We went on a Monday 08/25 and we pulled up to a spot that I had been to a few weeks back that the NICE lady camp host let us stay in since there was NOBODY there and it wasn't reserved for that day or even the next. We paid 12 bucks and was able to stay and fish for a few hours. (Thank you nice lady camp host!)... Now the "other" camp host was just the opposite, he was already rude and angry when we go there. He demanded we leave the spot and said "I don't even want to hear it, move you truck!"m "Can you read the sign that says this is not a day area spot" He was yelling at my cousin and I so we were just trying to get back in the truck while he was still yelling. We just wanted to get out of there. I would not usually review a lake camp area, but this guy was ridiculously rude. He was a short older guy and his camp was a tiny trailer that looked home-mde to me. Anyways I hope the Government Park services see this because if makes the wrong person mad he would be a liablilty.

This year was no exception... However, we went to Lower Lake Mary this year and were shocked to see that there was no water there! We went to Upper Lake Mary instead (just another 5-10 min drive), and fortunately, there was water there... Not the biggest or cleanest lake, but it does the job. On a beautiful summer day, you'll likely see other people there enjoying the water on motor boats, kayaks, paddle boards, etc... It's worth a visit if you're in the area - just keep your expectations in check!

They are helpful in providing transport to and from the put in and you can leave your car for a $3 a day fee - which is much safer then leaving it at a put in spot. People here are very active so you see a lot of people walking their dogs on the trail of Lake Mary.

Still glowing from the experience, what a ride, what a ride ! 8 day moto raft trip was fantastic…read more Like many folks, I had looked down on the Grand Canyon from the rim, but this trip is full immersion! ... ha ha, sometimes literally ! GCW does a great job, providing camping gear, food, and the cool rafts. It is not "glamping", you gotta help unload the rafts, set up your camp etc, but all part of the experience. The trip leader (Rachel was super!) and guides are pretty great, working hard to make sure everyone is safe, well fed, and having a good time. Having a nice quiet Honda motor moves the rafts along, the 8 days was just right. We passed various oar trips that take longer and maybe have more cache, but looking at their faces, I think we were having a lot more fun! Going solo was interesting, met some nice folks, some goofballs, but all Good! Definitely recommend, gotta be a bit adventurous, but what a way to experience one of the natural wonders of the planet!

The two times we came here, everyone had a smile on their face and were not annoyed by our novice fishing questions. They've got an amazing selection of fishing gear (albeit at a slightly higher price than big box stores, but that's expected), and a large selection of snacks and beverages as well. We were initially drawn here because they sell water dogs (a juvenile salamander type of live fishing bait that seems to work well in Lake Mary), and were surprised to see that they had some. There was a little girl, I'm assuming the daughter of the woman who worked there, who was so cute AND knowledgeable when she took us out back to show us the water dogs. We ended up getting a half dozen water dogs for around $8 or so, a bait bucket, a pair of gloves (there was no way I was touching those suckers with my bare hands!), and 24 night crawler worms all for around $20. The cute little girl I mentioned before rang us up under the supervision of the woman, and then sent us on our way! The second time we came here was a few days later, when we decided to give fishing another try. We were there earlier in the morning, and a kind older gentleman was there to greet us. We decided to skip out on the water dogs this time, because the other day when we tried them they flew off our hooks within the first few casts. Needless to say, with this gentleman's information, we found out that we were hooking them on the wrong way, which explains it! But, we bought some worms, chicken liver and he even threw in some mackerel as well! He also gave us tips on how and where to catch the fish in Lake Mary. Although we didn't catch anything during our two day fishing trip adventure, we did meet some nice people along the road at the Lake Mary Country Store, and if we are in the area again, we are sure to be coming back!
