Monk's Home Improvements

This was the second time I've used Monk's for painting projects at my home in Morris Plains, and…read moreonce again I was extremely happy with the results. The first project, several years ago, involved painting multiple interior rooms and crown molding. Most recently, I hired them to paint three new structural porch columns and my front door. While that may sound like a straightforward job, it really wasn't. Black structural columns are not something you see every day, so preparation, product selection, and attention to detail were critical to getting the look I wanted and ensuring the finish would hold up to the elements. Bob came out to provide the estimate. He was professional, easy to work with, and, most importantly, took the time to listen to what I was trying to achieve and the concerns I had about the project. He was also able to get the work scheduled within the same week. I worked closely with Ron, who I believe was the lead painter on the job. He was incredibly knowledgeable and detail-oriented. I supplied the INSL-X primer recommended for fiberglass columns and discussed paint options with him. He agreed with the approach and helped ensure the project was done the right way rather than just the fastest way. The work took two full days and exceeded my expectations. The crew took great care to protect my brand-new porch, covering the decking and railings thoroughly so there was no risk of paint getting where it didn't belong. What really stood out was the follow-up. Both Bob and Ron checked in independently after the work was completed to make sure I was satisfied. They also made it clear that if any issues came up, they would come back and make it right. The pricing was fair, the workmanship was excellent, and the customer service was outstanding from start to finish. It's refreshing to work with a company that still takes pride in doing quality work and standing behind it. I plan to use Monk's again next year for additional interior painting projects and would not hesitate to recommend them.

Review long overdue - I used Monk's to perform an incredible amount of work on my house before I…read moremoved in. They refinished and stained the floors, redid all the paint throughout the house (inside and out), replaced all the windows so that they actually open and close, let's see... there was more, but it's been so long! I haven't had to retouch anything in many years, and I am now consulting with them for more improvements. Very professional and open, honest, and looking to help you find your balance of value and quality. They are my first choice to come back to any time I have work to do - I note they don't do _everything_ I'm looking for (they'll redo my deck but not the walkway leading to it?), but for what they do, I trust them 100%.

I also wanted to do some of the work, since I had the time and enjoyed performing home improvement. It also helped reduce the overall cost. Skydell was very flexible with this approach and we decided for the full remodel. Henry, the project manager, was good in communicating the work and the schedule. He worked through some unexpected obstacles (relocating a vent, additional support for shower) to ensure the job was completed in a very professional manner. I am very pleased with the final outcome and it has increased the value of the home.

The prices were similar and I got the sense that Skydell would be easiest to work with. I made the right choice! My kitchen was renovated within a week of the anticipated time frame and they did a beautiful job, but what impressed me most was the way they handled the complications that inevitably arise when doing a big project. They are very professional and respectful and put the costumer first. My contractor was a pleasure to work with and showed up to complete the job after I had made my final payment. and to do a free repair several months later. I will be using Skydell again when I'm ready to renovate my bathrooms.

I have used them for years for different projects around my house like rechaulking my bathtub,…read morereplacing a kitchen sink faucet and also a light switch. Every employee that has shown up has been very professional and have done good work and I have been very happy with the quality of their work. They are a little pricey but not too crazy plus the work has always been very so at the end of the day it's worth it. I would recommend them anytime

I hired Mr. Handyman for several minor household repairs, including replacing a bathroom sink…read morehandle, installing gutter guards, repairing a small section of siding, and realigning a few closet doors. Unfortunately, the quality of the work was disappointing. The siding was tacked into place but left unsealed, potentially allowing water to penetrate. The bathroom faucet work resulted in a leaking sink, deep gouges in the vanity around both faucets, and metal shavings scattered throughout the bathroom--a particularly concerning issue in a bathroom used by my children. Mr. Handyman offered a $250 refund and agreed to correct the workmanship issues. Although the repairs were eventually completed, they subsequently changed the refund offer to store credit only. Since the experience left me unwilling to use their services again, store credit was not an acceptable resolution. I also left voicemail and text messages in an attempt to resolve the matter, but received no response. That lack of communication ultimately prompted me to share my experience here. Beyond the cost and quality of the original work, the necessary repairs and remediation required me to take four days off from work to address the problems. The additional time, inconvenience, and disruption to my family's routine further compounded an already frustrating experience. My dissatisfaction is not simply about the original workmanship issues, but also about the additional burden of correcting those issues and the change in the company's proposed resolution. I believe these factors should be taken into account when evaluating the overall experience and the appropriateness of the company's response. I would not recommend Mr. Handyman and will not be using their services again.
