We went on a Monday 08/25 and we pulled up to a spot that I had been to a few weeks back that the NICE lady camp host let us stay in since there was NOBODY there and it wasn't reserved for that day or even the next. We paid 12 bucks and was able to stay and fish for a few hours. (Thank you nice lady camp host!)... Now the "other" camp host was just the opposite, he was already rude and angry when we go there. He demanded we leave the spot and said "I don't even want to hear it, move you truck!"m "Can you read the sign that says this is not a day area spot" He was yelling at my cousin and I so we were just trying to get back in the truck while he was still yelling. We just wanted to get out of there. I would not usually review a lake camp area, but this guy was ridiculously rude. He was a short older guy and his camp was a tiny trailer that looked home-mde to me. Anyways I hope the Government Park services see this because if makes the wrong person mad he would be a liablilty.

This year was no exception... However, we went to Lower Lake Mary this year and were shocked to see that there was no water there! We went to Upper Lake Mary instead (just another 5-10 min drive), and fortunately, there was water there... Not the biggest or cleanest lake, but it does the job. On a beautiful summer day, you'll likely see other people there enjoying the water on motor boats, kayaks, paddle boards, etc... It's worth a visit if you're in the area - just keep your expectations in check!

People here are very active so you see a lot of people walking their dogs on the trail of Lake Mary.

They accommodate our gluten free and vegetarian needs excellently. The equipment was well organized and reliable. They are helpful in providing transport to and from the put in and you can leave your car for a $3 a day fee - which is much safer then leaving it at a put in spot. They have 2 trails connected to the campsite. One that is .5miles goes under the road to the lake, and one that is 1mile and goes up the mountain for the lake views. The campsite director did mention there are ravens so you do need to hide your food if you're going to be away. There were some ants, my dog did get bit up by some sort of bugs on her stomach. The campsite was $30 for the night + $10 for an extra car. I highly recommend this place! It was so peaceful

Campground - the Campground is very clean and kept up very well. The sites were spacious and the shade was perfect. Vaulted toilet - this has to be the cleanest vaulted toilet I have ever seen. They had bags of ice and wood for sale on site which is very convenient. No showers on site bit a short ~2 mile drive to next Campground, there are showers for $3. Then the grand…read morestate of AZ welcomes you to Coconino County, where you can spend a few days in true Azerionan wilderness. Forget about those pesky cacti and the annoying Palo Verde trees. Coconino County is one of the few places where you can see multitudes of real trees, fresh waters,and gape in awe at non-domesticated flora and fauna. Potato Lake is located just a little ways away from Coconino County, Az. at Latitude: 35.0545 and Longitude: -111.4027 at an elevation of only 7073 ft. be sure to stock up on supplies before heading out because there is no stores where you'll be heading! To get there just take the 87 north out of Phoenix pass Strawberry, take a right on Rim Rd or Forest Service Rd 613.You will see signs at that point to the lake when you are about 15 minutes away. First of all, the drive to get to the lake was is long as the history of fungi. But also much more exciting. Once you get more into the wilderness, you are going to see a lot more trees and animals, the air will be fresher and there will be little to no phone signal. It is important to keep an eye out while you are driving, watch out for animals that want to run out in front of your car. And be sure to really watch the dirt road, as sometimes the path will be obscured by fallen branches and/ or decomposing plant/animal matter so it's not a great idea to up it during or after any rainfall. Now besides all that you can see a great number of scenic views on the way, usually of the beautiful free-roaming wildlife. After climbing up the mountain for a good 45 minutes or so, you'll eventually reach the top of The mountain. On it is the still waters of Potato Lake, I am unsure of the fishing regulations there. but there are frogs and fish that survive within the cold water. There is also a cave nearby, and a small hill and rocky area beyond that to exploreas well. Remember to set up camp and stick together, relax and enjoy the peaceful solitude and Fresh air at Potato Lake!

It's quiet and rules are enforced, which makes it a safe and comfortable place to stay. The campsites are fairly large and spread out and paths can be found to a nearby lake. There are stone picnic tables and fire pits. Roads are paved and great for kids to play in large forest trees and pine needle grounds. Will look forward to staying as much as possible. Especially the RN's who work Labor & Delivery) The campground was covered in snow (February) and so I cannot comment about the showers/restrooms/laundromat, etc. as these services are not available in the winter. However, this just means more available spaces to park or camp (they have sites for tents, Campers, big 5th wheels with slide-outs and huge motor coaches they have new 50amp sites for with easy pull in access! Sites are big enough and signage is good. The one thing I would suggest is during the summer, they need to somehow mark the driving pathways so they can easily be distinguished from campsites when snowfall covers the ground. We accidentally drove thru some tent sites getting to our reserved 30amp space in the very back of the campground. No harm done - but my sweet hubby who was driving in was getting quite grumpy how awkward it was to park - only to later realize that if we would have followed the roadway, it would've made a lot more sense and been so much easier! Once we parked, Water and Electric hook ups were quite easy, and each site had a picnic table with plenty of room for parking we even had room at our site for an extra car to park. We thought we would only be there a couple of nights, but due to complications with the birth we ended up having to stay more nights and even asked for a late checkout, and both needs were met by office staff with such kindness and understanding. By the way, definitely make some time to shop around the store. Besides supporting your local community businesses, they have some excellent products for a VERY tasty charcuterie board, light lunch and snacks to take back to your campsite or pack up to go on a hike! My last comment is about marking your GPS coordinates if you are on any site at the back (closest to the brick wall) where the new 50amp and 30amp sites are. Apple Maps, Google Maps & Waze will all mark correct GPS coordinates, however, when you switch to an address, it will tell you that you are on the next street over as if you are one of the apartments on the other side, of the brick wall. In fact, even the sites across from our not up against the brick wall, still show an address using the street name "Pico Del Monte Circle" on the other side of the brick wall where the apartments are located. This is pretty important if you are using your location finder to give somebody else directions to where you are or using apps like Instacart or DoorDash. I did use DoorDash while we were there and the driver had to call and I had to explain how to get into the campground.. this has nothing to do with Woody Mountain Campground and everything to do with the map situation. I did report it to Apple and Google. Hopefully it will get fixed but as of today, i see that has not been fixed. (may 2026)

We stopped in for the Fall Festival where they had country swing dancing lessons, live music, wine and mead tasting, hot cider and chocolate, baked goods, a cute gift shop, and so much more! Cute back patio area and inside area where you can enjoy a beer, glass of wine, or some food. Gift shop had some awesome gift items, some a little pricey, but the Route 66 bar towel was the same price as it was on Amazon and the glasses were cheaper! So we had some fun, and I scored a gift for a friend! They have hosted summer events, so they are trying to host some fall and winter events, something that Flagstaff needs! Definitely returning for some winter fun!!
