quite articulate to the stylist. She nailed it. I'm not a regular to the salon, but when I do go- it will always be back to her. I haven't been to morphic in a while but nonetheless this review is log overdue. Mishi was able to accommodate my personal request for a private, female only hairdresser experience. She did balayage on my curly hair and it was the most beautiful result I've ever had from a hairdress to date. Mishi took her time discussing the different hair color shades, didn't rush at all and even gave me a mini tutorial and tips on how to style my curly hair... the appointments I've had have never been rushed and Mishi is by far the sweetest and most talented hairdresser I've been to! read more

Mishi is absolutely brilliant - love her and her work. Have been meaning to write this review for a year now - I'm actually from Houston, but was making a trip to SF last December and desperately wanted to get an ombre done there since there weren't too many salons in Houston who could do it well. Mishi and her sister were nice enough to accommodate me at the last minute knowing that I was coming in from out of town. I was a little apprehensive, since the color I wanted to go with was a little out of my usual comfort zone. But Mishi made me feel at ease by explaining the process, making sure I was comfortable with the color, and was generally really pleasant and fun to talk to. She even recommended places for me to visit while I was in town. Wish I'd taken pictures of the final product, but I absolutely loved my ombre. Love this place!! I have recently moved here to SF and been looking for someone to cut my hair. I have called around to a few salons, which the never called me back to schedule. So I went back to the good ol' yelp and found Morphic. They make it easy to schedule online and they send you a reminder of your appt. It's always hard to find someone to trust with your hair but I have found Paul Victor. He is very friendly and very knowledgeable. I moved to SF about a month ago and this was my first choice for a hair salon to get my hair done in time for my first day at a new job. Emi was amicable, perspicacious, and knowledgeable the whole way through and the rest of the staff was the same way. I booked through the online booking system, which was very easy to use and had great descriptions for all the services. When I arrived to my appointment, Emi noticed the condition of my hair and suggested I get Olaplex, which turned out to be a great decision. I ended up getting a full balayage, haircut, and Olaplex treatment and took home some anti-yellow shampoo and Olaplex as well. The total cost was above my initial budget, but it was worth it because I don't visit the salon often and I aim for a hairstyle that is long lasting and something I can maintain on my own. There were several things about my experience that were above and beyond what I expected based on my prior visits to other salons. For one, Emi did not give me a one size fits all hair cut, and instead paid close attention to my specific situation. She noticed that my hair was heavier on the right side of my face, so she trimmed accordingly. In addition, she gave me great tips on how to do my roots, and even did extra research on the drugstore products I was using. Overall, you can tell that everyone at the salon really cares about their customers and their business. Just a joy to spend an afternoon with and didn't feel any pressure to do anything or buy anything I didn't need. The salon was very clean and had a nice serene atmosphere. Three years ago, I paid $300 for balayage with Mishi. It was the worst and most expensive highlight/balayage I've ever had! There was no blending of colors; basically Mishi left a very delineated crown of plain black hair at the top (like I was wearing a small hat or something), with streaky brownish/blonde highlights starting a third of the way down my head. I mean, it looked like I had highlights 6 months ago. Furthermore, the brown/blonde color turned very brassy and yellow in a month. I basically had to get it redone as I couldn't stand looking at it! I had treated myself (never having paid that much for hair color) to what I thought was a reputable expert in balayage at the time, but have since learned that that isn't how it's supposed to look at all! The point of balayage is that it looks blended and free-form, not striped and harsh. I have had many successful, long lasting balayage since. At the time, I felt bad leaving a negative review for a small business, but my personal experience was that I wasted a huge amount of money and had a poor to mediocre outcome from Morphic, and wanted to let others know that it's worth checking around for better color service. read more

This review is for Ms. Tee; The services I received were highlights in a (Pravana) hunter green, the olaplaex treatments and a haircut. My color and cut came out better than I expected and I'm glad I went with Tee (and Morphic) for an unnatural hair color service. It's a tad pricey, but the quality and service is worth your pretty penny. As for the salon atmosphere, it was very clean, professional, in a good location, and Tee/Emi/Christina were very inviting and accommodating. I've been coming to Emi since March of this year and couldn't be happier. I first came to her for balayage highlights and a cut and was so happy. She brought me to a lighter color than I had ever had but did it in a way that wasn't harsh or unnatural looking. I just had my third appointment with her yesterday and am thrilled with my rich, brunette balayage highlights and trimmed hair for fall. Emi takes her time to make sure you are happy with the results and explains everything along the way. Everyone who works there is super nice and they always offer water and coconut water (so yummy) at appointments. P.S. The first time Mishi cut my hair, I was hooked. I love that she doesn't try to mold my hair to fit into some haircut from a magazine, but instead really observes how a haircut will fit the natural curves and waves of my tresses. For the first time in my life, I colored my hair because I trust Mishi wholeheartedly. I'm thrilled with the very natural result that just looks brighter and shinier, but not overly died because of the hair painting technique she uses. Oh where the start.... l wanted a Giselle Bundchen balayage... first went to Edo, where they gave me an appt with another colorist since my old one moved to LA... She did a terrible job. l came back in (to Edo) for her to fix it... Again, it got worse. l am very attached to my hair, and l want it too look as natural as possible. Crying and stomping l yelped a new hair salon that could fix it. Mishi had the best reviews, only 5 stars. And now that l've been her client l am not suprised. She is simply the B E S T . Not only did she fix the terrible mess Edo did to my hair, which l thought would be impossible, she also gave me exactly the hair l wanted. Natural, blended color that made me look blonde but not fake. Never have l gotten so many compliments on my hair, and the best of all : " it looks so natural !". You can tell she knows what she is doing just by her confidence. l couldn't be happier.
