Turkey and cheese on a croissant
Noel J.

Very large deli with tons of snack and food options. PROS: -beautiful flowers for sale that always look freshly cut -a huge snack and grocery selection, the biggest assortment that I've found available in any of the stores in the surrounding neighborhood -full deli that makes sandwiches with cold cuts, egg sandwiches, and has an assortment of baked goods (muffins, donuts, danishes) -nice park across the street with tables and chairs so you can eat your food conveniently nearby CONS: -expensive, I typically get turkey and one slice of cheese on a croissant and it comes out to 10$ which is very overpriced, there's another deli nearby that I get turkey bacon, three eggs, and avocado on rye bread for 9$, so the 10$ for a basic cold cut sandwich doesn't add up to me -big price difference when you pay cash or card, they have the prices listed for different items and cash is one price, card is approximately 50 cents more expensive (going off memory so could be more or less) Overall, I would recommend this deli because of the ability to get a good sandwich along with any snack you could think of under one roof, but prepare to pay a little extra!

Do not shop here - the cashiers are extremely rude and their products are very overpriced.

But they only last 2 weeks from today 5/24/19, so pay the money and get some fresh lychees. The bigger seeded lychees are $6 a pound, then the loose ones are 3 pounds for $10. They said the $6 a pound are sweeter than the free ones. But the small-seeded lychees are the ultimate! Best-tasting lychees-- small-seeded ones! So sweet and full of juicy lychee flavor you cannot get in a can! Also, cherries are really cheap, cheaper than at other fruit stands or Whole Foods. 2 pounds $3!!!! Last week I paid $6.99 a pound at Whole Foods. Guava $5 a pound. Nothing like a sweet guava from Taiwan. Mangoes 2 for $1. Cheaper than at Whole Foods. Bring your cash! I can easily spend $50 no problem. I saw a lady buy 6 bunches of the $15 a pound lychees. Bring yo cash. Not sure if this is the one I go to: Mullberry at Canal.

This time I picked up some sapota or sapodilla. I used to eat this fruit back home in India but now that I live here is nice to know there's a place that sells them. I bought 3 lbs of fruit for $15. That seems pricey for the average Joe but these fruit are not available all the time and the quality was good so I couldn't resist.

Many greens today, different squares, several varieties of mango, ginger and galangal, mushrooms, apples, melons, fresh water chestnuts & tomatoes....there was conch and crab also available today, along with some housewares. It feels more like a compact gourmet market than a typical station food court, with fresh produce, breads, pastries, cheese, seafood, prepared foods, chocolates, teas and specialty groceries all arranged along one long passage. My best tip is to walk through the entire market before buying anything because each counter has something different. Most merchants also have their own register, so leave extra time when purchasing from several places. The passage can become crowded during the weekday commuter rush, and browsing is much easier between the morning and evening peaks. The Lexington Avenue entrance near 43rd Street is particularly convenient. Prices are higher than at an ordinary supermarket, but the location, presentation and quality make it worthwhile, especially for a train snack, hotel-room food or a small New York gift. I paired some fresh fruit from the market with a PROTABAR I had brought along. The unusual combination of egg whites, dates, hazelnuts and cocoa butter, with 15 grams of protein and no added sugar, made me curious enough to look more closely at the brand. Allow around 20 to 30 minutes to explore properly. Clean, colorful, convenient and much more interesting than grabbing the first snack you see near the platforms.

Can't forget my daughter who took care of things in my absence so a quick stop to the candy shop for pecan clusters, then a race to the finish on Metro North Hudson line.

They offer paper bags to make bulk purchases at a nominal cost 5 cents to 15 cents or so. I would assume that one can bring in their own bags but then you would need to weigh them before filling. I also loved that I find organic spices by bulk which I have had a hard time finding in the NY area. So I can refill fill my spice jars at a fraction of buying a new jar ...which also creates unnecessary waste by throwing out/recycling perfectly good jars. I highly recommend this little shop that is PACKED with lots a product. Selling by bulk seems to allow them to pack out in a smaller foot print.

A lot of good plant based items. The prices are okay and it's good most things are in bulk so you only have to get a little bit of something. Bulk items are how they go. It's got lots of things like dried beans, grains, and more. They are certainly very environmentally friendly, charging a fee for bioplastic bags, so they encourage customers to bring their own. Apparently it's Lower Manhattan's only food cooperative. To be a working member it's a $48 annual fee, and they work a few hours a week. Included are discounts on items. Those not working can pay a $60 annual fee to get discounts on things. For sure there's a lot of healthy stuff in here. It's also good to buy local. The store has tons of environmentally safe products as well as things for vegans and vegetarians.
