What a magical place Camp Avalon truly is!! My husband and I stayed here during a spiritual retreat with some friends, and it was everything we could have imagined. Our host, Hoss, was so funny and accommodating! The campgrounds are absolutely beautiful, with firepits and sectioned campsites, and even actively blooming vineyards. They also have restroom facilities on site, as well as porta potties. Hoss told us about a portal that was on the property, and we had an amazing experience there. Can't wait to return, this is definitely our campsite of choice from now on! read more

Beautiful campsite. I paid $50/night and got an amazing view. It's in the heart of Sedona so there's no need to drive 30 mins from cottonwood/cornville. The showers and bathrooms were very clean and there's WiFi available for $5. Super kind staff, and a beautiful waterfall next to oak creek. Will be returning to this campsite from here on out. read more

Great place to camp in Sedona! We liked it so much that we went back the next weekend. The Wi-Fi is available for a purchase and was great for both of us streaming movies and working during the day. There is several showers and the bathroom is clean and well maintained! Owners take great pride in the camp and frequently go around to see if anything is needed which was helpful for us beginner campers! A huge Plus this campsite has is it is right next to a stream where you can spend the day and jump in the water! read more

Camp Avalon is amazing!! This is our second time camping here in the past two years. The host's Haus and his wife are great. The facilites are the cleanest and most comfortable we have ever experienced as avid tent campers. The campground sites are first come first serve and are not your typical plot. They are unique and unconventional which gives a more natural vibe. This is a Spiritual Campground which lends itself to the wonders of Sedona. We love coming here to reconnect with nature and enjoy Sedona with our kids. It's family friendly and you meet nice people from all across the country. We met two separate families from San Diego during our last stay coincidentally enough. Can't say enough about this place. The views and little hiking areas are nice for the family. The most amazing thing is looking up around 3am to see the sky blanketed full of stars. Until next time!!! read more

Had to camp here last minute in September since every other camp site was fully booked. When we arrived we were greeted by Chase who was able to make some room for us. It was a great experience for my first time camping. I have zero complaints and only good things to say about this camp site. I highly recommend it. I look forward to coming back very soon. read more

This place is actually pretty cool! We were planning on staying in one of the state parks but they were all either closed or full. We happened to find this one and we were a little skeptical at first but it ended up being really great. It's spacious, quiet, and clean and the staff is very friendly. My one MINOR complaint is that one of the camp rules is all dogs have to be on a leash but the only dogs on a leash were mine i had to shoo away 5 dogs from my area and one of them (a border collie) took off with some of my food. Not all dogs are friendly so I was worried about a fight breaking out, one of the husky's was growling at my lab so I was a little worried there. If it's going to be a rule then I feel like it needs to be enforced. Other than that I had a GREAT time! I would definitely go back. read more

This campground is stunning! Well maintained, clean, spacious camp sites, nice bathrooms and friendly hosts. They offer yoga on the weekends which is a nice addition. It's about a 12 minute easy, beautiful drive into town. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a place to camp in the Sedona area. read more

Camp Avalon is a great great campground! We camp all the time and at Camp Avalon you have good campsite privacy, the free showers and bathroom are top of the line with excellent views and the close river access is wonderful! Steve and Chase were excellent camp hosts and the communication was excellent as well. Inexpensive WIFI access available but no cell service aside from texting which was interesting. If We return to Sedona - We'll be staying at Camp Avalon. read more

My husband and I arrived at this camp late at night and there was a sign that said "please text to notify of your arrival". We did not have prior reservations made and we were road tripping through Arizona with an RV and thought to make a stop for the night. We were greeted with such open arms and heart, the host was just an amazing human. He directed us down a path that had vacant camp areas and said that we can take care of fees in the morning. #nothingbutunconditionallove We woke up to a beautiful campsite, gorgeous view and sounds of birds chirping. Definitely a sweet spot and would 100% recommend solely on the humanity. read more

One of the most pleasant camping experiences I've ever had, and I say that with close to 40 years of camping under my belt. Now admittedly, we got very, very lucky with our timing (a few weeks before labor day, slow season) and were one of only 2 groups camping on the entire grounds, but still... just a really, really good example of how a campground should be run. The positives: - Relatively small campground, with plenty of space between all spots to still feel private - Super easy access to the river, plenty of swimming holes/areas to chose from - One of the cleanest/nicest bathroom and shower areas I've ever encountered while camping - WiFi! It was a couple of bucks a day, but totally worth it for us, and the signal was strong - Super, super friendly folks living there. Had many a nice conversation, got plenty of good advice regarding hikes/food etc., and was overall just a very good vibe. Plus the campground dog - meatball - is rad as hell - Wildlife! While camping there for 3 nights we saw Cardinals, Javelina pigs (we were told not to leave food out. We didn't, but still had a few little ones come by at night), and even an Owl that came within 20 yards of our site and just hung out at dusk - Close to town, but still very private The negatives: - Honestly... not much to say. I guess it's not as cheap as some other places. Still, totally worth the money. We absolutely loved Sedona in general, and Avalon played a big part in that. We will definitely be back! read more

