I went in to have the female short haired blond dentist check a crown that has been feeling sensitive when I bite down on it. I was seated in a room quickly but then had to wait forever until she finally came in the room. I told her what I was there for she and said I needed new X-rays, so they did that and I was sitting there waiting again. Finally she came back and just started filing down my crown to adjust it. I literally pushed their hands away because I was in pain and had tears rolling down my face. She then asked if I wanted her to numb it, which I thought would've been obvious from the beginning, I said yes so she gave me that and I had to wait 10 minutes for it to take effect. 10 minutes passed and I had to ask how much longer she would be. I was told she was coming. She didn't come for another 10 minutes. When she finally walked by and heard me asking again when she was coming. She stood at the door and said "what's the problem?" That set me off and I complained about her having me wait so long and just walking back and forth and I asked her why she didn't numb me in the first place knowing my tooth was hurting and she said that it wasn't obvious to her that she would have to. I was politely greeted and filled out all intake information with the 2 front desk girls. They were professional and kind. I then met with hygienist Hazel who took her time cleaning my teeth, was very gentle and afterwards had a brief consult with me about flossing more to avoid plaque build up. The other hygienist Gloria was very welcoming and kind as well. Dr. Jacob entered the room and was extremely friendly and bubbling with a great sense of humor. He consulted with me about the enamel stains I've had on my two front teeth since a child. This is the first time a dentist has suggested an alternative to invasive porcelain veneers. For years, I've met with different providers and there has not been a solution. He discussed a mild Icon polish treatment and was happy to review what my insurance covers. Basically a good dentist and salesman. No problems here. The problem, and it is a big one for me, is his business practices. He quoted a price for his services and then, without any mention exacted significantly more for a "consultation" after the work was done. In this case, tripling the price. Specifically, I visited his office for a cleaning and imaging and was quoted a $ 225 fee. While I was there I asked about tooth pain. He looked at adjacent teeth, never mentioning charges. Upon leaving, I was billed $610 for "Consultation". Some may feel this is fair. No discussion permitted; just my problem. You be the judge. Imaging, which was included with the cleaning must be read by a doctor. So a cleaning must include some consultation. No explanation offered. Just pay up. If a patient feels so bamboozled, eh - robbed - that he is posting in every Internet forum and telling every Rockville Centre resident he knows, Dr. Hasday has failed him. Dr. Hasday might review his billing practices. An otherwise fine practitioner should not be leaving his patients feeling they were dealing with a lier and were ripped off.

A few issues were identified that needed attention, but they were presented as nothing drastic. I was advised to make another appointment to take care of some of the work that did not require prior insurance approval. When I returned, however, the recommendation seemed completely different from what I had been told during my first visit. Once I was in the chair, I was given the impression that my teeth were in very poor condition and that significant work needed to be done right away. I felt there was a lot of pressure to proceed, and different costs and figures were being discussed quickly in a way that I found difficult to follow. Because the assessment seemed so different from my initial visit, I was uncomfortable moving forward with any treatment and decided to leave and seek a second opinion. My wife had a similar experience. She was given what sounded like a very serious prognosis, but after obtaining a second opinion, she was told that her situation was not as severe as it had initially been presented to her. I am now getting a second opinion for myself before having any work done. Based solely on our personal experiences, I would recommend being cautious and considering a second opinion before agreeing to extensive dental work. My biggest concern is the inconsistency between the recommendations we initially received and what was presented at the follow-up visits.
