Unfortunately, our experiences with the front desk have been consistently frustrating and seem to be getting worse. The most concerning experience occurred when my husband was diagnosed with melanoma. After receiving such a frightening diagnosis, we waited and waited for an appointment and for information about what would happen next. We were frustrated by the lack of communication and ultimately contacted UCSF, where we were able to get an appointment quickly and received a clear explanation of the diagnosis and next steps. We've had other frustrating administrative experiences as well. I handle the medical scheduling for our family because my husband has a demanding work schedule. When I called to make an appointment for him, I was told that he needed to sign a HIPAA authorization form. I asked if they could email the form so he could sign it, but I was told he had to come into the office in person just to sign it. This seemed unnecessarily difficult. More recently, before making appointments, the front desk required us to pay outstanding balances immediately--including one bill we had not even received yet. We use an HSA to pay our medical expenses, so being required to make an unexpected payment on the spot was particularly frustrating. We have stayed with Southern Marin Dermatology because we appreciate the doctors and nurses and believe they provide good medical care. But dealing with the front desk has become increasingly difficult. I hope the practice takes these concerns seriously and improves its communication, billing practices, and overall administrative experience. Good medical care deserves an equally professional and compassionate front-office experience.

Perhaps most concerningly, while most massage places have allowed us to select our masseuse, Ritual prohibits it. I was required to book via a third-party website and there is no option to select your massage therapist. They just assign you someone. If you want a woman for purposes of safety and comfort, too bad, you get who you get. If you book here you will pay $250 (with taxes, tip etc) for a cheap, oily massage, as I did. According to the menu we were handed, things that are normally included in massages - for example, targeting places of pain - are an extra cost "add on," which is absurd. The massage itself was terrible, we were soaked in oil afterwards and so was our clothing. Pants were ruined. This place is a total rip off. Be wary of anyplace that has many 5 star reviews from "new" yelpers who have never written reviews before. They have no actual details or info and may not be legit. P.S. The owner routinely harasses yelpers who write authentic reviews. (There is no rule that reviews have to be from this week. Nor are yelpers required to disclose the time and date of their visit. That's just creepy. The owner would be wise to heed constructive feedback rather than abusing reviewers.) Skip this place.

I try to support local businesses, and I hadn't heard of this one before, yet it popped up in a search and looked promising at a time when I thought I would try somewhere new, given the staff turnover at Laser Center of Marin. When I arrived, I was surprised to be the only client there. The owner mentioned she was a registered nurse, but there was no doctor on site, and she had to get approval via a video conference before proceeding. That already felt a bit unorthodox and uncomfortable. The actual procedure was, unfortunately, where things really went sideways. I'm someone who's been getting Botox or Dysport regularly for about 30 years--usually 1-3 times a year. In all that time, I've had one tiny bruise, at most the size smaller than a thumbtack, on my forehead after a treatment. After this treatment, I left with two noticeable bruises on my forehead--one of which ballooned into something nearly 20x larger than anything I'd ever experienced and was about half to one inch long. I contacted the clinic as soon as I got home. They recommended taking ingestible arnica, which I did diligently, several times a day, along with icing the area. The next morning, the bruising and swelling was worse. I've also asked twice for copies of the digital documents I signed as a new client, and despite giving them alternate email addresses, I've yet to receive anything. That lack of follow-through, combined with the strange approval process and unexpected physical trauma, left me deeply uncomfortable and has me concerned the person who administered the treatment was not certified or qualified to do so. I truly wish this had been a better experience. But based on what I encountered, I wouldn't return, and I can't in good faith recommend this business. I also believe regulatory oversight may be warranted--something about this setup didn't feel right, and I should never have ended up with this kind of damage to my face with an experienced practitioner.