This is such a great camping ground! My boyfriend and I spent Memorial Day weekend here for 2 nights and had an amazing time. All the campsites are within a 3-5 minute walk to the creek. The water in the creek was the perfect temperature for the weather and clean. You can walk up and down the creek to find your perfect spot. The volunteers at the camp site were very friendly and helpful. In addition, it was easy and convenient to go into town and other areas of Sedona. I definitely recommend this camp ground! Also, my dogs loved it. The photos are of the creek. read more

Camped here for one night and would definitely come back. Parts of the campground were under construction but that did not take away from its beauty. The gentleman who checked us in was very warm and welcoming. I was pleasantly surprised when he came around in the morning to make sure we had a good night :) Hospitality was 100% here. There is firewood available to purchase onsite for $5. read more

Great experience camping here, resting and healing here. Much like Sedona camp Avolan is magical and so are the beutiful souls that are drawn here on there journey. I really enjoyed my time here reconnecting with nature and meeting new people. Haus "who maintains and runs space " is super kind and down to earth. Helped me to feel welcome and great freind to share conversation and wisdom. Other people camping here were also so wonderful to meet and get to know. The space is quiet and peaceful, I loved how you are right at the creeks edge , jump right in and clear your aura I'll be sure to visit again, good times good memories read more

10.5.17 I finally received a response from Camp Avalon and I feel they were very sincere and apologetic about their worker. I did receive a refund and a personal letter from the owner along with an invite to return and give them a fair shake. We've all had bad days and I'd be a hypocrite if I said I'd never had a bad day or moment in my life or at work and people have given me second chances in life which I'm very appreciative and grateful for. So as I appreciate the offer to stay for free, I will decline as I am not looking for a freebie or handout. I just wanted a wrong action corrected and they have. As much as I was excited to stay here and experience with the family what I read about I want to support this place and pay for my future stay. I love the concept of the place and want to give them an unbiased review in the future. read more

Camp Avalon - Campgrounds Near Me - Sedona, Arizona

Checked out Camp Avalon in March, the weather was great the first week, and then we had some cooler temperatures but the great thing about Sedona is when it does rain clears up pretty quickly. I didn't realize there was an 18 acre retreat off of red rock loop just a few miles south of Sedona. It's a pretty casual place and there was plenty of room to park, And have plenty of space for camp without feeling cramped. I thought it was a great place, even though it's primitive camping, but that's the way I like it. Taking a swim in Oak Creek was very refreshing and the rope swing made it a little exciting. I think it's a lot better staying here than in a state run park, it's much more personable and It just felt much more chIll. I'd come back again and I think it's worth five. read more

The owner of this campsite is AWESOME! We had a couple of great conversations with him during our stay here. Apparently, there are people trying to shut them down! I SO hope this campsite sticks around. We camped here for only one night, and we will absolutely come back next time we're in Sedona! The campsite itself is quite large, with many good spots. The owner told us that, since it's first come, first serve for spots, that we should "reserve" the spot we wanted by putting some sort of marker in the spot. We did, and when we came back, our spot was free. Other campers were friendly and very quiet overnight. A great experience overall! read more

Absolute disaster! This a super scam. They only accept payment as "donation', in some creepy attempt to avoid any legal accountability and IRS audit. We were super excited to stay, so we planned and booked for 4 days and 3 nights. We immediately had life emergency and contacted the non responsive emails and unresponsive phone. It's a scam. We are filing bank fraud and making trip personally for in person refund with travel expenses. Total scam. Contacting sedona city hall. Being off the grid and shitting in the woods, doesn't mean you have to abandon all business ethics. Donations strategy with your presentation context online, I believe, gives me a chance to be heard in court. Smells like your flie filled crap boxes on this so called campsite. I'd rather shit in the woods without paying you... Gross. Pics available when we show up on site for our refund and environmental inspection. read more

Not a retreat, green lake water I hated it. Plan ahead and book elsewhere, it didn't feel like I was in Sedona

