We prefer the river sites personally for the views & fishing. The campground owners are fantastic people who've become friends. They live on site and take great pride in the property. The property is always impeccable. They are always working. Such a gorgeous place!! The pond is in the center of the property - yes you can fish (catch & release). Areas setup with hammocks, corn hole, seating, etc. The new playground has been a big hit! Oh, and there's also a dog park area. The bathhouses are super clean and have air conditioning. The laundry room is brand new with great units and also A/C. They incorporated additional activities this year over at the pavilion which our family has loved! Bingo, tie-dye t-shirts, food trucks, live music, and more! Our grandson loves to join us. Lots of kids and a great area for them to all play. Tubing the river is always a fun treat! You can bring your own tubes or rent from the campground. The camp store has expanded and features a great mix of items - t-shirts, hats, hoodies, koozies, and more. As well as local jams, rubs, and other treats. They're in the process of building a new office/camp store so we're excited to see this complete. We have a 40' fifth wheel. No problems every getting in. They accommodate all size rigs. All sites have a concrete pad, fire pit and very nice large picnic table. Sites are spacious and do not feel cramped like we've experienced at other campgrounds. Wi-Fi is generally pretty good. We've been able to work remote on some of our trips. We even had phone service our last trip (AT&T)! Lots to do in the area! Hiking, Linville Winery (yum!), Linville Caverns, Grandfather Mtn and so many other great places. The office staff can certainly provide plenty of recommendations, too. There are 2 grocery stores in town about 15min away. There's also a local dollar store about 5min away. We cannot say enough good things about MRFC. We've met some great campers there who we now call friends. We truly love this place and already have bookings for next year!

The Linneys stone grind corn meal, corn bread mix, grits, and they sell my favorite: buckwheat pancake mix. This is an authenic, operating water mill, and depending on when you visit, you can see the entire process, from the water wheel driven grind stone to the packaging and selling of the finished products. The Linney's campground adjoins the mill with campsites by the creek. Visiting the mill is like stepping way back in time. No credit cards accepted, and no cell phone signal here. These are good people, and this is an authentic experience.

Winter was in incredible time to visit, easy parking, a chance to chat with the staff at the visitor center, and walk around. The lake is beautiful. I've heard that this area did get some hurricane/ storm damage but everything needed to drive around is up and running! Make a plan to visit next time you're nearby. This park had an impressive visitor center and restrooms were open even after it closed, though neighboring water fountains were not functioning on a hot summer day. Cell service was not great for me, and while I'd hoped to do a zoom meeting on the run I had to return to more urban areas. But if you actually want to get unplugged, the people on boats here appeared to be having a good time.

The web site was not updated from 2021 each time I accessed it in the past 6 months so I could not use it to obtain a reservation. It told me to call 'the station' number provided. I did this monthly and was assured that the web site would open in October sometime. Today, 8 October, I called the station again and they said that I must obtain reservations through the web site. Guess what? The website now says that all RV sites are taken. I've wasted a bunch of time on this.

I have been coming consistently for over 10 years to This campground for Merlefest. I am aware of some that had items taken in 2017. I do know that fire dept was very concerned about this. A vehicle that was stolen came into the campground (not a camper) and took some items. But I feel this could have happened at any campground. Overall I would say this campground is very safe. As for jamming after the shows, and during I am surprised at the comment of few pickers. I heard music everywhere and am a musician myself. Many people gather in the barn (normally used for the fire trucks) to pick. But there were many groups around the open field around the campfires. Wood for campfires is provided for free. There is a quiet camping area on the hill where music is not played at night. Perhaps this is why it seemed there were few pickers. You can view many jam sessions that took place at night in the barn on the U Tube channel. The campground also has food venders and sells it's own shirts, hats, etc. Several of the partnership and breakdown volunteers camp here because it is one of the very few (if indeed there are any others) campgrounds were visitors can come early few days before fest and stay a few days after.