My friend and I stayed here for the past two nights and have been pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed it. We initially were very skeptical of the spiritual nature of the campground, as we didn't want anything pushed on us during our stay, but am happy to report that we didn't hear about anything other than the camping amenities! I'm sure if you are interested, you'd be able to get plenty of information, but it seems that most people were only there for the campground. Everyone we talked to, including Haus and Peter (the only employees we saw) and other campers, were extremely friendly and helpful. They lent us supplies, helped us split wood into kindling, and were friendly and chatty. The campsite has water and sells firewood, and the spots are big enough for your car to pull right up to your campsite. There were also lots of friendly dogs to enjoy. It's nice and quiet as it is off the highway and about 10 minutes from downtown Sedona, and the lack of light pollution meant beautiful stargazing at night. The construction noise was extremely minimal, even though we were right next to it, and the portapotties were some of the cleanest I've used. I think my least favorite aspect of the camp was how little grass and how much of the powdery reddish dirt there was. Be prepared to get that dirt absolutely everywhere. That being said, I would rather feel safe, welcomed, and relaxed than have more grass, so it was a very minimal inconvenience for me. Also be sure to bring your bathing suit and towel! There is a creek nearby with a rope swing that was very fun. Overall, a really great place to camp. I'll definitely be back! read more

Spent a couple amazing nights here and loved it!! Would definitely go back again! The creek was amazing and beautiful, everything was clean and nice, everyone was so incredibly kind, there's a vortex on the grounds, and the location is perfect to get to lots of what Sedona has to offer!!! Can't wait to go back to this magical place again soon! There is construction going on that will make this place even more epic! read more

I arrived at Camp Avalon expecting to stay about two weeks. Instead, I spent the winter, and after 4 1/2 months, will be leaving in a day or two. It is a rustic camp. If full hookup and cable tv are important to you, this is not the place. The management is working on making water more accessible, and small but noticeable improvements are happening all the time. But it is primitive, and that's part of the charm. Very much an antidote for anybody suffering from high-tech/high-stress overload. It is a beautiful camp. Several sites on the creek, lots of shade (though a significant part of the camp is sunny all day, if that's what you want), creek side is a great place to take morning coffee. Javalenas and deer wander through the camp, at night you can hear the coyotes songs. Nice sunsets. It is a friendly, diverse camp. Families with small children, college kids on break, young couples on extended weekend, travelers from all over the world. Everybody's having a good time. You really should spend more time in the Sedona area than you're planning. There's so much to do, and yet you can completely get away. You don't have to spend four months here, but a couple extra days would do you some good. read more

I love camping and I love Sedona, so Camp Avalon seemed like a good blend of the two.. but I'm not entirely sure I'd come back to this site again. When I think of camping, I picture a semi-secluded site that at the bare minimum has some degree of privacy and nature. However, Camp Avalon felt more like someone's giant backyard -it was essentially a manicured field of grass.. which is perfectly nice, but wasn't really the vibe I'd expected. Plus, at $30/night I'd expect clean facilities.. but the bathroom situation was pretty terrible. I ended up limiting my water consumption just to avoid having to go back into the Port-a-Potty (which looked and smelled like it had been there for a while). For the actual camping I would probably give this place 3/5 just because it felt more like the kind of "camping" you might do as a kid in your own backyard. I gave this place 4/5 tho just because of the workers -we arrived super late, and didn't have any cell service. However, we happened to luck out that one of the staff members was checking for us and met us at the gate. He helped set us up in the dark, gave us firewood, and even let us pay for everything the next morning so we wouldn't have to dig around for our wallets! I wish I'd gotten his name, but he was an awesome representative!! All in all.. I'm not entirely sure what I was looking for, but I guess I'd hoped for more of a natural experience. From looking at the pictures tho, maybe there are better sites at the Camp? read more

This hands down the best campground in Sedona area - Not crowded and amazing location! So happy about this new spot, I guess it's just about a year old. It's actually the only campground in Sedona proper. THe place use to be an organic farm like 15 or 20 years ago - cool old structures on the property to - What an amazing thing to camp right on Oak Creek - You are out in nature, and also just a 15 min drive into town. It's a beautiful campground - The host was very kind and helpful and professional. I have stayed there twice and the campground seems to attract other really cool campers and adventure seekers. No big RVS! yay! A safe place to bring the family - Dozens of trials very close by - Only a mile or 2 from Red Rock State Park and just about a 5-minute drive to Red Rock Crossing. Super legit red rock views and a great vibe there! The land felt sacred and I appreciated the intention to set a retreat feel and not a typical campground where people party. read more

Surrounded by houses with No Trespassing signs everywhere. Not welcoming AT ALL. Very grunge like place. They advertise as Donations only, but absolutely charge you a fee as all public campgrounds do. A lot of noise and smoke, very tight space. Zero amenities. Creek access is small and kind of nasty. Not at all as pictured. Do NOT recommend. read more

Found this place on Google coming back from Grand Canyons. Saw that there is creekside camping and I was sold. Upon arrival at 5 pm, I asked to pay for one night non creekside and two night creekside. I paid $105 for just myself. $40 each night to camp beside the creek and 25 for general area. A bit much I thought, but hey, it's creekside. By afternoon, I decided to not stay two nights by the creek and asked the morning host for a refund for the second night and for a bundle of firewood and to take it out of the 40. Hours later, the same host that checked me in came back with firewood and gave me back $30. I said "I thought it was $5" and he replied "I thought you may need more." First, I never asked for a double bundle. I received 7 logs. Wal-mart sells 6 logs for 5 bucks and its just me camping alone...I even registered alone but, I was clearly overcharged regardless even by a total of 10 bucks, but you have to consider the amount of times or people this has been pulled on. It wasnt until I finally had service in Cottonwood to check their website on fees. I'm so disappointed. It was a nice and quiet place, but I was so bothered by this, I couldn't sit in peace. I also did not know no alcohol is permitted here. I would not camp here again. read more

The camp hosts were very helpful with finding us a campsite when we showed up late on a busy Saturday night. Stayed 4 nights there and were very happy with the facilities. Be mindful about the javelinas in the area, don't leave food or trash out, must check out the river and walk the down trail and continue to until you find a special place to relax along the river. Many thanks to Camp Avalon for hosting us during our stay in Sedona. read more

The place is absolutely gorgeous! However, the website says that they are family friendly but I did not feel that to be true. We went with three families and six children. We were told that we were too loud even though I assured him we would respect the quiet hours. Keeping kids quiet at 7:00pm, when they are so excited to explore nature, is not what we had in mind. If you have kids that want to be kids, I would not recommend this camping site. If you have adults that want to hang out and socialize at night, I wouldn't recommend this place. If you want a quiet evening by yourself or with a significant other, this may be the place for you. read more

I spent three nights sleeping by the creek at this beautiful camp site. I've been hiking and camping for five years now, have traveled to national parks all over the US and internationally. It was here at Camp Avalon that I felt the deepest connection to nature - to the earth, the plants, the animals, the insects, the river, the stars, the flowers... it's difficult to put into words. There is magic everywhere if you look for it. I'm back home in Rhode Island now and just beginning to unpack the energy of this incredible place. I know I'll be back. read more

Super simple, no frills spot to pitch your tent and sleep for the night. It was like the hostel of camp spots. Host Peter was super nice, offered to help if we needed. We were planning on a late check-in (11:30pm) and emailed the campsite a week before. They reply that that's no problem and we should text the camp supervisor the day of. We text him and he replies with a pretty sassy/aggressive text. We arrive there late at 12 (we let them know around 10) and the person does not answer his texts at all so we are forced to find whatever little spot we can find. The sites aren't delineated so it becomes very difficult to find it ourselves, especially in the dark. We finally find a patch of grass and set up our tent there. At 1am a car starts blaring music at full volume. This goes on for 20 mins. No action from anybody. Then the driver of the car proceeds with its nervous breakdown and starts driving in circles for a few minutes and still no response from the campground staff. Pretty crappy time, overall. read more

This campground should not be advertised as a campsite but as a backyard. On the website, quiet hours were listed from 10pm to 6 am. We had arrived to the campsite at 8:15am and started unloading our gear. Later on, the camp leader, David accused us of waking our neighbors up by slamming our cars doors at 8:15 am. Ironically, our neighbors were already awake and packing up their car for the day. My group and I felt discriminated by David for our age and ethnicity. We felt uneasy because David would always come by our site to check on us. Later on that day, I had apologized to David for our "rude entrance." He responded by saying that my group was not as bad as those Mexicans on the other side of the campground. He went on to specifically point out the family and their children. It saddens me to know that people like David exist and are proud to announce their racism. DO NOT come here, you can experience Sedona's beauty at a different location with kind people. Ps. I saw David make a false review for this campsite. Can this place get any sadder. read more

Camp hosts were very accommodating. Great location. Very quiet campground, just what we were looking for.

We had a reservation, upon arrival we found out they had given our reservation to someone else. Very disorganized staff with bad communication. Regardless, we would have left. Besides the creekside site this campground is overpriced and frankly not very nice. We ended up camping in a forest service site for a fraction of the cost and it was much more private, cleaner, and had more amenities. I would not recommend this place unless you had no other options. read more

We had a great stay at Camp Avalon at the private creekside camp-site, which was beautiful and amazing. We stayed two days at this campsite and had a blast! First thing when you get there you see a sign the says to text the host , but it was hard to get cellphone service so we had to drive back out just a tad. He texted back right away and recommended a couple spots but said we could choose any open one, there were a lot! We ended up getting site 2 (I wanted 16 because it was under the trees by a time stream, but not as easy to get the gear to as 2.) Site 2 was nice but not very level, so we moved to the site up a little hill between the sets of port-o-potties - site 50 I believe! It was perfect at night being able to see all of the stars and listen to the coyotes and javelinas! Would not suggest this site if you will be at your tent all day! The host was excellent, and it was a peaceful place to stay! $30 a night for two people with cash - or $35 for with debit/credit card! Nice water well in the middle of the grounds and the creek was cool too! See pictures! read more
